There is 1 bedroom with a Full sized bed, a large and open sitting room with a Full sized futon and a Twin sized fold-away-bed and 1 full bathroom. (Please be aware that you will have to bring along your own sheets and towels, but there are blankets for all the beds...)
The sitting room features a great wood stove that can be left open as a fire place, Hi Def flat screen t.v. with DVD player and connectivity for your laptop/iphone/ipad.
Flowing together with the sitting room is a full sized and complete kitchen (pots/pans, forks/knives, coffee maker...). There is also an outdoor barbecue.
Outside enjoy a large and lightly wooded front yard and endless hiking up the mountain behind the cabin.
About the area:
New York's Catskill Mountains include one of the largest and most complex natural areas in the East - on par with the West's Yellowstone National Park. Round, forested mountains; narrow, winding valleys; rushing streams and rivers are features that attract many to the 600,000 acres of the Catskill Park.
One of the best kept New York State secrets is Bear Spring Mountain Campground, well-known for its excellent hunting and fishing, as well as its facilities for campers with horses. A good multi-use trail system for hiking, horseback riding, and snowmobiling also is available.
The Catskill Fish Hatchery near Livingston Manor is open to the public. Catskill streams offer some of the finest trout fishing in the East.
Among the best known waters are Esopus, Beaverkill and Willowemoc creeks. Each year, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation stocks fingerling and yearling trout throughout the Catskills.
Rolling hills, forested mountains, ponds, streams and historic sites can all be found within the Catskill Park.
Some of the Catskill campgrounds are open in the spring for early fishing and camping, and in the fall for hunting and autumn foliage viewing.
In the high peaks of the Central Catskills, a different kind of ski experience welcomes you: Belleayre Mountain and Forest Preserve skiing.
It's a world of difference. Belleayre Mountain lies in the heart of the Catskill Forest Preserve on 'forever wild' land, unblemished by the blare and glare of commercialization. The mountain and its 33 trails are expertly maintained by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
I am a musician and lover of the outdoors. I grew up in Long Island NY and have lived for many years in Brooklyn. There's pretty much nothing I like to do more than travel, except for hiking in the woods and quietly relaxing in the mountains.
Jonathan Spanos purchased this cabin in 2009
I bought this property because of its prime location for enjoying anything and everything the Outdoors has to offer us all year round. I wanted to have access to a place of my own to 'get away' from time to time, as well as provide a clean, cozy and affordable place for others to be able to take some time for themselves and breathe the fresh air and drink the clean water of the mountains.
They have everything you need, everything is clean, and the home heats up very quick. Very close to hunter mountain. Nice spot for a getaway.
the cabin was perfect! Cozy and intimate. The host provided everything we needed and more ! Cabin is clean, warm and close to trails and town
For shopping. Also make sure to stop by Moosepeak restaurant for dinner ! Our getaway was everything we expected.
The owner was informative, descriptive, and responsive - telling us precisely what to expect and where we may want to venture to. There are plenty of hiking trails around and scenic areas to admire. The cabin itself was clean and cozy and easy-to-find from the road. I enjoyed every minute of the experience and there are great restaurants about fifteen minutes away from the Cabin by car.
Had a one night stay in this very nice, quaint property. LOVE the fact that it is off the grid (no TV, no cell reception!); just quiet and peaceful. It was very clean and well-maintained, though there were a few minor issues: it's possible the place had not been rented in awhile, hence the water was slightly brown-tinged (toilet and shower). It had a bit of a metallic smell, so I am assuming the local water is highly mineralized (and will tend to concentrate even further if the water is not run in awhile). Not a big deal overall. Also, though there was a full kitchen, there was no coffee pot/maker, which I thought was a bit unusual. Finally, we had to bring our own sheets, pillow cases and towels...again, not a huge deal, and if that helps keep the cost of the place down, I get it, but having some inexpensive Wal-Mart linens and towels available wouldn't seem to be that hard.
The owner was VERY accommodating and prompt with comunications, etc. Overall, a great experience!
The property is very clean and well-maintained with everything one needs for relaxing. We went there after a day long hike and had a wonderful night and day after. The owner is also quite responsive, answering every question we had in a matter of minutes. Overall a perfect stay! I would definitely try this place again (and again!).
What a wonderful find! We stayed a week here, and enjoyed every minute. Very comfortable, clean, and easy to heat with the nice little wood stove. We enjoyed the beautiful view of the mountains, and although we didn't do any hiking, we took a walk and found a nearby creek to do some rock skimming - something we hadn't done in years! It was quiet and cozy here, and although we missed having wifi, we found time to read, relax, do some creative cooking, relax, write some letters, relax, enjoy watching the antics of the chipmunks in the front yard, and relax... We would certainly recommend this cabin, and if we ever have the opportunity to return, we wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Thanks, Jonathan!
Great location for skiers, only about 20 minutes to all 3 area resorts: Hunter Mountain, Windham Mountain and Belleyare Mountain.
Hiking, fishing, hunting, swimming all right out the front door. The cabin sits within the Catskill State Park, so it's all right outside! Just walk uphill behind the cabin to find hiking trails and hunting grounds, or across rt. 42 to find a river to swim and fish in. (There is a GREAT hike who's trail head is off of Spruceton Road, 2 minutes south on rt. 42) A little further out, take a short drive to any of the many reservoirs in the area for a day hike or picnic.
To see the beauty of Autumn in the Catskills, just look out the window or sit on the porch...the cabin faces the broad side of Halcott Mt. heavily wooded and bright with color in the fall.
For restaurants, shopping, antiquing, craft fairs and festivals, take a drive to nearby Windham and Tannersville to the North, or Phoenicia and Woodstock to the Southeast.
