See thecottageatmisticove Facebook page for videos of cottage.
"Now this is the life!" "A little piece of paradise!" "Livin the Dream!" "It doesn't get any better than this!" Just a few thoughts that may cross your mind when you come for a stay at The Cottage at Misti Cove.
While the name may be simple, don't let that fool you, for so are the best things in life! However, extraordinary amenities run a close second and this cottage offers extra helpings of each for the best of both worlds! Here, you'll enjoy resort-like amenities without resort crowds. Amenities like free WIFI, large outdoor pool, beach area, tennis court, and pier. Extras that even most resorts don't provide like your very own private extra large waterfront hot tub with towel warmer, private waterfront fireplace chat set, Relaxation Station ( a waters-edge private beach-like lounging area with adirondack chairs, table for 2, thatch umbrella, and wood fireplace ), your very own tiki bar, 2 indoor fireplaces, 4 tv/dvd players all connected to DirecTv, 4 owner provided kayaks, 4 owner provided beach chairs, beach towels, 4 owner provided bikes, .......
Having only been rented since 2013, this cottage is in excellent condition and does not disappoint. In fact, a common theme we've heard from guests is that the cottage looks just like the pictures or better. We'd like your opinion too!
With this storybook waterfront cottage you'll get EXTREMELY CLOSE-UP views of the Piankatank River at its widest point as it feeds into an arm of the Atlantic Ocean, the Chesapeake Bay, which is North America's largest estuary. Whether you're inside, or out, the expansive water views are unsurpassed! In fact, I know of no other vacation rental in the area where the home itself is so close to the water. They don't allow homes to be built this close to the water around here anymore. The water is so close you could cast a fishing line into the water from your rear deck. You'll actually have to go out a little farther to catch the fish but the point is, 'you could'. Check out the pictures. The water is just as close as it appears.
Afterall, it's all about the water..... so don't sacrifice on the view. YOU'RE COMING TOO FAR NOT TO HAVE EXCELLENT WATER VIEWS!
Viewing the sunrise over the water while laying in bed is unforgettable! Watching the sunset illuminate the sky while soaking in your private hot tub on your private waterfront deck is sure to leave a lasting memory as well. From here, you'll also be able to take in abundant wildlife and marine life such as osprey, eagles, seagulls, deer, jumping fish, crabs, sting rays, and many other species known to the area. It'll almost be like vacationing in a wildlife and marine observatory at the same time. Maybe that's one reason Budget Travel Magazine ranked Mathews, VA in the Top 5 Coolest Small Towns in America in 2014!
While not gazing at the surrounding natural beauty, you won't be disappointed with the aesthetics of the cottage either. It's furnished with top quality furnishings and offerings throughout. Master bedroom has queen size bed w/Novaform gel memory foam mattress, 2nd bedroom has daybed w/pop-up trundle underneath that can convert the daybed to either a king size bed or two separate twin size beds. Both mattresses are memory foam as well. The Living Room, Enclosed Porch ('No Wake Zone'), Master Bedroom, and 2nd bedroom have high definition tv's with dvd players. All 4 tv's are connected to satellite tv provided by DirecTV.
Kitchen is fully furnished with refrigerator, microwave, oven/stove, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, blender, crock pot, garbage disposal, pots, pans, dishes, glasses, cups, & all the utensils you'll need to prepare a feast.
Kitchen, Living Room, Master BR, and 2nd BR have bamboo floors for that far away exotic feel!
There's more than meets the eye as well. However, rather than take pictures of inside the closets and cupboards, let me just tell you you'll find things like fluffy resort quality towels, a towel warmer, quality quilts and/or bedspreads, and an assortment of tiki bar accessories to name just a few.
Outside on the deck facing the waterfront there is a tiki bar, charcoal grill, extra large hot tub and fireplace chat set to lounge around and take off the chill on those cooler nights. If you've still got some energy left to relax, then maybe you could meander on down to the hammock a little closer to the water and rest for a spell. The hammock is canopied by two trees so once you get here you'll have it "made in the shade". Still got a little energy and perhaps feeling a little adventurous? You are now ready for the Relaxation Station... the mini beach-like area with the 2 adirondack chairs & wood burning fireplace just a sea shells throw from the water. FOR VARIETY, TRY IN REVERSE! Remember, while you're here you've got nothing but time, so why not relax and make it go as slow as possible.
Come stay for awhile and let time slow down. You'll soon find yourself saying, "Now this is the life!"
There are 4 owner provided kayaks, beach chairs, & bikes available for guests' use. Guests may keep their boat at nearby Morningstar Marina for a fee or anchor boats capable of floating in shallow water in front of cottage. Sorry, no trailered boats allowed to be kept on premises.
Quiet community offers residents & guests a beach area, pier, seasonal pool, tennis court, basketball goal, & play ground for small kids.
* Cottage has been tastefully decorated to include several pictures and other decor with scriptural references to help foster a sense of peace and relaxation.

What makes this House unique
The cottage's extremely close proximity to the water is probably the closest you'll find in the area when it comes to BIG water views. The private outdoor waterfront hot tub that guests can soak in while taking in the views is also a rarity. The outdoor waterfront fireplace chat set compliments the hot tub and helps extend the cooler days. The Relaxation Station, which is mere feet from the water, boasts two adirondack chairs and wood burning fireplace for your enjoyment while you wiggle your toes in the sand. From the endless views looking out toward the Chesapeake Bay to the enchantment of lights across the river at night, these sights and more help create a sense of wonderment that make it hard for the eye to look away.

This property on the water was by far the best experience I have had. If you ever want a quiet and serene place to visit this is definitely the best one!!!
Charming beach cottage, even for a winter getaway
We spent 3 nights at this home in March and found it really charming. TV and internet work fine (bring an HDMI cable if you want to hook your laptop up to the TV). The hot tub on the back porch was easy to use and really nice. The overlook onto the water was gorgeous and, though we didn't get to try it, there is a waterfront fireplace if it's warm enough to sit out there and have a glass of wine or your morning coffee. The fireplace chat set was really nice. Inside the house are electric fireplaces that generate heat as well, which are really nice for cuddling up while talking or watching something.
We cooked most of the time we were there, and everything worked great (electric stove), plus a number of basic supplies were available as well as a great set of kitchen utensils and equipment. The only drawback we experienced was low water pressure (and after a while, a loss of hot water). We just assumed that comes with the territory (being out in a rural area in a small cottage), but it's worth noting we never raised it with the host.
If you want to go into town, we enjoyed walking the main street in the old town-y part of Gloucester and also took a trip to Williamsburg, which was nice (I'd only recommend it if you're going to be staying here for 4 or 5 days... in which case plan to spend a few hours in Williamsburg).
We would definitely come back to stay here, and highly recommend it as a quaint getaway :-).
Amazing view and accommodations!
This was our second stay at Misti Cove Cottage! We had never been here in the bitter cold, but the temperatures did not make our visit any different. The hot tub was inviting, and the fire places kept us warm. Many blankets to wrap up in! We had lunch at the Merrior Tasting room and it was fabulous! It was too cold to enjoy the relaxation station, or the fire chat table, however we could read and play games in the beautifully decorated cottage. Misti Cove Cottage will be a vacation destination for a long time.
Amazing home on the Chesapeake Bay!
My wife and I loved this vacation getaway! Only an hour and 20 minutes from Norfolk International Airport! You have to check out the small shops in Mathews! This Home had all the amenities for the perfect mini vacation with stunning views of the Chesapeake Bay! Everything is as promised and better!
Property is great. Lots of things avalaible.
Only problems were the hot tub was unusable because of the green water. Also there were a ton of gnats in the house.
We strive to exceed our guests' expectations. Unfortunately, on this occasion due to the fact we weren't made aware of the green tint until the evening prior to our guests check-out there was no time to inspect the problem. We were not aware they were experiencing gnats until seeing this review. We are thankful to the contributions our guests have made in helping to make our cottage a success.
Comfortalbe, clean, nicely decorated with lots of personal touches
It was great. This is a place we would come back to. It is located right on the water. Wonderful sunrise views. Peaceful.
