You Get What You Pay For
My wife and I stayed at Laura and Tim's Hilton Head Resort condo for the month of February 2020. We didn't have great expectations as we knew the condo would be small, but it was relatively inexpensive and appeared to have everything we needed for a month long stay. We were disappointed in both the condition of the condo and the Hilton Head Resort. First, the condo. On the plus side, the beds were comfortable, and the unit came with all of the things in the amenity list. However, it is in serious need of updating, a thorough scrubbing, and a new paint job. The closets were jammed with so much stuff, we did not have room to hang clothes for a month. Maybe the locked large closets that were unavailable could have been better utilized. To her credit, Laura was very responsive to our complaints.
Now the resort. It is very poorly maintained. Dirty carpeting and elevators, holes in the ceilings/roofs, in need of many repairs. We could not use the facilities – the washers/dryers were out of order for 3 weeks out of our month. We had visitors who did not have passes who were told to leave the resort area entirely (even though there was a parking spot they could have used to wait at) until we could get permission from Laura or Tim for them to enter (which Laura responded to right away). It was very embarrassing to us. We had no prior knowledge of a visitor requirement like this. We love Hilton Head and we have been there many times - needless to say, when we go back we will be avoiding the Hilton Head Resort.
I am very sorry that you were not able to fully enjoy your stay. We do have quite a few amenities for short term rentals that do take up space in the closets, making a month long of stuff potentially challenging to fit in. We will definitely talk with our cleaners to ensure the cleaning is satisfactory. We do a deep clean once a year and then they clean regularly upon a guests departure. We also repaint areas several times a year but with rentals, folks do have a tendency to scuff the walls. Thank you for letting us know so we can get back down there to spruce that up. For the resort, it was off season so there is a lot of work going on. They were unfortunately swapping out old washers and dryers for new ones that accept cards and are more industrial sized during your stay. I do apologize for the inconvenience but they should be a much better option for future guests. Lastly I do know there are several paint/ patch and other updates and upgrades next contract for this year so some of the issues the guest called out should be remedied in the near future. Thanks.
Good value for the money
The condo was comfortable and a good size for just my husband and I. The master bedroom bed was quite comfortable. The couch in the living room was comfortable as well. The boardwalk to get to the beach was lovely-we saw herons and ibis every day on our walk. However, although the listing states the condo overlooks the lagoon, I mistakenly thought from the pictures that you could also see the boardwalk and a bit of the ocean from the balcony. You can't. You actually have to walk past a couple other buildings to get to the boardwalk. This was fine with us but just be aware for anyone who can't walk far, it's a bit of a hike. I believe there may be a shuttle to the beach, though.
The beach itself was gorgeous-extremely clean with the most comfortable sand I've ever walked on. I was able to walk barefoot in comfort at both high and low tides.
It would have been nice if we had been given more than one roll of toilet paper per bathroom and more than one roll of paper towel for the kitchen, but otherwise the condo is well stocked. We appreciated the beach chairs that were there for our use.
The condo is conveniently located near Shelter Cove which has many different shops and restaurants, as well as a grocery store. It's just a few minutes away by car. Overall, I would definitely recommend for a two person stay-it does have room for a couple kids as well but would be a bit tight.
The condo and property were perfect for our family! We loved that the condo had a pack and play and beach toys. The walk to and from the beach wasn't far and often had shuttles running. Perfect Location!
We will be back!
This is our families second trip to Hilton Head. This condo resort is centrally located and staff was pleasant. Condo owners were amazing to communicate with. Condo building is slightly dated and worn. But nothing to prevent a future stay. The actual condo unit was decorated in a fun beach theme and very family comfortable. Walk to beach from unit is around 10 mins so pack light. We saw signs for the beach shuttle but with our total of 5 trips to the beach we never saw the shuttle. Coco’s on the beach is a great spot and as always Hilton Heads white sugar sandy beach was ahhhmazing!!!!
This is a nice quiet location for young families. Great beach access. Condo was nice and clean but elevator was very slow and grounds could use some updating.
The location of the condo was great! The walk to the beach was great for exercise, but long with small children. But a few things that disappointed us was the booster seat/high chair was disgusting. I do not know what was on it, maybe candy or gum of some kind. Second, we have a crawling infant and the rugs have stains and hair all over them. The floors were sticking, mostly in the kitchen and master bathroom. Third, the electrical cord for the microwave had to be placed just right to get the microwave to work. And Last, there were bugs (looks like cockroaches to us) in the dishwasher and between the cabinets near the stove. The resort itself was well maintained! The condo is in the building with the indoor pool which made it a good and bad thing-- It was an easy walk, but the indoor pool doesn't close until 10 or 11 at night and this made it hard for our 5 year old to go to bed at night with the noise from the indoor pool. (the kids bedroom was the interior room, closest to the indoor pool)
I am very sorry you all did not have a good time. We did coordinate with you and offer a partial refund. Unfortunately, you did not let us know of the cleanliness issue until after you had checked out so we could not fix it for you. We have just changed cleaning companies due to some issues we had with the former one, and if you had let us know we could have had someone come and fix any issues you had. As to the cockroaches, we have never had any issues prior but it is South Carolina and bugs are around. The resort sprays quarterly and I have asked them to follow up to make sure we don’t have any issues there. We do take concerns seriously and I wish you had reached out when you first arrived so we could have resolved it early and ensured you had a good experience.
There is a very affordable bike rental onsite by the main outdoor pool which allows you to roam the extensive walking/biking trails that connect right at the Resort. You can easily walk down the street to a nearby park, the Shelter Cove Mall, grocery store and Starbucks.
