About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Welcome to wild, wonderful, West Virginia! This 5-acre plus property, located in the gated community of Timber Mountain, is your ideal rental for a family vacation, perfect for 2 couples, or even for a girls getaway with your group of friends. Experience the panoramic mountain views from the large deck and breathe in the pure air. Wake up to the gorgeous views as all the rooms open into the long deck from their own french doors!

As you enter the cabin you will find custom log seating, comfortable furnishings and immaculately done rooms. Let go of all worries as you unwind by the wood stove in the family room or take a relaxing bath in the 'spa' themed master bathroom.

The main living area is an open floor plan with a modern, fully equipped kitchen, cooking utensils, and spice rack provided so you can cook up your favorite meal even away from home! Or if you would rather eat out there are many options (Homestyle American, Mexican, Pizza, Cafe) within 5 to 10 miles from the cabin.

The cabin does have Wifi and a brand new smart TV. Also, Capon Bridge Public Library which is only 5 miles away near the Bridge in town has Wireless Hotspot available free of charge. They also have laptops and printers that you can use, should you need to catch up on some work while away.

All rooms are fitted with window ACs and ceiling fans to keep you cool in summer and baseboard heat to keep you warm and cozy in the cooler months. Change the ambience or create a romantic mood just by adjusting the many recessed lighting features throughout the cabin.

The Cabin at Capon Bridge is in the northern Shenandoah Valley near Winchester, Virginia, two hours from downtown Washington DC or Baltimore and only hour and half from Germantown and Frederick, MD. The property has 5 plus wooded acres for exploring and natural rock and flora for you to admire. If you have pets, this is an ideal property for them to explore. Children are more than welcome and will enjoy toasting marshmallows around the fire-pit on a starlit night!

Go hunting at the nearby Edwards Run, only 7 miles from Capon Bridge, where white-tailed deer, turkey, quail, squirrel, rabbit, and grouse hunting opportunities are available in the wildlife management area.

Cacapon State Park and Berkeley Springs State Park are about a 30-45 minute drive from the cabin. Enjoy the natural spring baths, antique stores, restraurants and Berkeley Castle if you do venture out to Berkeley Springs.

For hiking and rock climbing enthusiasts there is the nearby Ice Mountain (14 miles from cabin and about a 25 minute drive) maintained by The Nature Conservancy where you can explore the unique geology of the area or take guided tours. Call Steve and Terry Bailes at 304-496-7359 to schedule a guided tour.

History buffs must plan a visit to the historic site of 'Caudy's Castle' where you can get a private tour of the famous Castle Rock. Please call historian, Mr. Johnson of Bloomery, WV at 304-856-3065 for more information and to schedule a visit. Before you go, also check out the YouTube video for the story of the brave James Caudy who was born in 1707 in Netherlands and came to Hampshire County after arriving in the Frontier in the 1730s.

For railroad buffs and birdwatchers, the nearby historic Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad in Romney offers both the ride of a lifetime as well as unique eagle sightings. Maybe catch a Murder Mystery experience aboard the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, a 32-mile round trip through the valleys and vistas of the Cumberland Narrows.

One thing to note is we support recycling but there's no pick up service for recyclables by the county. So we ask that if you do separate recyclables, please drop them off at the nearby Romney transfer station.

About Angie

Our family just fell in love with this sunset view from the deck! We find this cabin to be a very relaxing and calming change from our usually hectic lives, and love to get away when we can. Hope you will enjoy this mountain cabin as much as we do!

Angie purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Angie chose West Virginia

Love the mountain views and the safe and quiet neighborhood.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our stay in your cabin a lot. It was very cozy and suitable for our group of five. The location was nice too, many nice places nearby, such as Berkeley Springs, and a nice terrain for walking. We enjoyed the wood stove and the grill very much. The terrace (deck) was the most popular eating spot! We made very good use of it--reading, napping, using the computer all took place on the deck. Thank you very much!

Just the escape we needed!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a dog-friendly escape from city lights and noise and this was within reasonable driving distance from the chaos of D.C., had great reviews, and the photos and pricing made it the winner for our weekend. Angie was super responsive, accommodating with our travel schedule, and truly a pleasure to have rented from!

The cabin was just as cozy as the photos, and extremely welcoming. The deck was perfect for our morning coffee, but bug activity at night was a bit too intense for comfort (hello Spring!). Although there was not a tv in the living room or 2nd bedroom, we never actually had the thought of wanting to watch tv. Wireless internet was provided, so streaming things when desired is easily done! Cellular service is spotty at best, but enabling wi-fi calling in our phones helped fix that.

There were ACs in both bedrooms and the main living space, which we only needed to cool things down until bedtime. We slept like babies without them (just the ceiling fans) until morning. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms had some of those items you may have forgotten to pack, and the kitchen has all the utensils we needed to prep/cook and eat our meals.

The town is just under 5 miles away and has all the basics you could need. Right near the Capon bridge is a bay/self service car wash, which had us jumping for joy when we saw how many squished bugs coated the car at first light! Past the bridge we were intrigued by The Kettle Stop, which we guiltily went to twice for ice cream and to browse the antiques barn. If you are willing to go an additional 15 miles down 50 (believe it's in VA), you can find a 24hr super Walmart, Applebees and Sonic.

Many online map services couldn't seem to pinpoint the address, but Yahoo maps and fortunately our car's GPS did not fail us. If you are arriving at night/after sunset, I definitely recommend you bring flashlights...we did not, and could barely see a thing upon exiting the car! The driveway is gravel and sloped, so don't arrive in flip-flops like we did!

We really enjoyed our peaceful, quiet weekend, and will definitely be planning to visit again!

This was a great getaway for my family for a few days. It was warm and inviting and just what we needed to get away from the hustle and bustle. The kitchen had all of the amenities we needed which was a plus. Additiinally, Angie was very responsive to any questions we had. Thank you!!!! It was a wonderful mini vacation.

Cozy and well equipped cabin

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here, it was perfect for our family of 4. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook really great meals, the beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were nice, and the views were lovely. The house was nice and clean when we arrived, and our toddler loved playing with the toys we found there. We made s'mores around the campfire and enjoyed fishing at the pond. Angie was very easy to work with, she replied quickly when I asked about the coffee pot (it's a regular coffee maker, not a Keurig, in case you were wondering). We would love to come back and stay here again in the future!

Beautiful property with a fantastic view.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying here. Angie was right about the cool night air. We were there in the high 90s and we didn't need the air conditioning at all. Had some nice walks down the road and the area was absolutely breathtaking. We went to the little church down the road on route 50 and they were great people as well. We couldn't have had a better weekend. Angie was also right about El Puente in capon springs. The food was great and the prices were reasonable. Thanks for letting us use the cabin and hopefully we will be back
