Historically, a traditional Adirondack Camp brought family and friends together for the tranquility and peace of these impressive mountains and lakes. Our Camp on Friends Lake in the Lake George Region is no different, hosting gatherings of all sizes. The living space is very comfortable serving up to 7 people, including children, with a large stone fireplace, dining area, 1 bath, kitchen, front porch, and living room area that has seasonal views of the lake through the thick trees that populate this quiet parcel of land. There are four bedrooms with each sleeping up to two people (2 queen, 1 full, and 2 twin beds in all). Each season is a special treat in the Lake George Region of the Adirondacks: winter skiing at Gore Mountain, fall leaf-watching, summer swimming, hiking, local tourism, and boating.
A beautiful private sandy beach for swimming, picnics, boating, and grilling is available only a short 5 minute walk from the Camp. Children should always be supervised, but for bigger kids (and adults) a floating dock is anchored a short swim from shore for deep diving.
Thanks so much for the use of your cabin! We had planned a few daytrips in the area, as we have 4-year-old twins and assumed they'd get a little stir-crazy in a cabin by the lake for 5 days (with [gasp!], no TV!). As it turned out, we never left the property! The kids absolutely loved it and are already asking when we can return. The lake is gorgeous. Sandy beach w/ a gentle slope into the water, perfect for the little guys. CRYSTAL clear- I could actually see the floating dock's anchor bucket, which had to be 15' deep. Remarkably clean water. We spent every morning swimming and sand- castle building, then back to the cabin for a late lunch, and capped off each evening with a sunset kayak trip. Back to the cabin for dinner, and after the goblins were asleep, enjoyed the firepit, crickets, and cocktails under an unreal canopy of stars. The cabin was well-kept, clean, and had all the provisions we needed to cook everything from BBQ chicken to oven-braised short ribs. Thank you for opening your home to us, and allowing us to build some wonderful family memories!
We arrived at the cottage after 9:30pm during a thunderstorm and to our surprise the lights were on , What a welcome sight ! We loved the fact that this place was pet free and smoke free due to our kids allergies and asthma. The decor was perfect, the kitchen well stocked to cook in and the absence of a TV was great!! The library / game room was a homerun. Oh, by the way the lake was refreshing , and the canoe and kayaks were fun! Our only complaint would be that our stay was to short. We plan on seeing you next year .Thanks for having such a lovely mountain getaway. The Melbers Myrtle Beach, S.C.
We really enjoyed our stay at this property, which has a "genuine" cottage feel, while being perfectly clean and cozy. The ideal place for canoeing, swimming, hiking and relaxing around the firepit. We did a nearby trail called The Pinnacle, which takes about one hour and gives a breathtaking view of Lake George. There is also an abandoned mine not too far that we found very interesting. The Palmer Pond Trail is also good. So many things to do! And the owner is very nice. Highly recommended!
Wow, what a wonderful vacation! Our family rented this lovely cottage for a relaxing week in the Adirondacks and it met every expectation set. It's surrounded by woods and far enough from other cabins in the area for ample privacy. There is plenty of room inside and a lovely meadow area for the kids to play in between the cottage and the fire pit. There is a stockpile of board games and books to browse during downtime. The kitchen was fully stocked with cooking gear.
The highlight is probably the beach, which is perfect for swimming - there was no seaweed in sight. There are enough shallows for small children to play in, but it gets very deep - perfect for jumping off of the floating dock. We also took the canoe out, which provided an amazing view of the surrounding hills and distant mountains. The trek back up to the cottage is short, but it's a pretty steep climb.
We spent a day hiking the DEC trail to Palmer Pond, which is about a 3.5 mile hike round trip, but the views are incredible and it was a fantastic deep-woods adventure that even our 5 year old handled with minimal piggy-backing. We had lunch and ice cream at the adorable cafe in Chestertown.
The Natural Stone Bridge and Caves in Pottersville was crowded but well worth it. The gemstone mining was a huge hit with my 10-year old, who had already found rose quartz on the beach and was doing gemstone research the whole time we were there.
We intended to go to Lake George Village for a day, but decided against it. We really enjoyed the scenic cabin and spent at least some of every day at the beach. We had a fire in the pit on the beach our last night and the view of stars from there is spectacular. The lake was very serene at night.
Well after dark, the circle of trees around the cabin make the ideal frame for a breathtaking view of the night sky. You can see massive star clusters and shooting stars - it was without a doubt the best part of being in the Adirondacks.
All in all, the owner was very easy to work with and the neighbors (which we saw very little of, really) were super welcoming.
A few notes about the area:
1. The Tops in Chestertown is very small and expensive and it's the only one around, so if you want something special, bring it!
2. If you drive down NY-8 toward Brant Lake, there are tons of people selling firewood dirt cheap. Don't buy it at Tops.
To the Owners - Thank you for sharing this lovely cottage with the world! It's beautiful!
We thoroughly enjoyed out stay. The camp is cozy, comfortable and clean with everything we needed. The lake is a short walk away, beautiful and quiet. We used the canoe to explore the lake and saw turtles and heron. The nearby caves made for a great afternoon activity. We finished our day with a fire outside in the fire pit. All in all a relaxing get away.
Bright 4 bedroom camp with a great fireplace that we used all weekend! There is a beautiful and quiet wooded area outside, and quick walk takes you to a private beach. It's a short drive to antiques, restaurants, shopping, and groceries. We found a place giving maple syrup tours and serving pancakes! This place is great, we had a blast! Definitely will rent this camp again!
The quiet community of Chestertown is home to shops, restaurants, horseback riding, art galleries, supermarket, bank, and more. Lake George and its bustling village is just 20 minutes away. Conveniently located off Interstate 87 within the Lake George Region of the Adirondacks where restaurants, attractions, and mountain activities are in abundance. Remain at the Camp and you have a relaxing Adirondack escape to remember for years to come.
