The mountain log cabin is a beautiful retreat. From the deep porch, you have spectacular long range mountain views and can watch the sunrise with a mug of coffee. It's in a wooded, peaceful setting surrounded by nature, yet close to nearby activities and shopping. This is a one bedroom, one bath, cozy cabin. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots/pans, dishware (etc). A fire pit and hot tub adds to the comfort of your retreat. The comfy bed has ultra-soft linens and towels, and the cabin has plush robes for your nights in front of the fire pit or after a nice soak in the hot tub. We also have Roku, antennae TV, a DVR and a radio/CD player and wireless internet for your enjoyment. About Judy Howell

John and Judy both worked for the US Marshals Service, and met in 2007. In 2012 they married, and enjoyed traveling to the Blue Ridge/Smoky Mountain area whenever they could. They fell in love with the Waynesville/Asheville area, and knew they had to retire there. They searched the area for property to buy, and as soon as they drove up the driveway of this one, they knew it was the one.

Judy Howell purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Judy Howell chose Waynesville

This property is so unique. It was an old farm and in the same family for a hundred years until early 2000. It's on 13 acres, surrounded by meadows and forests, with spectacular mountain views. You will feel like you are isolated in nature, but are in fact minutes away from towns, shopping and activities. It is, truly, the best of both worlds. This property has hiking trails, long range mountain views, mountain streams, and privacy.

What makes this cabin unique

From the front porch of the cabin, you can sit with a glass of wine or hot cup of cocoa, and gaze at the mist in the meadows or the spectacular views of the mountains. Listen to the sounds of nature and watch the fireflies dance in the evening. You will forget how hectic life can be when everything here is so tranquil. The cabin is cozy and comfortable; it's charm and hominess is to be enjoyed by couples, honeymooners, or folks looking to get away. The bedroom is comfy, outfitted in soft bed linens. After a day spent hiking or shopping, you will look forward to snuggling up in your nest. The living room has games and cards, but also has TV and wireless internet for times when you want to 'plug back in'. You will love staying here; it's like your home away from home. There are streams on the property, as well as an old barn. The property will delight you and renew your spirit.

Guestbook comments from the manager

"We enjoyed our stay in your cabin so very much! It felt like home and we really appreciated the relaxing, welcoming atmosphere you provided for us. We loved sitting in the hot tub and gazing at the stars (something we don't get to see in Atlanta!). We actually got engaged Friday evening right on the front porch, so I know we will never forget this place! We will surely be back!"

Absolutely perfect!!

  • 5 of 5

I can not say enough about how satisfied I was with my cabin and the property. What a perfect get away for me. The view out of this cabin is spectacular!! The owners took care of every need and knowing that they are on the property made me feel safe even though I never saw them! Wish we could have met. They really go out of their way to make you feel you have total privacy. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone!! Loved it!!!

We stayed October 22-27, 2017

  • 5 of 5

We booked this cabin in the mountains for our 26tb wedding anniversary. The cabin was awesome and the location was perfect. Mrs. Judy thought of every detail. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would love to come again. Jasmine loved it as much as we did. She was overwhelmed with all the new smells. Thank you for a wonderful, wonderful time.

Perfect weekend retreat for two!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful two night weekend at this very authentic and rustic cabin - it had all the amenities you could think of and some you didn't even know you needed. Very peaceful and quiet - loved the interior and all of the décor, the wood beams. The towels are so soft and there are plenty of them - which is an odd thing for me to remark on - but we loved the towels! This is a great central location to get to the different areas around. Very clean - and a perfect size for a couple. Did I mention the towels? Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

This cabin was everything we could have wanted for our peaceful retreat. The area is beautiful, the kitchen is equipped with everything I needed to make some meals and there are ample places to dine nearby if we wanted to eat out. Loved this place and we'll be back!

Rest and Relaxation Guaranteed!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at The Dream Cabin so much that we stayed an extra night. We arrived to a well-stocked, super-clean, adorable little cabin with great views of the Smoky Mountains and rolling farm hills. We travel to the NC mountain area each year for our anniversary (this was our 8th) and have always avoided properties with owners on site because we feared for our privacy. This was never a problem at Howells at The Moon Farm. Judy was extremely responsive if we needed something, yet always respectful of our privacy. There are also cleverly placed fences and the two cabins are situated back-to-back shielding your view from the cabin above and below. Outside of an occasional car we saw no one and heard nothing but the sounds of nature. We enjoyed farm fresh eggs from their beautiful chickens, and a complimentary jar of peach preserves--and getting them was all just a text away. When we walked around the farm it was beautiful and so quiet we felt like the only ones there. We felt as at home as the wild turkeys we saw pecking in the orchard. The hot tub is perfect for two and also so clean. The hammock is perfectly perched between two trees with a view out to the mountain range. Did I say clean? I am a clean freak so this is important to me. Even the lamps and windowsills were dusted (this is not a common practice at a lot of cabin rentals). On a cleanliness scale this property is #1 of all cabins we've ever stayed at and the cabin and grounds rank in the top two of all our stays the past 7 years. We can't wait to come back. Thank you Judy and John for an amazing vacation.

Please be advised that if you are booking on a day when a prior guest is checking out the day you are checking in, the hot tub will not be up to temperature on the first evening. We drain, clean and refill the hot tub between guests, as required by NC law, and a same day turnover is not enough time for it to get up to the proper temps. It will be ready the next morning.
