Despite four flights of stairs, the flat was clean and cheerful. John met us and showed us everything we needed to know. We have stayed in many VRBO's all over the world , and this one was among the most well-appointed. Excellent for two adults, but the three of us were quite comfortable.
Good experience but the property had its drawbacks dirty, old hallway carpeting. Noise from the adjacent playground until nightfall .
Poor bathroom ventilation.
Wanting to be away from the crush of NYC, yet still be right in the middle of it, we found a great apartment in Chelsea. Quiet, as quiet as NY can be, and a great location to get around Manhattan. We walked everywhere - uptown, downtown, east, west...
John was a gracious host, meeting us upon arrival and showing us everything we would need during our stay, even complimentary wine and beer. The 1 bedroom apartment was perfect for my husband and I. Even the four flights of walk up became part of our daily exercise.
We were less than a ten minute walk to Chelsea Market and many wonderful restaurants and galleries.
I would highly recommend this apartment and thank John for his generosity.
We stayed 5 nights in the apartment in September. We were met by the owner, John, who showed us around the clean, well equipped and tastefully furnished apartment. He was very thoughtful, and even offered to add channels to the cable package so that we could catch the US Open tennis. The location was great with access to many lower and mid town Manhattan sites by walking, citibike or subway. There were many restaurants and bars in less then a few minutes walk. We especially enjoyed early morning runs and evening strolls on the Highline. The views of the Empire State building from the bedroom were a bonus! We would definitely recommend this property to family or friend who didn't mind 4 flights of stairs. If taking an airport shuttle consider getting on/off at the Dream downtown hotel just 1 block away.
We really enjoyed our stay. John is a very caring and responsive host. The property is clean and comfortable (filled with beautiful objects de art!). Great views and really nice neighborhood. We loved the adjacent parks - this is a real neighborhood. It is very close to the High Line and the Chelsea Market. Also the subway is just around the corner.
Sometimes at the end of the day the hike up the stairs was exhausting but that is fully disclosed! Also, it is great exercise!
We had the pleasure of staying in this Chelsea walk-up apartment. It is very nice, just like in the pictures. It was clean, and everything worked well. The decor is very nice. John, the owner, met us there when we arrived, and showed us the ropes. He also kindly left some nice gifts, some wine, sparking water, fresh cupcakes, and other snacks. He left his number, and was just a call away if we needed anything. It is just a block to the subway system, and is also very close to the High Line park and lots of shops and restaurants. It's "living in the neighborhood" with the residents, and we enjoyed that. John was flexible when we asked for a later check-out. The building and neighborhood felt safe. You must be comfortable climbing 5 flights of stairs - if that's a problem, then this probably isn't your place. The hallway carpeting isn't new, but is clean, and the residents we met were very friendly. If stairs are okay for you, and you want to experience staying in a popular Manhattan neighborhood with excellent walking nearby, you should check out this apartment.
