My family passed down for 5 generations
Watching the sunset, views of NY City skline, watching the boats go by, people are friendly, great waterfront restaurants.
I would highly recommend this property for your next NJ shore vacation. My husband and I did not want to leave. Sitting on the deck watching the boats go by was tremendously relaxing. I woke several times early enough to see the beautiful sunrise over the bridge. The cottage was immaculate and everything was supplied, except food of course. There are many superb restraunts that you can walk to if you don't want to cook. The beaches are just a stone throw away over the bridge. We will definitely be back next year. Thank you so very much Larry.
We got a last-minute rental in a similar two-bedroom until and we couldn't have been happier. We were right on the bay/river, mere steps from a tiny beach where our 17-month-old and 5-year-old could play in the sand without fear of crowds, huge winds or waves. At the same time, we could walk over the bridge to the ocean side, which was great on the near-90 degree-days. Everything Highlands has to offer is within walking distance, including the 40-minute ferry to Manhattan. Our kids loved it! The back porch was perfect for my husband and I to enjoy once the kids were in bed. Larry was the consummate host, letting us borrow fishing gear and even offering to take us on a boat ride to Sandy Hook. His family has been in Highlands for many years, and he knows all about its history. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return next year.
We had a great week in the Highlands at this cute, laid-back rental that offered us great views of the river on our private deck, wonderful nearby restaurants and a speedy drive over the bridge to Sandy Hook. The Colby family has lived in the community for generations, and Larry has built a really nice little compound where you will have absolutely everything you need to relax, unwind and enjoy some peace and quiet.
Larry gave us great restaurant reservations and he was always available if there was any problem (which there wasn't). The rental's location is great because it is very close to everything you need, yet set off to the side a little so you don't have to deal with noise or traffic. Also, the rental is as close as you can get to Sandy Hook, which is a National Park and is practically undeveloped and undisturbed...within an easy 10-minute drive we were sunning on the low-key, pristine beaches that are the antithesis of what the Jersey Shore is usually all about during the summer.
If you need to add a little excitement, though, you are a 25-minute drive to Asbury Park, which is always hopping. We also took the high-speed ferry to Manhattan, so in about 45 minutes we were in the center of it all for a fun daytrip. All in all, I think the best positive review is repeat business, and I am ALREADY thinking about next summer and our week in this lovely, affordable rental.
We found the cottage to be charmingly decorated and clean. The owner Larry was friendly, attentive to his guests and a pleasure to deal with. It’s a great location and a beautiful water view. You can do as much or as little as you like. We could walk to restaurants, shops and over the bridge to Sandy Hook beach. We spent many afternoons just sitting on the deck, working on our laptops while watching the sea birds and boats in the cool breeze. The town people were all helpful, pleasant and friendly. We will definitely be returning in the future.
The cottage was inviting, clean and cozy. The outside terrace and grill made for relaxed dining. Breakfast on the terrace started the day in a peaceful manner watching boats and birds on the river. Minutes from Sandy Hook National Park made it convenient for going to the beach. We could walk to Bahr's for dinner. The owner, Larry was personable, helpful and a pleasure to work with.
