About David and Holly Nielsen

We are enthusiastic travellers, who have been in this neighborhood for nearly 20 years. We have been in the hospitality business ever since we transformed this home into "Artist's Bed and Breakfast". Since then, we have expanded "The Artist's World" to include two vacation rental apartments in Southern France (HomeAway 979853 and 4274763) and another in Tucson, Arizona. Our goal is to offer high quality family friendly vacation rentals.

The place was fabulous. Everything that was advertised was there. Very comfortable for all 9 of us!

The property is in the southwest by canyon meadows and McLeod trail. We went to fish creek park to walk and run a few times. My daughters wedding was at the bow river ranche restaurant. So the location was great. Pretty much a 20 minute drive to everywhere else whether it was downtown or other areas. The airport was about 25 minutes via Deerfoot trail. Lots of shopping both grocery or mall in the area. Communication with the owners was easy and thorough. The place was very well organized. Great property. Great experience. Highly recommend!!!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Albert! The Artist's Home specializes in hosting families that come to Calgary for family reunions or weddings. The Artist's Home is unique because of the amount of people it can sleep (10), and the amount of quality bathrooms it has (4.5). But what really makes it special is that you are in a well designed, stylish home. The photos do not lie. Infact, we have already booked two weeks for summer 2018, so it is never too late to start planning for your Great Canadian getaway.

Welcoming, beautiful top to bottom and well thoughtout VRBO.

Thank you Holly and David for sharing your beautiful home with our family. A wedding in the south of Calgary at Lake Bonavista "Lake House" was the beginning of our search for the perfect home to accommodate 6 adults, 2 teenagers and 1 child. The "Artists Home" suited our needs perfectly.

It was close to our venue as well as a short walk to Fish Creek Park with running trails, for picnics or just enjoying the creek. Transit for a hassle free trip into the city is convenient and a short distance away.

The home itself is beautifully designed. It is cozy in the setup and big enough to handle a larger family with areas to accommodate quiet reading or a little more exuberant family visiting. The kitchen has a full complement for the gourmet chef in you and one can choose between eating in the dining room or at the bar. Bedrooms/ensuites, bathrooms are set up with nice linens, towels and lots of storage. For your appreciation and enjoyment, the "Artists Home" has an abundance of artwork in all areas and certainly was enjoyed by our families.

Outside sitting areas were plentiful and whether its the sun you like or a piece of shade under a tree you're seeking - you're sure to find it.

This home is a definite thumbs up for us.

Beautifully located to access all of what Calgary, Alberta has to offer, very clean and maintained

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful home to enjoy with high end amenities to make our stay joyful and comfortable. Everything we needed for quality family time from furnishings to quiet and beautiful spaces for private conversations and group interactions/gatherings. Grand art that gives you the sense of appreciation being in a unique environment while having access to wonderful gardens and private outdoors space. The location was so easily accessible from all modes of transportation and made travel to various venues we were visiting a pleasure.

Perfect location, comfortable, spacious, well-equipped accommodation.

  • 5 of 5

The Artists House is deceptively large with several sitting areas which allows everyone their own space if they need it. It is very nicely furnished and decorated. It has ample bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate up to 10 people easily and the kitchen was well-equipped with everything we could need - and more! The outside areas are very well laid out with well-kept gardens and garden furniture. Although we had little opportunity to enjoy them during our visit due to unseasonable weather!! The neighbours were friendly and helpful and happy to pass the time of day - without being intrusive. The property is perfectly situated within easy travelling distance of Banff National Park and Lake Louise. Sikome Lake is lovely if you fancy a beach and a swim - spotlessly clean and well maintained and only $7 for the day. The local Heritage Centre was well worth a visit, much more to see than we expected. There are a few restaurants within walking distance, but driving around this area is very easy and simple to navigate anyway. I have to recommend Big T's Bbq a short drive away - so good we went there twice! We were visiting Calgary due to one of our party competing in the Roller Derby World Cup - otherwise I honestly don't think we would have thought of Calgary as a holiday destination. We were pleasantly surprised with how much this area has to offer and would love to visit again. Our only regret was not being able to visit Jasper, due to insufficient time. We would definitely visit this area again and wouldn't hesitate to stay in the Artists House a second time.

Ideal Home for Family or Large Group

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I booked the Artist's Home along with four other couples for the Calgary Stampede. This home is well furnished, and very clean. Several living areas inside and out offer lovely places to gather for visiting. The Nielsens provided prompt and detailed instructions for the use of the home and its amenities as well as good advice regarding restaurants, activities, and shopping. They thoughtfully left a welcome package with a kind note on the counter-- maps, broshures listing restaurants, activities, and attractions, three new kitchen towels, and a lovely bottle of Chianti.

We enjoyed being able to cook a full breakfast each morning before departing for the rodeo. There is a grill, but we did not have the opportunity to use it since our Canadian friends treated us to a BBQ, and our other meals were taken at Stampede. Located in a quiet residential neighborhood, the house is convenient to lovely walking trails, restaurants, pharmacies, and the Chinook Center as well as other shopping. One of our Canadian chums was so taken with the home that she wants to rent it for the overflow guests for her daughter's wedding. I highly recommend this home for a vacation stay in Calgary, but be warned, you will not want to leave. Many thanks to the Nielsens for sharing their home with us. Cheers!
