Overview

About the property

Two bedroom, one full bath, sleeps up to six over 8 years old

Sharing Gates by the Sea -

Walk about 60 yards, around the corner, to the warmest beaches in Santa Cruz, including Sunny Cove and Santa Maria beaches. Play in the sand, boogie board, wander a long stretch of beach, explore the tide pools, and enjoy the sunset. Walk to nearby restaurants. The cottage is located halfway between the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, and Capitola Village (two scenic miles each way).

The little beach house...Sharing Gates by the Sea...was once a part of the Victorian resort, the Hotel Villa del Mar, now a retreat center on 19th Avenue. Built in the 1890s, the 580 square foot cottage has personality and charm. The peaked redwood-paneled ceiling makes the living room feel spacious. The cottage sleeps six over eight years old.. There is a queen bed in the bedroom, and a full-size sofa bed in the living room. The private, sun porch room has a double sofa bed, and is used as a small, second bedroom. The cozy garden surrounding the house is fully fenced.

Sharing gates

  • 4 of 5

As usual, the stay at sharing gates was wonderful, the small cottage is perfect for me and my wife. The access to everything in the area is very easy. Jeanne was a very accommodating host, as usual. We will return next year.

Quaint, cozy, and convenient!

  • 4 of 5

It was wonderful being close to walking the beach and great walk areas! Really enjoyed being close to the mall, The Point, and laundry facilities. The Point and Crows Nest has great happy hour food specials, and Karaoke at Santa Cruz bowling alley were great! Parking was such a relief where we stayed. The owner was great at updating essentials as needed. Unfortunately the rain and cool weather were more than expected, although the heaters were great! I now believe their rainy season is definitely in December and January! I would love to return in the dryer months for sure!

Quaint cabin near the ocean

  • 4 of 5

This was a nice little cabin. Walking distance to the ocean, and starbucks. Not a luxury stay but perfect for a family with small children.

A real gem by the ocean

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a place by the ocean to have some quiet time and this sweet little cottage was perfect. Though the street out in front can be busy during the day, the fenced yard makes it feel very private and you can’t really hear traffic noise inside the house. The neighborhood itself felt very quiet. I rented a car, but hardly drove it. There is a Starbucks a block away and almost everything you need is within walking distance. Early morning and evening sunset at the beach (right around the corner) are spectacular. This place is ideal for a single guest or a couple and is stocked with everything you need. The owner is very responsive to any questions or concerns. The cottage was very clean and well stocked with linens and towels. It has a very Santa Cruz beachy feel. It is not fancy or modern, but feels so homey and comfortable. I stayed for a week and was very sad to leave. I already want to come back. This place is a real find and much more reasonably priced than almost any place else that I saw in this location.
