Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cabin in Waynesville - Dream Cabin

Cozy one bedroom/one bathroom Mountain cabin on 13 acres

The mountain log cabin is a beautiful retreat. From the deep porch, you have spectacular long range mountain views and can watch the sunrise with a mug of coffee. It's in a wooded, peaceful setting surrounded by nature, yet close to nearby activities and shopping. This is a one bedroom, one bath, cozy cabin. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots/pans, dishware (etc). A fire pit and hot tub adds to the comfort of your retreat. The comfy bed has ultra-soft linens and towels, and the cabin has plush robes for your nights in front of the fire pit or after a nice soak in the hot tub. We also have Roku, antennae TV, a DVR and a radio/CD player and wireless internet for your enjoyment. Sit on your porch and listen to the sounds of nature, watch the wildlife, or see the beauty of the mountains change color throughout the day. In the evening, you will spot deer, turkeys and ground hogs, as well as the fireflies dancing in the grass. Enjoy the onset of dusk with a glass of wine in front of a crackling fire. Let the Shadow of the Moon Cabin and it's private, peaceful setting rejuvenate you.

About Judy Howell

John and Judy both worked for the US Marshals Service, and met in 2007. In 2012 they married, and enjoyed traveling to the Blue Ridge/Smoky Mountain area whenever they could. They fell in love with the Waynesville/Asheville area, and knew they had to retire there. They searched the area for property to buy, and as soon as they drove up the driveway of this one, they knew it was the one.

Judy Howell purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Judy Howell chose Maggie Valley/Waynesville Area

This property is so unique. It was an old farm and in the same family until early 2000. It's on 13 acres, surrounded by meadows and forests, with spectacular mountain views. You will feel like you are isolated in nature, but are in fact minutes away from towns, shopping and activities. It is, truly, the best of both worlds. This property has hiking trails, long range mountain views, mountain streams, and privacy.

What makes this cabin unique

From the front porch of the cabin, you can sit with a glass of wine or hot cup of cocoa, and gaze at the mist in the meadows or the spectacular views of the mountains. Listen to the sounds of nature and watch the fireflies dance in the evening. You will forget how hectic life can be when everything here is so tranquil. The cabin is cozy and comfortable; it's charm and hominess is to be enjoyed by couples, honeymooners, or folks looking to get away. The bedroom is comfy, outfitted in soft bed linens. After a day spent hiking or shopping, you will look forward to snuggling up in your nest. The living room has games and cards, but also has TV and wireless internet for times when you want to 'plug back in'. You will love staying here; it's like your home away from home. There are streams on the property, as well as an old barn. The property will delight you and renew your spirit.

Guestbook comments from the manager

"We enjoyed our stay in your cabin so very much! It felt like home and we really appreciated the relaxing, welcoming atmosphere you provided for us. We loved sitting in the hot tub and gazing at the stars (something we don't get to see in Atlanta!). We actually got engaged Friday evening right on the front porch, so I know we will never forget this place! We will surely be back!"

Quiet, peaceful mountain retreat, conveniently located

  • 5 of 5

The "Dream Cabin" was quite cozy, with easy access to a town with anything you could want just 5 minutes or so away. Although we didn't use them, there was a nice fire pit and hot tub. We just used the cabin as a base camp to explore the areas of the mountains and cities nearby. We viewed elk up close and personal in the State Park 30-40 minutes away, and we toured Biltmore in Asheville, also 30-40 minutes away. It was a delightful location to cozy up and discuss the upcoming day's plans. Beautiful scenery and cool, clean mountain air!

Nice quiet hide-a-way!

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful cabin on the mountain. The cabin was a absolute joy to stay in. The mornings are so nice and quiet with flocks of wild turkeys visiting just about everyday. The owners have thought of just about every need that you could have during your stay. My wife and I will definitely visit again in the near future.

Experienced hiker/traveler, worst cabin experience

  • 1 of 5

Cabin was extremely hot, stench of mildew hit us when we entered, ants in the bathtub, huge spider next to sofa that could do some serious damage to children if bit, cramped quarters, hot tub in front yard, not truly secluded or private. We stayed 10 minutes and called the owner, Judy Howell, told her we were leaving and why. She proceeded to email us calling us liars and was so unprofessional and rude. We ended up driving 3 hours home and spent the next few days emailing back and forth trying to get what was due us refunded. She acted like she did us a favor refunding the damage and cleaning fee. We didn't even stay there. She kept 3 nights rent saying she couldn't rent it out. She didn't even try. We are experienced hikers and have rented many, many cabins around this beautiful USA with no problem, meeting wonderful folks. Most people in this business love nature and other people. This was one of our worst travel experiences and we simply cannot say a good thing about the cabin or the people running it. Good Luck!

Owner's Response: Dear Nancy, My husband and I take great care with our cabins, as you can see from our 5 star reviews that we consistently receive. We live on the property, and ensure that our cabins are exactly as they are portrayed on the website. We strive to provide an outstanding experience of rest and rejuvenation for our guests, and we have many people who come back year after year. Nowhere on any of our reviews will you see any mention of issues with a "stench", ants, spiders, etc. What you fail to mention in your review is that you decided to stay elsewhere and knew you were not in the cancellation window, so you decided to drive to our property and declare it "unlivable". I watched you drive up to the cabin, and not five minutes later you were calling me and telling me you were leaving. You told me you were heading for Bryson City and you gave me no opportunity to address any issues you had with the cabin. Five minutes later you were driving off the property. I went up to the cabin immediately and saw no spider, no ants, and smelled no "stench". We are at 3000 elevation, so the cabin never gets very hot, even when the air conditioning is turned off. Without you cancelling the reservation, I cannot put it back on the website for rent, so I was unable to try to get another guest in there. You, of course, got back your refundable deposit, and I did refund the cleaning fee, but otherwise we stick with our cancellation policy. We did not appreciate your vitriolic emails to us, and always treat our guests professionally and with respect. We hope you find what you are looking for and we will continue to provide a wonderful mountain cabin for our future guests.

Awesome, quiet place to spend a week in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

Nice cabin (Dream Cabin), just the right size for two people, equipped with everything you will need except for food and beverages. Awesome, private hot tub, just off the porch and covered with a canopy. Very relaxing at the end of the day (or any other time). The Howells go out of their way to respect your privacy, but are also readily available if you have questions or just would like a tour around the property. We will definitely be back.
