Nice place but buyer beware

  • 2 of 5

The house suited our needs when staying in Indy for our son's wedding and the owner was relatively responsive to our questions. Buyer beware though in regard to the contract.....if you do NOT strip the beds and put one load of laundry in the washer as stated in the contract, you will be charged $100 which in our opinion is highway robbery. I would love to make $100 when I strip my own beds and do laundry. It's excessive and unfair. Even though the contract refers to stripping the beds, etc., there is not a "Closing" checklist of things to complete before leaving the house which would be nice. It was a task that we overlooked because we didn't have the contract on us and we didn't do it on purpose. The other thing we found concerning was finding a pair of men's underwear under a chair in the livingroom. A good housecleaning would have found them which evidently wasn't done before we arrived.

Owner's Response: Each guest is emailed the list of things to do twice, once when first confirming the reservation and the second when giving the entry instructions. There is always a hard copy on the kitchen counter in a three-ring binder for reference. This guest never contacted about anything problems or questions until part of the Security Deposit was not returned. Yes, $100 is a lot, but this is what the housekeeper team charges me if they have to return to a home for a second time as they have almost an hour one-way travel time. I'm sorry this happened, but the list is always there in hard copy, and no complaint was mentioned by text, email or phone until I had to withhold part of the Security Deposit.

*Performing Arts:

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra has its home in the Hilbert Circle Theater, a vintage 1916 film palace on Monument Circle. Clowes Memorial Hall, a performing arts center on the campus of Butler University, is home to the Indianapolis Opera, Butler Ballet, and Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. The professional Indiana Repertory Theatre, offers a September-to-May season, including classics such as A Christmas Carol. We have been to some great concerts at the Murat Shrine.

*Nightlife:

For live jazz every night except Sunday, head to the cozy Chatterbox Tavern, where big-name acts playing in town sometimes stop by. (Mick Jagger once dropped in after a Stones concert.) Another downtown top spot for live music is the Slippery Noodle Inn, Indiana's oldest standing bar (established 1850; rumor has it that Hoosier hoodlum John Dillinger used the club's back wall for target practice) and the place in the city for blues.
