About John Lauro

After visiting Greenville, ME for 3 days, I put money down on a home! The North Woods area TRULY embraces the meaning behind Maine's slogan, 'Maine, the way life should be!'. I have enjoyed both the area and the people of this town for 14 years and counting. My kids have gown up vacationing here, and I hope their kids will enjoy it someday as well. Being from Philadelphia, PA this cabin is the PERFECT retreat to get away from it all!

John Lauro purchased this cabin in 2000

Why John Lauro chose Moosehead Lake

This is a comfortable, fully equipped house, secluded, private, and yet 5.5 miles from activities downtown. Relax by a fire outside and enjoy the night air and millions of stars in the sky, or sit comfortably inside by a wood stove fire, play games, watch satellite TV, or just have good conversations with family and friends. Morning coffee on the large front porch on a nice day makes it all worth it!

What makes this cabin unique

Once I saw the winter night sky for the first time, I knew I was home! I am not a star gazer, nor versed in astronomy, but the first time I saw the constellation Orion, and could view the ENTIRE archer profile, I knew this place was something special. I will also never forget one morning sitting on the front porch, drinking my coffee, when a bull moose came walking down the driveway, stopped, and stared at me for a good 4-5 minutes. We were just being good neighbors and enjoying the morning sun!

My husband and I stayed 3 nights. We found the cabin very accommodating. Be sure to get specific directions cuz gps not quite accurate. John was quick to respond to our questions. Cabin was as described and comfortable. Bring bug spray for when outdoors.

Beautifully Secluded Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This property is an absolute dream for anyone looking to get away from it all. There's not a single house within a quarter mile of the cabin and there are a near endless number of trails within walking distance of the cabin.

The listing description was on point and the cabin itself was quaint and rustic while at the same time incredibly spacious, even for 8 people. It had all the basic amenities and the porch is perfect for grilling and enjoying the fresh air, even if it's raining. On top of that, the property was very clean when we got there.

Mr. Lauro was great in providing us with all the information we needed, was always available for a phone call, and responded very quickly to my messages.

We spent our entire weekend in the general vicinity of the property and still never took the same trail twice. Being so far away from everything made the night sky unbelievable. The number of visible stars will make any city-dweller rethink his life choices.

The only two points of advice I have are that:

1) Mud Season (March-April) is very real and strongly reduces the number of activities you can do in the vicinity of the house

2) The road leading to the property is a windy dirt road with one or two steep inclines, which makes getting stuck a real possibility, especially for small cars and when it's been raining.

Overall, it's an awesome place. I would definitely recommend it to others, and I myself will definitely be renting this cabin again.

Owner's Response: I'm very happy that you enjoyed the place for everything that I enjoy about it too. The night skies are what kept me coming back, as well as the privacy and peacefulness that the area provides. I hope to see you again when you make your way back to the Greenville area for another vacation! Thanks!

Very clean, nice comfortable cabin.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great experience. The cabin was neatly kept. Only a small snowmobile ride down a plowed road to the trail. Trails were decent for a bad year of snow. The owner was very nice and answered all my questions. He was fast to respond to my emails and phone calls. The cabin had enough room for us and was not a far ride into town. Plenty of room in the driveway for our 3 trucks and trailers. Nice peaceful spot in the woods! I would recommend this to any friends going up to Greenville!
