Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible sofa (s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 2-7)

Understated modern saltbox Post and Beam house on a private bluff with views of the Catskills. Invariably elicits calm, deep breath, and a smile on approach and entry. The house sits on 23 acres of open fields and wooded trails on a road (known locally for its beauty) with ponds and horse farms.

The house has cathedral ceilings on both floors, large windows, fireplace, wood burning stove, open deck from which to view great sunsets, covered porch, and marbled bathrooms with skylights. House is equipped with cable TV, high speed wireless, and outdoor grill. Fine shape, up to date and bright kitchen/bathrooms with skylights.

The property is a wonderful setting with open fields and woods for walking, hiking and kite flying in the summer and snow shoeing, sledding and x country skiing in the winter. There is a pond in close view at the foot of the driveway. Hanley Road itself is so lovely that area people routinely come to walk and enjoy the beautiful countryside.

Enjoy the delights of Columbia County including a decelerated lifestyle, a wonderful visit to the Old Chatham Sheepherding Company to visit the lambs and watch the sheep being milked. The Village of Chatham offers wonderful restaurants, serious bakeries, an antique cinema with first run movies, and an annual fall film festival, book stores, sophisticated shops/galleries and the annual Labor Day weekend COlumbia county fair. Antique shops on renown Warren Street in Hudson offer a full day of browsing. Take in a concert at PS21, see a film at the Crandell or at Time & Space in Hudson, enrich your soul at Olana and Omi. Enjoy your time in one of the most beautiful counties in New York. Tanglewood is nearby, a beautiful 30 min ride the back way (no traffic!). Albany (25min) has many cultural offerings, as does Saratoga (45min).

During ski season, within 1/2 hour to ski areas, Jiminy Peak, Catamount, Butternut and Bosquet, 2 hrs to Mt Snow/Stratton, 2.5 hrs to Bromley, 3 hrs to Killington and Whiteface. It's 2.5 hours from Manhattan. 2.75 hours from Boston.

All guests very satisfied in the past (>30 rentals),including writers, artists, hikers, photographers, and families gathered. Apologies that we have not been more aggressive eliciting their online accolades, but references available.

Why Ingrid Kemperman chose Capital Saratoga

Bright, airy, yet cozy, even on a cloudy day. Ceiling to floor thermopane windows. Perfect mix of understated sophistication, and bucolic rural environment. New Yorkers and Bostonians invariably decelerate and breathe easy here - we've had many.

Great space and views from modern family house.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful summer month here. The kids loved the wide open fields to fly kites and the swing and climbing frame behind the house. The woods were great for making dens and there was fabulous wildlife from hummingbirds at the bird feeder, to deer and fireflies at night. The house was beautifully light and spacious with wonderful views. The kitchen was wells equipped. The owners were easy to contact and quick to respond to any house glitches. We would very much recommend it as a great escape.

Great cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this house. It is beautiful post-and-beam construction and nicely proportioned for a couple or a group of six. The rolling hills that immediately surround the house make it secluded and truly special. It is also very close to all the cultural and scenic advantages of Columbia County, NY, and near the Berkshires. And watch for herds of deer romping through the grass or snow in the fields around the property!
