Please read the entire description before booking:
Cliffside Cabin is a cute rustic cabin set in the mountains of Virginia. This is a real cabin built almost 75 years ago... so it will have a real cabin feel, which means it is not perfect. Again, this cabin is not perfect. It was originally built for use only as a summer cabin.
We bought this cabin in December 2012 and have made numerous improvements, but there are still many others that we plan to make. The front of the cabin is not as cute as we would like it to be yet (we don't particularly like the red painted wood). The screen porch needs to be completely redone with new screen. We will be making improvements as we are able (since it is booked during almost all the weekdays which doesn't allow us to make any improvements). We believe the inside of the cabin is cute already though and the setting is certainly beautiful with lots of hiking trails, biking, fishing and outdoor adventures to be had nearby.
Cliffside Cabin also has a nice size deck as well as a screen porch (which will be completely redone when funds permit). The screen is rather old and dirty currently and not in great condition). We also hope to update the deck at some point too. Please note that there is another cabin on each side of this cabin, though currently one of them is vacant.
There is a king size bed in the bedroom (studio style). The floor plan is open (loft/studio style), but there is a curtain that can be closed in the bedroom for privacy if multiple people are staying. There is also a cute loft with sleeping for older kids, teenagers or the fun loving adult that has three full size futon mattresses. There is a ladder going up into the loft which is probably most suitable for kids 5 years or old. This property can sleep 8 in the bed and mattresses if shared and ten if sleep on couch. The maximum occupancy is the number of people we will allow to stay not the amount that can sleep in beds.
The bathroom has a shower/tub combination as well as a sink and toilet. There is also a washer and dryer that guests are welcome to use for free if they need to. There are steps leading to the cabin in both the front and the back so this cabin would not be ideal for guests who have trouble with steps. Pets are welcome but we do require a pet fee...$49 plus tax
Cliffside Cabin is a great place to see the stars. On clear nights, you can see thousands of stars overhead. It is a beautiful sight. Also during the spring and summer months, you can see humming birds everywhere. We place feeders off the front porch of the house and have personally seen upwards of 20 birds at one time at our cabins here in Rawley Springs.
Check in time is 4:00 pm until 10 pm and checkout is 11 am. Early check-ins, before 4, or Late check-ins, after 10 pm, and late check-outs, after 11 am, require a $20 per hour fee. Please ask in advance about late check-ins.
No smoking in the cabin. No beer pong or Hookahs. Noise must kept to a minimum and quiet hours are 9 pm to 9 am.
Guests are required to sign a rental agreement upon arrival and a photo ID. For this reason, the person who makes the reservation has to be the there at the time of check-in, unless the contract is signed and arrangements are made for someone else to check-in in advance.
Pets are welcome at all of our properties. If you or someone in your group is allergic to pets or allergic to anything else (detergent, air fresheners, etc), please let us know in advance so we can discuss this prior to your booking and then also prior to your arrival.
All pet fee(s), early/late check-in or late check-out, firewood or extra person fees are not refundable once paid.
This cabin has a floor model a/c in the living room. There is also a ceiling fan and central heat. In summer months the central heat can operated on the fan setting which allows the unit to be run and circulate air throughout the cabin. There is a wood stove in the living room and firewood can be purchased upon arrival (firewood must be purchased on site and not brought by guests). Because this is a real old cabin, there are things you should expect to find on occasion in an older real cabin such as spider webs (we clean them for every guest but they do reappear quickly), ladybugs, tiny critters and the occasional stink bug during certain times of the year. Sheets, toilet paper and towels are provided. Paper towels are not.
Failure to show up/check in or contact owner before midnight of day of arrival will result in cancellation. Host reserves the right to rebook property if guest does NOT contact owner.
If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to ask. We look forward to you staying.
We came to Virginia from Texas so I (Steven) could finish my college degree, but got into the vacation rental business by accident. :) We have 4 daughters under the age of 5. We have 6 rescue dogs, 3 rescue cats, 3 ponies, 10 goats & about 50 chickens.
We believe service is what sets us apart in the vacation rental industry. Katie & I personally own every cabin that we manage. We check-in all of our guests personally (sometimes even as late as 2 or 3 in the morning with prior approval). When you arrive, the lights will be on and you will be welcomed and shown around the cabin, unlike most other rentals where you access a lock box and walk into a dark cold house. This is all we do 24/7 and we want all of our guests to have an amazing stay, but we cannot fix problems that we don't know exist. We would be honored if you would allow us the opportunity to serve you.
Katie and Steven Robert Jones purchased this cabin in 2012
We bought this property because it is close to our other vacation properties. We really like this cabin because it has a lot of rustic charm. It is very cozy and we love the loft, the screen porch and deck. The mountain views are great here in Winter when the leaves are gone. The Spring brings all sorts of birds including lots of Hummingbirds. We look forward to fully renovating this cabin within the next year or two.
This cabin has a cute loft. There is a screen porch with mountain views (only in the winter when the leaves are gone) across the side and front of the cabin. It is a cozy cabin for either a couple or a small family or even a group of friends to get together. The close proximity to the rivers and hiking trails is an added bonus.
The cabin was exactly that-a cabin. The loft is not meant for adults. The king size bed is basically in the living room and offers no privacy. It would be difficult to have more than 4-5 people in this cabin due to its size. We arrived late in the day and it was raining, the road is narrow and windy. The cabin is not appealing from the outside, but a bit better on the inside. The lighting on the inside was very dim.
We tried several times to contact the owner to ask a few questions. They were not good about responding to emails nor were they good about calling back. We had to make several attempts before we got an answer. When we finally reached the owner, her response was that they were "busy" buying more property and that she did not have access to "wifi".
Also, this owner's policy on additional guests is very UNCLEAR so beware! I had spoken to the owner a year in advance about the number of guests included in the base price (which was raised considerably because of JMU's graduation). I asked if the price included my husband, myself and our two children. I was told that the price would include the four of us. I was never asked the ages of my children. No where in this owner's contract does it say that guests over 16 are an additional $30.00 per person, per night. I was charged an additional 60.00 per night for my 2 children after I had already paid what I was told was the full price of this rental. I read the contract, which I had printed out and had in front of me, over the phone to the owner who insisted that my children were not included in the base rate because they were over 16.
I would not recommend this cabin if you are attending JMU's graduation. It is not the kind of place you would want to stay for that kind of event. It is a considerable ride from the campus (30 minute drive) and difficult to navigate in the dark.
Awesome cabin tucked away on a mountain side in the getaway of Rawley Springs outside Harrisonburg. The cabin was well appointed with everything you would need to getaway from it all. Convenient to area recreation and fishing opportunities.
The owners were very friendly and easy to talk to. The location was easy to find and the home was cozy, it could use some exterior updates, however the owners were well aware and seemed to be working hard to update their properties. The interior was exactly as shown in pictures, It had everything we needed.
Booked for 3 nights, stayed a 4th due to blizzard that blitzed my travel route. Awesome little cabin with all the comforts of home. The woodstove was a wonderful touch, our dog enjoyed our walks down the mountain roads every day, and we loved having a comfortable home base to come back to every night after our travels in the area.
This cabin everything my husband and I thought it was going to be and more. It was quiet and very cozy. The place looks exactly like the photos. Th view was amazing from the porch. I was met at the cabin by 1 of the owners Katie and her daughter. They were extremely nice and helpful with the working of everyhting in the cain. I would definitely stay here again. If your looking for a quiet getaway with your spouse or kids this is the place to go. I'm actually planning my next trip with my whole family. This cabin was definitely a good choice for us.
My husband and I loved our stay at this cabin! It's so cozy and has beautiful views of the trees and mountains from the patio. We had such a nice relaxing stay and will definitely recommend to friends :) thanks for a lovely getaway!
The cabin has a screened in porch with a great view of the as mountain on the exterior. The cabin has one bedroom with a king size bed, loft with one full and two twin mattresses, full bath, and a full kitchen with all the essentials: refrigerator, microwave, stove, and coffee maker and utensil and cookware. All linens and comforters are washed after every guest. The cabin has access to fishing and trails for hiking or mountain biking. It is about 10 miles from Harrisonburg and Bridgewater, so you're only minutes away from shopping and dinning as well.
