Overview

About the property

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sleep 2-4

Settled on a small hill, just off the historic town center Basseterre, with fabulous views on the harbor and the Caribbean sea, just a 3 min. walk away from the town beach and vegetable and fish market, lies the privately owned property Palms Court Gardens, surrounded by one acre lush, tropical gardens and a luxury infinity pool.

The property consists of the main house, housing the rooms of the owners, the kitchen for the restaurant (Open Mo - Sun: 9am - 5pm) and the Shell Works gift boutique, and an all wood guest cottage. The rental apartment is on the second floor of the cottage, offering the best view on the island of the historic town Basseterre, the harbor and the ocean with the neighboring island Nevis in the background.

Being on the top floor of the wooden cottage, the apartment's ambiance profits from the open vaulted Caribbean style wood ceilings with its visible beams. The decor is held in a luxurious, mediterranean 'shabby chic' style. A fully equipped kitchen with enclosed dining/living space, a spacious bathroom with walk in shower and separate toilet, a library, free Wi-Fi, a large air conditioned bedroom with one queen size and one single bed (enough space to put another bed for a family with 2 children) and a large flat screen TV, Bose radio/CD player, offers everything you look for in your home away from home.

Palms Court Gardens is privately owned. Until 2003 it belonged to the Royal Bank of Canada who for many years had their managers staying at this property. In 2003 it was sold to a local business man and his wife - an arts and crafts teacher from Switzerland. The property and gardens then were completely transformed into a mediterranean/ Caribbean dream and opened to the public the first time in 2010. Although on a day with cruise ships in port, an average of 10 - 80 visitors are touring the garden and 10 - 40 day visitors are spending some time at the pool (9am - 5pm), the guests at the cottage still enjoy their full privacy, as the apartment is located on the second floor and out of the eye of the garden visitor.

The cottage was initially built for the family's own purposes; a design studio on the ground level and a one bedroom apartment on the second floor for their private guests. It is now offered for the first time for rent.

After the family purchased the property in 2003, a 7 year period followed of extensive restorations, re-landscaping, and adding a luxury infinity pool and the guest cottage. The family finally decided to share the beauty of the gardens and the stunning ocean, town and mountain views with the public. Carrying idea was to support the Children Educational Fund St.Kitts with the generated income. A special attraction at Palms Court Gardens is Shell Works

St.Kitts, with its production site and gift shop located between the guest cottage and main house. Jewellery, gift items and home accessories, all made from natural and local materials, are produced right on location and invite the visitor to watch and talk to the artisans.

Designed and restored for the private use, each inch throughout the garden, main house, patio and guest cottage is done with extraordinary style and class, and offering all the amenities your looking for your private home away from home.

Great property. Amazing view!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Palms Court Gardens. Amazing view of the pool, bay, cruise ships and Basseterre. Owners and staff were very friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. It was nice having the kitchen and bar open during the day giving the property a resort feel. Truly a unique property well worth experiencing.

A wonderful and romantic tree house

  • 5 of 5

We have just completed our fifth stay at Palms Court Gardens in the last five years. In 2014 we stayed for 2 weeks and then worked our way up to 5 weeks in 2018. Every time we enjoyed everything about the cottage and the location and the excellent attention from the staff.

We started referring to the apartment as our tree house as it is set high over the pool and and the bay with views of the boats and cruise ships below.

Most of the time there is a fresh breeze blowing through the apartment so there is no need for fans or air conditioning .

This time that we stayed Ernest and Claudia added some glass windows to the three bedroom windows. In the past there were just wooden slates and screens. This allowed the breeze to blow through the bed room.

The only disadvantage to this arrangement was that the windows backed up to the street behind and noise from the street could be bothersome.

The addition of the glass windows definitely muted the street noise and allowed the AC in the room to work better if needed.

Fortunately the glass windows are on hinges and can easily be opened and left open to encourage the breeze to blow through the bedroom .

We have been coming to St Kitts and Nevis since 1978 so we are well used to Island living and the quirks of Caribbean life along with the advantages of the weather and the lively culture of the local people.

We like the fully equipped kitchen and enjoy making our own breakfasts and many of our evening meals. It helps to have a car to make those frequent trips to the well stocked supermarkets and to visit the many restaurants and beaches.

In general we find our time at Palms Court Gardens an extremely relaxing and romantic interlude away from the rather harsh winter weather at home in New England.

Stepping back in time

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I found staying in the Palm Court Garden cottage akin to slipping into a favorite pair of comfortable , well-fitting slippers. All was perfect, from the attentive staff to the laid back atmosphere of the well- stocked and fabulously appointed cottage. Hard to believe the entire place was so romantically all ours after 5pm. This experience delivered on all points. Kudos to Claudia & Ernest!!

Beautiful views and relaxing retreat

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Palms Court Gardens for 7 nights and loved every minute of it! We were very busy during the day doing excursions to the beach, scuba diving, shopping, Nevis, etc but in the evenings it was so wonderful to just relax in the hot tub and take in the spectacular views from the porch.

Ernest and the staff were extremely accomodating and helpful to anything we needed. The food at the restaurant was delicious and the gardens on the property are gorgeous.

The cottage was well stocked and the attention to detail was apparent. Even the bed was super comfortable!

We can't wait to come back and visit again.

Palms Court Garden is like a hidden gem. It is really a beautiful place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

I fully enjoyed my stay and have decided this is where I’ll stay whenever I visit St. Kitts. The staff was amazing. They go above and beyond to accommodate you and assist you in anyway they can to make your experience a great one. The food was really good. Ms. Claudia the owner was off island when I was there but the way she stayed in touch with me it’s like she was there on the island. I really appreciated that. Ticoya ,Joy and Danielle were great. You can easily walk to downtown to the shops and restaurants. You will not be sorry you decided to stay at Palms Court Garden. Beautiful place and beautiful people.

Beautiful and peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the Palms Court Gardens for three nights. While busy sightseeing every day, I took time in the morning and in the evening to sit out on the wonderfully large balcony and just enjoy the view. It was spectacular! The cottage was very nice and the kitchen had every thing I needed. I moved to the Marriott for my last two nights and there is just no comparison. I missed the Palms Court Gardens. It gives you a true island feel and the location is very convenient. The staff were all super nice too. There is only the one guest cottage.... so good luck obtaining a reservation. But if you are lucky, you will enjoy your visit there.
