Description

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Mystic - The Historic Allen Avery House

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-6)

Our 4 room apartment, the first floor of the 1879 historic home of Allen Avery, allows you the opportunity to get away from your every day routine and find yourself at the gateway to what has been aptly named Mystic Coast and Country. With beautiful hardwood floors and lots of sunny windows, this can be your home away from home for a short stay or a long, lazy summer. Located in the historic district, you can stroll amongst the other historic homes or shop and dine in the heart of downtown Mystic. You can walk across the historic bascule bridge and rent kayaks or canoes to explore the Mystic River, watch the 100 year old Sabino steam by going to and fro from Mystic Seaport or be on board the Argia as she passes under the bridge and gets ready to set sail. But be sure to enjoy an ice cream cone on the walk back home.

You can use the fully equipped kitchen to whip up a 5 course meal or grill up the fresh local catch of the day on the brick patio, ending the evening at the nearby pub or one of the theaters. The off-street parking area is surrounded by unique perennial gardens to be enjoyed by all and the house is both child and pet friendly, with some owner discretion with regards to the latter. It is a non-smoking accommodation and property.

Window air conditioners and ceiling fans cool things down in the summer and a powerful gas stove in the living room as well as electric baseboard heat keeps you warm when the temperatures start to drop. The apartment easily sleeps 6 with a king size bed in the bedroom and a double bed futon and full size sleeper sofa in the living room. The dining room accommodates 6 at the table, while the kitchen is eager to host a cozy breakfast, lunch or dinner for 2. There is one full bath. The layout of the apartment easily adapts for a family, two couples, or a girls’ only getaway. There is a flat screen TV, DVD, and stereo in the living room and another flat screen TV in the bedroom.

About The Owner

We live nearby and frequently complain to each other that there are so many things to do that it is hard to choose! We hope that you will have the same problem and would love to help you customize your visit to take advantage of all the opportunities this region can offer: history, art, nature, culture and theater; entertainment venues and outdoor activities of all sorts.

Or if you are a lighthouse lover, there are more than half a dozen lighthouses to be sighted off the shores of southeastern Connecticut as well as several places on shore in Stonington, Mystic, Groton and New London to go to learn about them up close and personal.

We love to travel and experience things as a native and want to offer that opportunity to our guests as well.

Walk Everywhere!

  • 5 of 5

We rented for the Month of July staying mostly on long weekends and really enjoyed the apartment. It is right downtown and this lets you walk everywhere easily. 90+% of all restaurants are a 5 minute walk or less. Also, a walk around the block takes you through the finest historic home district in Mystic, absolutely beautiful. Anne-Marie is a great landlord and has the place stocked to the rafters with every conceivable thing you will need from 2 sets of dishes, kitchen gadgets, even cloth napkins and placemats. Also every cleaning supply, personal toiletry, extra towels etc. etc. Being there a month, we got to know Anne- Marie and she is right on top of everything. The apartment is clean and comfortable. This was a great base for our vacation.

Great little apartment in an Excellent location!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was exactly what we expected and was as described. It is in the heart of downtown Mystic, so expect a little noise. We had a wonderful stay and were able to walk everywhere in town. Many wonderful restaurants and shops so close by. We would stay there again.

Owner's Response: Glad the bed was comfortable! It was so hard to know which firmness and pillow top to buy - sounds like we chose well!

Downtown Mystic

So I don't normally come back to give reviews on my vacations but I feel as if this property needed a good review. I have read all of the other reviews and very little negatives were expressed. I feel as if I need to point out all the negatives and then I will come back to the positives. That way, I can be fair to all. First and foremost, the king size bed was extremely uncomfortable. It is actually two cheap twin mattresses and the middle of the bed is unusable. After 3 nights, my wife and I moved to the futon in the living room and felt like we were then sleeping on marshmallows. Secondly, the walls are as thin as paper and therefore you can hear EVERYTHING outside. The first night, I could have sworn someone was having a conversation in the bedroom. The bedroom windows face the street and the sidewalk is a matter of inches away. Every sneeze, cough, laugh, or conversation was as clear as if you were right in front of the person. Friday night and Saturday night were the worst, and the rest of the week was not as bad. Third, the half used sample bottles of shampoo, toothpaste, and even the who knows how old loofah were somewhat disgusting. I would have preferred no bottles and a recommendation to bring my own, which of course, I did. Finally, the hot water heater kicked off at least once a day. It was as simple as pressing a red button in the closet and I would recommend pressing it an hour before showering just to ensure it was working. Now, that being said, I'm sure you have notice that I gave the review 4 stars, but how?!? Well, 3 words: Location, location, location! I am not kidding, this had to be the most reasonably priced place in the area for how perfect of a location it was. If you want the quaint, New England, downtown feeling, this house is perfect for you! Absolutely everything you need is a short walk away with the exception of maybe groceries. My wife and I walked everywhere from shops, restaurants, ice cream, liquor store, and even CVS. I could go on about how amazing of a location this was. The neighboring building is a cute little pub (which explains the loud noise on the weekend) and a block away is the nicest coffee shop. Additionally, this house offers off street parking and will allow pets! The upstairs tenant is extremely quiet and gone nearly 12 hours a day. I'm running out of room, but if you do not need a luxury hotel and want to experience a truly amazing city in a cute historic home, call up Anne-Marie and book this place now!
