About Ron & Andrea Gilles

The Lake house has been in our family since 2003 allowing both of our children to enjoy the summers on the lake. It's been a favorite getaway for my wife and I on the weekends during the winter months to enjoy the peacefulness of the lake. Also a favorite place for our family to enjoy the Holidays - Thanksgiving & Christmas - the more snow the better! One Christmas our son Brendon snowboarded off the roof of the garage, we had so much snow! Our main home is in Sequim, WA just 45 minutes away so it is a quick getaway. I personally enjoy the Hot Tub at night under the amazing stars that out on a clear night or in the morning with a cup of coffee at while gazing at snow line on Mt. Storm King on the South side of the lake. Lake Sutherland from our deck has been described by a friend as 'just like being on Lake Como in Italy'! The Lake house is on the Sunny Side of the Lake, so it's very enjoyable year round.

Ron & Andrea Gilles purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Ron & Andrea Gilles chose Olympic Peninsula

Family memories and my Father-in-law wanted his grand kids to expierence growing up on a lake. Because he grew up on Lake Washington in Seattle. Personal Birthday parties with live bands down at the Maple Grove community docks.

What makes this cabin unique

Swimming at midnight under the stars, waterskiing, fishing, powerboating and wine & cheese boat cruising, hiking on the Spruce Railroad Trail at Lake Crescent or Marymere Falls. Enjoying a faboulous hamburger at the Lake Crescent Lodge.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great location. Good times.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time on the lake and hiking Mt Olympic National Park. The lake house is an excellent choice for both. Many of the homes on the water have a long hike down to the shore and stairs. Not this one. Convenient and accessible. Kayaking the lake was a group favorite (seven in our party with plenty of room). My son caught a fish off the dock. Eagles sightings daily. One eagle tried his luck at fishing as well though his dive came up empty taloned. The house has neighbors on either side and the landscaping provides good privacy. The hedge row was in full bloom during our stay and a fragrant welcoming we first arrived. We went hiking almost every day and the best spots are equidistant. Good location. Great time.

Great house in a beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 5 enjoyed a few fabulous days in this lovely vacation home on Lake Sutherland. The house is spacious, well-maintained, and boasts exceptional views of the lake and mountains. We had a blast enjoying the views from the back deck, jumping in the cold lake water, and warming up in the hot tub. Beds are plush and comfortable, kitchen is well-stocked, dining table has seating for a crowd, and the living room is even nicer than it appears in pictures. The location is about 15-20 minutes from downtown Port Angeles, where we stocked up on groceries and took the Black Ball Ferry to Victoria BC one day. From this location we were able to access Olympic National Park including Hurricane Ridge to the east and the coast/Ruby Beach, Hoh Rain Forest to the west. Overall it was a fantastic getaway and we couldn't have been happier with the accommodations and spectacular setting.

The only reason I'm giving 4/5 stars is that communication with the owner was lacking. After I'd confirmed booking, signed the contract and mailed a deposit check, I received an email saying he planned to rent to someone else for our dates. It was easily and quickly straightened out over email but the oversight gave me pause. Then, on the day of our arrival, I contacted him for instructions on how to get into the house and he told me he would need to go into the office to check to see if he had received our full payment sent weeks earlier. We didn't know if we would need to drive 45 minutes to Sequim to pick up keys or if we could go directly to the property until we were within minutes of the house, which was worrisome especially without great cell phone service in the area. In the end, everything worked out and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at this great house, but communication was not the best.

Perfect long weekend

  • 5 of 5

This house is great! We had most awesome stay at Lake Sutherland, ideal serene destination. The cabin is conveniently located off of 101, between Port Angeles and the coast. From there we could easily drive to Forks, La Push, Ruby Beach and hot spring of Sol Duc.

The house itself is quite adorable, perfectly situated on the lake shore. Small to seem cozy, yet spacious with plenty of room to roam. It had all we needed and more. Ron, the host, was easy to reach and communicate with.

Thank you for sharing your retreat with us!!

Family get away

  • 5 of 5

We loved this home. Spotless clean, light and airy, excellent location. We woke up every morning and sat on the deck enjoying our coffee. We were the closest to the water yet had privacy. Eagles flew by every day and ducks hung out with us in the afternoon. One of the best fishing places happens to be straight off the deck in the middle of the lake. We highly recommend and will look forward to returning. The pictures do not do this home justice. Ample room for all who stay.
