A charming well appointed house in a beautiful location. The house has a large fenced backyard with BBQ, fire pit, and seating. In the back, you can walk up a sand berm to a breathtaking view of the water. There are plenty of beach accessories provided: beach chairs, boogie boards, children's sand toys. The location is a brief walk to the beach or a 2 minute drive to the public beach, pool, golf, tennis, and restaurant.

I found the place by accident escaping hurricane Irma, but Pat (the owner) could not have been kinder or more accommodating. Our pets were at home and relaxed at the house. They also enjoyed the dog friendly beach. It was all a wonderful surprise.

I plan on coming back for a family reunion next year.

Great home for family and dog.

  • 4 of 5

DI is a very quiet and subdued location. Great location for families with children. It’s not the party place like Gulf Shores. A handful of tasty seafood restaurants, locally owned. No fast food! The house is roomy and great for a pet. Loved the enclosed sunroom. Tons of pine cones and needles to enjoy burning in the fire pit. We took an extendable baby gate to shut off the opening to the carport and our pup was safe and secure inside the fenced back yard. The long 500+ yard walk across the dunes to the water is pretty, but after seeing signs about the local ordinance against walking thru the dunes, we were uncertain if we should. There are plenty of public beach areas to enjoy the sand and water, though. The house is central to either side of the island, but nothing is too far away! The house could use a few repairs, but nothing that prevented a lovely relaxing vacation.

Nostalgic Island Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My family and I just returned from Dauphin Island and are already planning a return trip. The island is superb. It is very laid back and reminds me of stepping back in time. It does not have all of the commotion of some of the other gulf towns and feel much less crowded. I love how you can bike anywhere on the island. 'Sunset Dunes' is a great vacation rental from my experience. It is well kept and clean with several beds for larger families. The location was central in the island making it an easy distance to all of the beaches. And of course, there are the dunes directly behind the house. The neighborhood also had several amenities such as pool, tennis courts, playground, and skate park all with in a short walk.

Perfect getaway for our nature loving family

  • 5 of 5

Where do I begin? This was our first trip to Dauphin Island, and it far exceeded our expectations. Originally from Florida, we are not fans of busy, touristy spots. The dunes, beaches, and marshes of DI provided unlimited entertainment for our 4 kids to explore and discover. Sunset Dunes was an ideal rental, with it’s prime location, ample room and sleeping spots, yard for fires and playing, and well equipped kitchen. We bought seafood from Skinner’s and had boils at home; explored the Audubon sanctuary on two days (unbelievable birding, beautiful beach, and sea shell hunting); checked out the Estuarium to pet sting rays and horseshoe crabs; walked miles and miles exploring the shoreline behind the house. If you’re looking for a rental to accommodate an active, adventurous family, this one’s for you. If you’re looking to relax, walk, and enjoy dune sunsets, this one’s for you! We will be back. Thank you Pat!

Great home away from home

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I came the week of Spring Break with our daughter and her husband and their five children and two dogs. We had plenty of room. The house was comfortable and easy to access the beach . We had a little hiccup while we were there and the owner Pat worked hard to help us solve it. The water behind the house was kinda a hike to get there but perfect for the younger kiddos. Rode our bikes all over the island exploring. Overall had a great week
