About the property

Awesome Year-Round Getaway and Sunset Views Over the Sakonnet!

Lovely, high end home available for weekend getaways, holiday weeks, New England summers, and cozy fall and winter excursions. We just recently completed a complete renovation to the highest standards. Panoramic westerly water views and Sunsets over the Sakonnet River from the master bed balcony. Great artwork, funky antiques, granite/stainless kitchen, claw foot tub, two custom baths, two gas fireplaces, antique pine floors, vintage radiators, and cool custom/vintage materials give this cottage a clean, contemporary and interesting feel.

The best feature is an amazing 30 x 15 Master suite with a fireplace, king size bed, private bath, and french doors to a private balcony overlooking the Sakonnet. Lower level is smallish, with a 20 x 12 fireplaced kitchen/living area, a bedroom with bunk bed, a third sitting room with daybeds, and another full bath. There's a front porch, vintage cobblestone patio, and a fantastic hot/cold mahogany outdoor shower.

Its not a party house, its a tasteful little cottage, ok for entertaining in the summer but smallish for winter indoor dinners for more than 4 adults. I think the house is a perfect romantic weekend getaway, or great retreat for a couple or young family.

Little Compton is a charming seaside New England town featuring stone walls, farm stands, fresh seafood, and sandy beaches. Here's what the Providence Journal had to say in July of 2013: 'What the state’s historical commission wrote in a survey report about the town in 1986 remains true today: “Isolated and remote, Little Compton has been relatively free from the political pressures or economic forces that have transformed much of the rest of Rhode Island into a dense, urban and suburban metropolis.”

“The town’s resistance to change — at first a result of its isolation, later due to deliberate decisions — has preserved a remarkable legacy,” the report added. “... Little Compton presents an idyllic picture, complete with rolling topography, a quiltwork pattern of stone-wall-bounded farms and woodland, complemented by marshes, saltwater ponds, barrier beaches, a rocky promontory at Sakonnet Point, old farm complexes, comfortable summer houses, winding roads, and tree-lined villages.”

Newport is appx 30 minutes away, Providence or Boston an hour or so. Walk to the beach at the end of our street, or a short drive to numerous other beaches, nature trails, the town commons, Sakonnet Vineyards, Christmas tree farms, artists studios and antique shops.

Includes: Linens, towels, cookware, a couple of televisions with blu ray players, loads of dvds, blu rays, and books; wireless internet; coffee maker, nespresso machine. Bring your suitcase, bike, kayak, or running shoes and you should be fine!

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

House is fully stocked with all you need to cook and lounge. Just a 2 minute downhill stroll to beach access. Waking up in the master bed to views of the sun rising over the ocean was priceless. Owner was available by phone for questions, which was essential, especially when we had a question 30 minutes before check out time. Highly recommended for anyone looking to do a romantic getaway or leisure trip with friends.

Beauty, Tranquility and Inspiration Abound

  • 5 of 5

As soon as we drove down the hill, facing the vast sky and river, we knew we found the perfect place to "unplug" ... and finally take a few, much needed days to replenish. The moment we walked up the stairs being greeted by a porch swing and a "buoy bell" we felt at home. Every detail in this cottage was carefully thought about ... from vintage tin like ceilings, to reclaimed wood flooring, to cozy spaces to read, create, and reflect, to a kitchen that welcomed coffee and the preparation of feasts ... to a master bedroom suite that was luxurious, and blended vintage and contemporary artistry. Steve's vision for the renovation of the "Little Compton Cottage" showed attention to detail and comfort, respect for the architectural elements of the period the cottage was built, and a passion for creating an intimate space that invites inspiration, relaxation and reflection. We walked along the beach (which was just a stone's throw from the door of the cottage) as the snow was falling ... cooked many meals ... read books ... sipped hot cocoa under a blanket on the porch swing ... and basked in the fiery sunsets and glow of a bright moon which was visible from every room and window. Steve was responsive, kind and attentive throughout the entire process. Danielle was thoughtful and thorough in making sure we had all the information we needed to prepare for our stay. We didn't want to leave and will definitely return to make the Little Compton Cottage a place for our family to call a "borrowed" second home ... something to work towards. We felt gratitude in having had the opportunity to stay at the cottage!

Where do you live?

Elegant, comfortable getaway with beautiful views!

  • 5 of 5

This is not your sandy around the edges beach cottage, but a gorgeous renovation with the amenities of a luxury hotel. Having stayed in many charming but dusty beach cottages, we really appreciated: great beds, gas fireplaces, plush towels, bathroom amenties (no need to bring that half empty shampoo bottle!), and a vast choice of outdoor seating to enjoy the wonderful views. My requirements are always a view and a walkable beach, and even in November we were blessed with perfect weather to enjoy our twice daily walks down to the local beach. The neighborhood is quiet and charming. Little Compton is more than we had hoped, last days of the local farm stands, long walks on South Shore beach which is quite altered after the recent storm, and a spectacular sunset dinner at the Boat House in Tiverton.

We felt there was no better place to be on Friday afternoon, with appetizers on the upstairs deck, and a stroll down the beach with champagne glasses in hand. The owner and his associate were amazingly responsive, kind, and efficient. We recommend this without hesitation!

Quintessential, charming cottage. Killer view; comfortable beyond words.

Perfect house while we were in Little Compton for a weekend wedding. Central location. Exquisitely, but comfortably, decorated. Slept like a baby in the master suite. Spa-like bathroom. Owner very attentive to every detail to make our stay enjoyable and easy.

Enjoyable stay

  • 4 of 5

The little Compton cottage was just an enjoyable stay! Upon entry, the 1st floor is both funky and charming, with references to its proximity to the water, and modern touches of fur throws and artwork. The modern kitchen with great appliances (loved the griddle burner on the stove) made food preparation a breeze. My only wish for it was more cookware...therefore only 4 stars. Otherwise, both bathrooms, with ample shower space, and the shower upstairs with its jets and rainfall shower head was wonderful. The skylights in the bathroom were also a nice added touch. Sitting out on the deck you could even hear ocean waves! The neighborhood is quiet and just a quick walk to the water makes you feel like your at the ocean. The view of Newport and the lighthouse is quite nice on the shore. Other amenities such as the fireplaces we did not utilize due to the warm weather, but they were nice touches, and the interesting artwork everywhere was thoughtful and appealing to the eye. I wish I could give 4.5 stars, because the cookware was a minor issue in this case, but if I had planned to cook more, there were limited pots but there was a large cookpot and griddle, not a complaint, just a suggestion. But we definately plan a return trip to Little Compton Cottage in the near future

About Steve Rodio

I'm a lawyer practicing in a small firm in Rhode Island, a life long resident of the smallest state, and Rhode Island's biggest fan! I love it here, from the fascinating and eclectic downcity Providence, to historic Newport with its summer 'cottages' fit for kings and queens, to the quintessential New England seaside town Little Compton.

Steve Rodio purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Steve Rodio chose Little Compton

I purchased this home to rehab and put on the market, but the more time I spent in Little Compton the harder it was to part with this house! My kids and I love going there, its the most relaxing place int he world - and one of the prettiest!

What makes this cottage unique

Think New England seaside communities and Little Compton is the point of reference. Stone walls, farmers markets, roadside stands with amazing fresh vegetables, the freshest seafood, a town commons with white steeple church and historic cemetery, gorgeous beaches, and wide open vistas of green grass and blue sea. Summer, fall or winter, Little Compton's charm and beauty remain the same.

Little Compton is a quaint New England coastal community, regarded for both its natural beauty and its exclusiveness. Visit the Town Commons with its white steeple church and colonial cemetery, enjoy one of the many area beaches, take a tour of Sakonnet Vineyards, get fresh local produce at one of the many farm stands or the Saturday Farmer's market, go antiquing, walk the nature trails, or simply stroll to the end of our street for a dip in the Sakonnet. If you enjoy running, rollerblading or bicycling, you will fall in love with the town's beautiful roads and trails. If the Kayak is more your style, you will be amazed at Narragansett Bay! Dinning choices nearby are plentiful, especially in Bristol (15 minute drive), which boasts some of RI's most creative and delicious kitchens. Of course, Newport is always fun for a night out or a day of touring the mansions.
