Description

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday mill in Le Rouret - Le Vieux Moulin

Secluded, authentic olive mill with lovely pool, small vineyard. Walk to village

There is nowhere quite like this charming olive mill, built in 1575 on top of a still visible Roman settlement. It lies next to a small brook that crosses the property with its ancient aqueduct, surrounding moat, jasmine covered water mill and secluded grounds. Ivy covers the old well, flower beds abound and fish swim in the lily pond beneath ancient cascade. Dine in the small vineyard. Le Vieux Moulin has been lovingly renovated to preserve the spirit of the past with all the comforts of a modern home. It is full of character and charm, in an exceptionally great location for sightseeing.

Located just outside the picturesque village of Le Rouret, there is easy access to beaches, lively village markets, trendy restaurants, historical sites and, to get you there, nearby trains and planes. But once inside our gates, you may not want to leave the peace and tranquillity of the old Moulin. It is an ideal place for couples who want to live their dream of being at home, in France, living like the locals do. It is also a memorable place for family and friends to gather for holidays, anniversaries, those special birthdays and reunions. This quiet oasis makes an idyllic retreat for food and wine lovers, hikers and climbers of all ages, cyclists, artists and writers, even book clubs! It is also a unique spot to host seminars, which have been conducted here by a variety of companies and institutions over the last 10 years - Our activities include cooking classes, tours to our favourite wineries and out of the way attractions, meeting the locals, and personalized cultural events. Spa facilities, reike and yoga are available upon request. There are several charming inns in the area to increase space for larger numbers of people or extra guests.

Le Moulin des Trois Arcs consists of three buildings. The mill itself will comfortably accommodate six - eight people. There are three double beds and two singles (one of which is up a tiny ladder in bedroom two), with two full bathrooms. The near-by guesthouse, Rose Cottage, has one double bed and one single bed. The large bathroom with shower, toilet and hand sink also has a washer/dryer machine. An iron and ironing board are provided as well as are hair dryers. Free wifi is available throughout the house. The artist atelier is available separately for seminars.

The mill house and its guesthouse have been tastefully decorated for comfort and convenience, and can be seen in leading decorating magazines. The building features the original beams, stone work for grinding and producing oil, and the16th century floors. There are three wood burning fireplaces and one pizza oven.

Ground Floor

Here you find the vaulted ceiling kitchen, ideal for gourmet cooking and enjoying our local foods and wine. There is a comfortable library with Sky satellite television, and a large bathroom with sink, wc, luxuriously large tub and hand shower. A cheerful glass dining room with fireplace and pizza oven looks out onto the terrace with 3 more dining tables, parasols and chairs. (The bbq is next to the stream, with additional tables available.)

First Floor

A few stairs lead up to the living room, another small library, and three main bedrooms, each with a double bed. The smaller bedroom also has stairs leading to a single platform bed. French doors grace the larger two rooms, opening onto the centuries old walled gardens, flower beds, rose gardens and passing stream.

Rose Cottage

A small wooden bridge crosses the moat, leading to the guesthouse, aptly named Rose Cottage for all the roses that surround it. The entry hall has a small kitchenette; the main room has a double bed and single bed/couch. The fireplace is fully functional. There is a covered side terrace with table and six chairs overlooking the pool, olive trees and gardens.

Pool

There is a refreshing pool 4 meters by 6.4 meters to cool off in, or splash beneath its ivy covered fountain. Peace and serenity abound as you relax and unwind around the pool and the surrounding gardens.

About The Owners

This property is owned by an Italian designer and his wife, an American born anthropologist who spend their time between France and Italy. They give seminars in design and intercultural training at the mill throughout the year for people from all over the world. Both are writers, lecturers and public speakers - they often customize programs for their guests who want an educational holiday. Their two children were raised in the house, as well as a happy array of cats and dogs.

The Owners purchased this mill in 1998

Why The Owners chose Cannes - Grasse - Antibes

It was a coup de coeur! Love at first sight. This is not an ordinary home, but an extraordinary adventure that we have had the pleasure to share with people from all over the world. The house has magic to it, it touches the essence of anyone who visits. It was built on a sacred spring, and is as healing and comforting today as when it was built, 75 years after Columbus discovered America. We don't own it, it owns us. It is a very special place that we feel privileged to share with others who love history, culture, travel, good food & wine.

What makes this mill unique

Everything about this property is unique due to the age, setting and integrity of its architecture. The benefits are that, because the owners actually live at the mill on and off throughout the year, it feels like home. They also share their professional knowledge and expertise with their guests about French culture, design, art, history, literature, philosophy, cooking, and living and working abroad (upon request, of course). Or, they just hand over the keys to your home in France. They also provide spa & well-being treatments upon request.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This incredible property far surpassed our expectations, if that is possible. It was amazing. So authentic and tastefully furnished, it seemed like a movie set, yet incredibly cozy and comfortable. Beautiful!!! Very well located, maintained to perfection. We hiked to the village, picnicked in the mill's tiny vineyard and lived like pampered locals for a week. We can't wait to go back.

A wonderful stay in a beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Cynthia and Armando's beautiful olive mill this summer, Aug 16, for 2 weeks with a large group of family and then friends, with all ages from 9 years, teenagers, young people and parents. It was the most wonderfully relaxing break and the mill is a truly unique property, which accommodates a large mixed group perfectly. From the gorgeous swimming pool, the wonderful trees and flowers to the stunning ancient mill, the whole experience made us feel as if we had completely escaped and entered a little french paradise. Our 9 yr old niece loved playing in the natural stream with our 19 year old daughter and the swimming pool is lovely and cool.

We enjoyed walking to the local restaurants in the village, where we had several meals and saw the local puppet show in the square. We also drove to the beach clubs in Antibes, which takes around 30 minutes. There is an excellent boulangerie in the local village, which is a 20 minute picturesque walk but a very quick 5 min drive. There are several very good supermarkets just a short drive away, with a fantastic selection of very good rose!

Cynthia and Armando were staying just on the edge of the property in their studio so on hand if needed, but you feel as if you have the whole place to yourself and wouldn't know they were there. They are extremely welcoming hosts and kindly invited us over for an early evening drink, with Armando teaching us to play Boules! They joined us for dinner one evening and we really enjoyed hearing about their interesting lives and careers, which are fascinating - Armando's design work is incredible!

The local villages and towns are extremely pretty and typically french and we enjoyed visiting the market on Friday morning in nearby Valbonne as well as meals in the restaurants in the squares and wandering around the little streets which are like being in a french film.

The bedrooms in the mill are large and very comfortable and the stone walls keep the house lovely and cool. The cellar kitchen is extremely well equipped with everything a keen cook could need and the little cottage in the garden is the perfect annex for teenagers or a family who need some space. All in all, it was the perfect french base for a large group and we had a wonderful holiday. We have stayed in and around Nice, Antibes and this area many times and this was definitely one of our most memorable stays!

Extraordinary property with great ambience.

  • 5 of 5

We had a truly wonderful time. The owners did everything to make us feel welcome and relaxed. Cynthia and Armando are such friendly and kind hosts. They gave us loads of tips for activities and locations that we would never had found on our own. And the house was a dream! A one of a kind place where we spent our days just relaxing and playing with our children in the garden. We feel we have gained friends for life with this vacation that exceeded all our expectations. Thank you so much, Cynthia and Armando!

This property is an oasis of tranquility, in the heart of both Cote-d'Azur with its lively beaches and the historic villages and museums of Provence. It is no wonder the artists chose this area to live and work. Your home will be a beautifully furnished and comfortable 16th Century Olive Mill with its old stone walls, flowers, fruit and olive trees. A totally unique, quality experience. As rare as it is beautiful.
