Overview

About the property

Originally part of a large dairy farm, this 200-year-old farmhouse (known locally as the Carver house) was completely renovated in 2007 and was used for many years as the set for a public television cooking show. The property includes a large horse barn, a dairy barn, an antique brick smokehouse, and a milk house. The house is located near Manchester, Vermont in a small, classic New England village.

The kitchen is complete with DCS ranges and ovens, Kohler sinks and fixtures, and has a wonderful view out back of the barns and meadows. The dining room is capable of accommodating at least a dozen guests, the living room has a working fireplace, and there is a mud room, wraparound & screened-in porches, and a brick patio off the back.

The home is chock-full of antiques. It comfortably sleeps 10, in 4 bedrooms, each with a queen bed, and 2 of the bedrooms include twin beds. We also have two twin air mattresses available as well as a crib and a pack 'n play. There are 2 1/2 baths -- both full baths feature beautiful tiled showers and one includes a separate bear-claw tub. There is also a full laundry in basement (washer & dryer).

The home contains a Google widescreen TV with access to Netflix and Amazon Prime Videos, a DVD player, Direct TV service, and general high-speed wifi access throughout the house. Phone for local and long distance calls. Alarm clocks in all bedrooms. Hair dryer, local maps, and firewood also provided.

Family Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Our weekend was very enjoyable, the house was very clean, the kitchen was very well equipped and the house was nicely updated. The pie and cookies was a very nice touch to add to our family get together. If I could make one suggestion is to add more furniture to family room. We will return for future visits.

Beautiful house in a quiet surrounding

  • 5 of 5

We're enjoyed this recently renovated house very much

We were 5 adults and 5 kids and there were just enough beds for everyone (there was also an inflatable mattress)

Disappointed

  • 3 of 5

We were so excited to stay at the house. The bathrooms are beautiful, the house was large plenty of room for our stay. The kitchen was well stocked, more than any other home I have stayed at. The maple syrup left for us was amazing, best in Vermont.

Unfortunately there were things that were disappointing. No king bed as advertised, 4000 sqft house parts are closed off so really not that large. The living room furniture was beyond worn, so uncomfortable and even had a ripped slipcover on the arms of the couch. The built in oven door literally fell off if you opened it, thank goodness it was a double oven and we could use the bottom. Too bad, beautiful home but needs updates that are not pricey, but impacted the time we spent in the house.

Share my experience

  • 5 of 5

The House is clean, organized with comfortable rooms and the kitchen has everything you need to feel like a chef. I love to cook and my family enjoys it, we are already planning to return.

The only recommendation would be to change the shower head for a smaller one so you can take a bath and do not worry about it wetting the floor.

Perfect for Any Occasion

  • 5 of 5

We rented the house for an anniversary celebration, but it would be perfect for any occasion. The layout of the house is wonderful and the kitchen - as you might expect - is a dream. There were plenty of towels and linens and even laundry facilities in the basement. The management team is so thoughtful and responsive - a fabulous "Welcome to Vermont" blueberry pie and cookies were delivered our first evening in the house. I can honestly say that we have never had a better experience in a prettier location. Like most of the others who have stayed here - we want to return again.
