About Ron Arnold
A retired school principal and his teacher wife-and-former-sweetheart spent the last 8 years renovating this 1832 office building built by Samuel Cunard, the founder of Cunard Steamship Lines. Before that we worked in schools in three provinces, one territory and two countries.
Ron Arnold purchased this Apartment in 2004
Why Ron Arnold chose Pictou
One side of my family descended from Ship Hector settlers. We were looking for a retirement project in the Maritimes and this building needed some work, was located on the harbour and was empty. Kind of a no brainer!
What makes this Apartment unique
Cunardhouse is a piece of classic Maritime architecture and turned out to be a piece of history as well. Looking onto the harbour on the second floor are three crooked windows that make it stand out in all the old photos of the waterfront. They present a unique 'face' and we think we know their story.
Plenty of room for children to run around inside.

Restored older building with everything you might need. A few steps from the water, a good restaurant and two nice museums. The owner was friendly and informative.
Quiet and comfortable
The property was nicely furnished with everything one would need and it felt just like home. It was so nice to be within walking distance of restaurants, shops and museums. Pictou is a charming little town with so much history!
No Blues Here
My husband, myself and our dog had a very enjoyable stay in Pictou. The caption describing the Arnold's "Inn" as a perfect base for chilling or exploring the area is on target. The local scene was comfortable and offered many interesting activities and tasty hospitality options. The ferry to PEI is nearby and the drive to Cape Breton doable in a day if you leave early.
In addition, Ron was the perfect concierge. What more could you expect? With cooperative weather our stay was perfect!
What a great place to stay and explore!
Cunard House was so much more than we expected. Our home was so well supplied and roomy! We were comfortable, with all interior amenities and within walking distance to the whole town. Across the street from the waterfront... just blocks from out door cocerts, walk to restaurants. If all our VBRO experiences were like this, we would need no other vehicle for booking! Thank you to our lovely host and hostess!!!😘🐕🐕
Thanks Penny. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and we certainly enjoyed having you here.
Great place to stay for a couple or up to four people in a beautifully renovated historic home. Very large space with high feelings. So much nicer than a motel room. Big kitchen great to prepare a few of your own meals. Enjoyed a few local restaurants as well within walking distance. Very quick drive to the ferry dock if you want to check out Pictou Island or the bigger one, PEI. Great internet reception. Very reasonable cost for this spot. Great host.
Clean and comfortable
Overall great place to stay has all amenities you would need. Friendly owner upstairs ready to help if needed. Building has interesting story and located close to everything. The house is clean and well furnished. Would stay again if in the area.
Many Thanks Darren. We are glad you enjoyed your stay.
