Ken retired from Northwest Airlines and we decided to build our house on property that has been in the family since 1963. And yes we built it ourselves! We love the outdoors and especially love living on Lake Superior. We love hunting, fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. I have trained dogs all my life and have one Golden Retreiver. Charlie is a 4 year old white golden. He loves all the people who stay in the Cabin. We have made many lasting friends. This is the only cottage on our property. We love to share our little 'piece of heaven'
Marcia Lacey purchased this cottage in 2002
When we retired up north, We wanted something to do, so we brought in a little 14 by 16 cottage to rent. We have so much fun meeting all the people who visit. When we built our home here in Hovland, we decided we had enough room to share our 'little piece of heaven'. It is a safe place for the dogs to run and have fun and not worry about busy roads. Providing a vacation rental on Lake Superior is like having a place on a small ocean.
The cottage is private. It is just like having your own cozy cottage on Lake Superior. Lake Superior is different everyday. The Flute Reed River is a great river to hike or just cool off. The cottage is private but close enough to get map information or a spice you are missing!
The Nelsons' from Good Thunder plus Samantha & Reggy, our Golden Retrievers, arrived on Monday to very foggy and cool conditions. However, the next few days were amazing. One morning we traveled to Grand Portage State Park and the Falls were amazing as was the double rainbow surrounding them. The cabin again so cozy and our dogs, plus Charlie & Rusty spent lots of time in the water. We are back in the middle of July so rest up Charlie because Reggy will try" to run you ragged!
This was my second visit this year! Thank you for sharing your beautiful place with others and for letting me bring Jack (my dog). Definitely my place for soul searching and retreating! See you in the Spring!
This tiny cottage is a true hideaway. If you want solitude and just get as far away as possible from the rat race - this is the place to be. This place and the entire North Shore is truly for nature lovers - love hiking, waterfalls or hunting for agates or just rocks - this is the perfect place for it. We appreciated that they had wi-fi and satellite TV with tons of channels. The owner makes sure that you have everything you need to make your own delicious meals. I was happy that I could take my dog with me and leave him kenneled if needed during the day. We visited Ontario and Isle Royale during our stay and loved that we could come back to our temporary tiny home after a busy day. There is nothing like having Lake Superior not even 40 feet away from your front door. Just a few reminders - the bathroom does not have a real door - just a curtain - if you open the tiny window and turn on the vent to the shower there really is no issue with the smell. The cabin has heat but no A/C - I had to turn on the heat in July because it got down to 52 one morning in the cabin with all the windows closed. If you like to fish - you can't really catch anything if you cast right out to the lake from the shore but if you bring a kayak with you and paddle out for a few hundred feet on a calm day - your chances might be better. The best fishing I've ever experienced around here is in the BWCA and it is truly worth the short drive to get there. The owner has 2 very friendly dogs but I rarely saw them during our stay. Ultimately, what I really enjoyed was the sense of being in nature with the amenities of being indoors - that is the biggest draw for me of this cabin. Also, Grand Marais is about 22 minutes or 19 miles away. If you need groceries, gas, want to eat out or do your laundry that would be your best bet.
We stayed 7 nights at this cozy cabin. Perfect location on the shore of Lake Superior. We took many day trips and most were within 30 minutes of the cabin. Drove the nearby trails (even saw a wolf), many places to eat south to Grand Marais or north to Grant Portage. LOTS to do close by. Or just hanging at the cabin was great too. Campfire on the rocky beach. Great place to take a walk and follow the Flute Reed river. I would highly recommend this cabin. Nothing fancy but very cozy.
This is an awesome find, right on the water. It has everything you need and the Lacy's (and Charlie and Rusty) are awesome hosts. They made sure we had every amenity we needed and Marcia gave us good local information. The location on Chicago Bay is fabulous. It's very private and secluded and not touristy like some other areas. It's fabulous for a romantic getaway or for a quiet weekend away from the rat race (we enjoyed relaxing and not thinking about work at all!). We greatly enjoyed our stay and will come again!
I cannot say enough about how thankful and grateful I am to have found this wonderful place and to have been able to bring my dog along! What was initially to be my first exciting road trip with my two goldens turned into a beautiful place to grieve the loss of one of them the day before we left. I cannot say how much I appreciate having found this place and Marcia! Marcia is the most wonderful person and she helped me through the weekend and Charlie helped my Jack! We spent lazy mornings going for walks, afternoons enjoying drives up to Grand Portage and down to Grand Marais, and beautiful evenings by the lake shore and even enjoyed a full moon on our last night. It's absolutely everything you need and you can do as little or as much as you want. I have already rebooked for September for Jack and I to make the journey again. I wish it could be sooner! I hope everyone enjoys their stays this summer as much as I did!! Blessings!! :)
Had a great stay at the Chicago Bay Hideaway! I know I will be back! Friendly, helpful owners, extremely comfortable bed, perfect cabin, the BEST coffee ever :) Loved being on the big lake and had so much fun exploring the area with my dog, who really enjoyed herself! Can't wait to return!
