A-Frame on the Water at Historic Sickman's Mill

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

Minimum Stay
2 - 3 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

Enjoy a relaxing stay at our A-Frame house located at Sickman's Mill. You will have access to the creek and campground for campfires (fire ring and firewood provided), fishing, creek swimming, kayaking, canoeing (equipment not provided) or enjoy a relaxing tube ride down the Pequea Creek from our on-site tubing business ($8 per person Memorial Day - Labor Day).

Our guests often see great blue herons, minks, hawks and the occasional bald eagle. History lovers will enjoy the view of our 4 story stone grist mill. We typically allow our guests to explore the inside of the mill to see our ongoing restoration effort.

Since we only let scouts and church groups camp, there are usually no campers, so you typically get the whole place to yourself!

Memorial Day through Labor Day there are tubers on-site during the day but they are typically gone by around 6:00 PM leaving a quiet, peaceful setting. This time can vary depending on the creek water levels; lower levels equal a longer float time.

Take a left out of our drive way and the Frogtown Cafe is two minutes away, a country pub that is family friendly. A right out of our drive way will take you to the Conestoga Wagon restaurant where they have great food, convenience store and gas station.

We are 20-30 minute drive, (through country back roads) to Rockvale Square Outlets, Sight and Sound Theater, and Dutch Wonderland. Hershey Park is about 1 hour away. Philadelphia 1.5 hours. Gettysburg 2 hours

No parties allowed, anyone throwing a party on the premises will be asked to leave. Any additional day or night guests must have prior approval.

Cable TV and wireless internet included.

Two large decks allow you to enjoy the view of the campground, historic grist mill and the Pequea creek.

For even more pictures and information see our website.

The first floor contains a large rec room containing a queen sleeper sofa and futon, a separate bedroom with queen size bed and TV, large laundry room, and a full bath (shower).

The second floor contains a living room with TV VCR and DVD, kitchen, full bath (tub and shower), and bedroom containing a twin bed and a full/twin bunk bed.

Was a great New Year's surprise to visit this wonderful home with my family. Very comfortable rooms, fully stock kitchen, and the loft deck was my favorite spot in the house. Even the surprise of snow made our last day great. My daughter can't wait to return. (Me either)

Our family got together over the holidays. We had a wonderful time. The weather cooperated enough to explore the area. What a gem! It is soooo quiet and hidden away, yet, less than 15 minutes to downtown Lancaster! We also looked around Lancaster County and visited many of the attractions! Wonderful time! Met the owners doing some updates on the buildings. We received a guided tour of the mill. What history in such a grand setting!

Great home and great owners

  • 5 of 5

This is the 3rd year we have stayed in this awesome home. The owners couldn't be nicer or more accommodating.

The house has everything you need. Kitchen is fully stocked. Plenty of fresh towels. BBQ on the deck. Games for the kids. Very clean bathrooms. Nice washer n dryer.

We love it and look forward to coming back next year.

Loved our Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed this A frame house. When we first pulled in we were very skeptical because we saw how busy the tubing business was, and the house was right along the road. They really didn't bother us and we had the evenings to enjoy the outdoors without customers. The road was not real busy either so that did not bother us either. We as a family already voted that we likes this home so much we hope to return sometime!

Thanks for providing families with at place to get away from it all! The Patches Family

A Great Family Escape

  • 5 of 5

A Review From a Mom & Dad w/ Young Kids - We stayed here with 4 young children (Ages 6,4,2 & 3months) along with my 70 year old grandmother. I'll write this review from that perspective.

This is a great location for families to stay. The house has many nice amenities but doesn't feel like a Pier 1 Imports store in which I'd be on edge about the kids breaking something. The layout of the house allowed for Grandma to have the entire lower level (living room, bathroom, bedroom, porch) to herself while the upper main level had lots of space for the kids to spread out and for Mom and Dad to have the upper loft area in which we could plan out the next day without waking the kids. It was a nice addition to have Lincoln logs, a train set, games and kids dvd's. This provided us with great "transition tools" (i.e. while cooking breakfast or getting everyone ready for bed / baths). The kitchen was well stocked with all your basic utensils and a grill is outside on the deck.

Yes, the stairs are steep (as with most A-Frame Houses) but the door to the main level top of the stairs has a level latch and the bottom to the loft can be easily blocked off to calm any worries. Some other reviewers commented on feeling crowded with the tubing business on location, but we felt rather at home and enjoyed our stay. Most of the time we were on the road before the tubing business opened and it closed most days around dinner time. As far as the tubing experience itself..... take the time to take the family on the tubing trip. We took our 6 and 4 year old and it's what they remember most from the trip. The tubes have bottoms and with life jackets on the kids there wasn't any worries. It was a blast. There's also a ton of space outside for the kids to runaround and explore. With water-shoes or sandals, playing in the creek was a big hit as well. (Grandma joined us by sitting outside on the picnic tables and chairs).

This home is a great family escape and while we experienced it as a family, it also has some romantic charm. The fireplace, various porches, writing desk and loft area would make this a great place to celebrate an anniversary or enjoy some time away as a couple. We'd consider returning here on future visits to the Lancaster area.

Would come again

  • 5 of 5

This was a family vacation and everything was just as it was described. Since we did most of the eating at the house, the kitchen was well equipped. There were games for the family and movies. We had a great time and would definitely rent again.

Thank you for sharing your home with us.

You will have access to the campground and Pequea creek for fishing, kayaking or canoeing (bring your own equipment, canoes, kayaks) or enjoy a relaxing tube ride down the Pequea creek with our on-site tubing business ($8 per person). History lovers will enjoy the view of the historic grist mill located on the property.
