About The Owner

Jim and I have owned the property since the late 70's. In 1999, we retired and moved to the WD Ranch full time. Jim is an artist who had his own school in Scottsdale. Mary worked for the Scottsdale School District for 17 years. Jim still teaches at the community college here in Payson, twice a week. He belongs to the Payson Art League and shows twice a year with them. He has his own studio on our property. We love to hike and watch the wildlife. We put in a garden every spring/summer. Love those fresh vegetables and share with our guests when available. We have a wonderful dog named Sage. She is deaf but it doesn't slow her down. She will be the first to greet you when you arrive!

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2000

Why The Owner chose Arizona

We love Payson. It is a touch of paradise! Payson is a small town with many activities and events throughout the year! And, the people are the best! We love our area because it is secluded, quiet, and away from the city! Great place to relax and receive some R&R.

What makes this cabin unique

Staying at the WD Ranch is very quiet and secluded, but you are about 15 minutes from the Mataztal Casino, Sawmill Crossing Movie Theatre, Walmart, Safeway and Bashas. We are about 45 minutes from two beautiful lakes--Woods Canyon and Willow Springs. The fish hatchery and Horton Creek is beautiful to explore and that is about 45 - 50 minutes away.

We loved the cabin. The fact that our beautiful hosts built it made it even more special.

The cabin is so cute. Love the decor. Absolutely everything I would expect of a cabin. I loved the quiet, seeing elk in the yard, having the windows open at night and waking to birds singing. Great library of Louis L'Amour! Enjoyed the deck, outdoor dining, gas grill. Just 15 minutes from Payson. We enjoyed hiking to Tonto Natural bridge and fishing and swimming in the Verde River. Would love to visit again!

Our stay at WD Ranch exceeded our expectations! It is the cutest place ever with amazing outdoor spaces to relax. Everything you need to enjoy your getaway is here! The wildlife we saw was a great bonus, the beds were comfy, and the hospitality was exceptional. We plan on making this at least an annual trip.

Charming and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

My fiance and I stayed here for 2 nights with our 5 kids for a weekend getaway and we enjoyed our stay. The place was fully furnished and supplied with everything we needed, all we had to bring was food. The kids had fun hiking the mountain and exploring the area. A very nice experience, thank you owners!

A Delightful Diversion From the Everyday

  • 5 of 5

Let me say it upfront. The best part of staying at the cabin is meeting Jim and Mary Strong. Their cabin is rustic and colorful and other than food, is fully stocked. It's a good reason to pass on another Hilton hotel. But your hosts are even better. They are warm, bright, full of good stories and have a lot to share. They are sophisticated with big city experience yet full of small town charm. I can't imagine anyone not thoroughly enjoying their stay at the cabin. Phil

The cabin was really nice, convenient, quiet, and they try hard to make the place comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in August 2016, it's a really nice spot! Met one of the owners, Mary. They were going away for a few days she said, so we didn't get to know them as well as some of the other guests, but Mary was very nice. The way they have set up the cabin, you basically have everything you need there. We brought some food and cooked a lot of meals in the kitchen, which was well stocked. It even had a crockpot(we had brought our own not knowing), which we used to make chili one day. The cabin is not far off of the freeway coming into Payson, and a very short 10 minute drive to town. From there, you can venture off to many places. We took day trips each day to Pine and some of the lakes in the area, and afterwards, it was nice to come home to the peace and quiet the cabin had to offer and enjoy a home cooked meal. The kids enjoyed the tire swing in the front, as well as the loft area above. Very cool place! We will be coming back again, thanks so much!
