About the property

Large greatroom w/loft open above. 3BR, 2.5BA sleeps 10+

'Schuss Platz' is a traditional ski chalet with a large deck overlooking the valley. It is located a short walk from the top ski lodge parking lot on a very desirable street. There are 2 bedrooms and 1.5 baths located on the first floor with a greatroom. The cathedral ceiling greatroom has a fireplace, large dining table, bar and a kitchen. There is a large deck across the back with a view of the deer paths through clearings in the woods. Overlooking the greatroom is a large vaulted ceiling loft sleeping/play area adjacent to a bedroom and bath. The loft has sliding glass doors to a balcony at the front. This was originally designed to be a 5 bedroom house but the loft was opened up, as well as, the 2 bedrooms below were enlarged so there is alot of room in this 1800+-SqFt chalet It is tastefully decorated with some antiques co-mingled to give a homey feel. The side entrance opens into a mudroom for boots, coats and laundry. The opposite entrance opens into the greatroom. The house is on pilings with two catwalk entrances (1 with no steps!). Driveway is at street-grade with room for 3 cars.

About Dart Alsmeyer

Hi, we are Helen & Dick and family (3 generations). We puchased this lot decades ago, had a cedar shell erected and have assisted tradesman complete the interior to our liking. It has been a great place for the extended family to gather since they are spread from Philly to North Carolina and this is a good central location. We have enjoyed watching the resort grow and add amenities (especially liked the additional ski slopes and golfing). This property was recently opened up to vacation rentals and look forward to sharing our home away from home.

Dart Alsmeyer purchased this house in 1976

Why Dart Alsmeyer chose McGaheysville

This is a superbly located chalet on the mountain near the top for views and proximity to the ski slopes. The open floorplan with the greatroom and loft above keeps everybody in close proximity and great for gatherings. There are 2 secluded and somewhat quiet bedrooms at the front of the house for those so inclined to sleep away their time here (not recommended though).

What makes this house unique

The gingerbread exterior makes you feel like you are at a Swiss chalet and the theme is carried throughout.

Had a great experience.

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed our stay. It is absolutely a dated Ski house but it was perfect for our family. Brings back memories of ski trips when I was a kid. Would stay here again.

Comfy retreat

  • 5 of 5

Third return to Schuss Platz. The whole family including the dog love our annual weekend ski trip. My children love walking the dog in the deep woods behind the property where several deer congregate. My husband keeps the wood stove crackling using wood provided by the conscientious owner. The kids get the second floor loft area and have their choice of two twin beds or the pullout couch. The dog watches from the loft window for their return from the slopes. The location is so convenient that Dad can zip back to let the dog out in the midpoint of our ski day and hardly lose any time at all. If he wants to return for us later, we text and he’s down the hill in just a few minutes. Well stocked with kitchen utensils and blankets. The mud room is very appreciated for drying out and keeping boots and equipment and laundering. Owner is very professional and responsive to inquiries. The deck is a wonderful overlook to nature and the slopes with a grill to top off a day of skiing! Thanks again, Schuss Platz!

Enjoyable trip as always

  • 4 of 5

Our family loves staying at this house each year. Looking into an upgrade of the HVAC system is needed for the future. Everything else is just fine for our family's needs. The owner is always responsive and attentive to our needs. Thank you.

Prime location - especially for the chairlift

  • 5 of 5

My two kids (2 & 4), wife, and I all spent a recent weekend here. I picked this house because the location on the map looked very accessible to the chairlifts (where my wife was attending a mountain bike camp). We all had a fantastic weekend! The location allowed my wife to bike to the chairlifts, and it was a 3 minute drive to the playground and the botanical garden trails (AWESOME place for kids). The playground and trails were so fun, we didn't even get to go to the indoor water park. The house has 2 private bedrooms on the ground floor, and 1 private bedroom on the top floor. Additionally, if you have more people, there are two twin beds in the loft area. The kitchen was extremely well stocked with appliances, utensils, pots/pans, etc. Also - there is a washer & dryer onsite, and a gorgeous deck for morning coffee or evening cocktails.

Massanutten resort is a fantastic family place. I was a touch apprehensive about what I was going to do all day long with the kids, but the accessibility of the general store, the resort's restaurant, playgrounds, trails, and all the other resort options we didn't even get to see made for a very easy weekend!! Wife and I plan on coming back for the MTB park again (and possibly skiing)!!!
