About Paul Weiss
Se habla español. I spend my time traveling, writing, and producing documentary videos to help make the world a better place for children. Nature and photographing it are big interests. And when I'm at the chalet, hiking twice weekly with a local hiking group. Life is good! And I take being your host very seriously. I and my professional staff spend a lot of time making sure the chalet is clean, safe, comfortable and … spectacular.
Paul Weiss purchased this Chalet in 2001
Why Paul Weiss chose Mariposa
On my very first visit, I was stunned by the beauty of Yosemite and this entire area. That reaction continues today. This is one of the most beautiful areas on the planet and being able to share it with friends and family for so many years has given me a lot of joy. Now I get to share it with new friends, my guests. And what guests we have! From all over the world ... and all in love with nature. These are the folks who are going to save the planet!
What makes this Chalet unique
Being so close to the beauty of Yosemite and the Sierra National Forest is everything! And at almost 4,000' elevation, our cooler chalet is a great plus in Mariposa's warm summers. I love to hike, enjoy good food and curl up on my favorite chair in the Great Room with a good book. Just being quiet in the presence of nature's majesty can be very healing. And being surprised by a deer or the whirring wings of a humming bird ... or looking up at night and seeing a billion stars ... all quite wonderful. And, when the mood strikes - and it often does - slipping a tango CD into the stereo and moving slowly across the dance floor as the music invades every pore of my body ... aaaaahh. What a wonderful world!

Beautiful setting in the foothills- comfortable home for family get away.
Our family of six enjoyed the cozy, open living area- and the large front deck- during the day and night- star gazing and owls hooting. Kitchen was well equipped with appliances/utensils- what we needed to prepare our meals and eat well! The shower heads were a bit funky- but improved with use.
6people of my family stayed at this beautiful Starlit Chalet. Debbie was so nice by her kind messages so I had no worries about check-in. Starlit Chalet was super clean, and there was everything we need during our stay. We had great time. I will never forget the starry sky!!! Thank you Debbie and Paul:)
And thank you Haruko for being a great guest. We want our guests to be comfortable and feel they are cared for and it looks like it worked again. We can't manage the stars but we never forget their divine presence either. They'll be here on your next visit!
Beautiful remote location, yet accessible to Yosemite!
My family very much enjoyed our stay in your home. The turkeys in the yard were a daily treat.
When you left, the turkeys hung around for hours waiting for their daily birdseed. Very sad to see. Please, come back soon!
Secluded base for Yosemite and Mariposa
My kids and I really enjoyed the stay at the Starlit. It's peaceful, secluded, and a perfect jumping off point to get to Yosemite, the Mariposa Sequoia grove, and the town of Mariposa. The house has everything one could want. We really enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the birds (including a squadron of turkeys!). The bird book on the coffee table helped us identify the rest. Even though it was a full moon, we had a good view of the stars (and got a picture of Jupiter and its moons).
More good words from another 5-star family of guests at Starlit Chalet. You make all the hours of preparing for your visit worthwhile. All the turkeys and birds and the other critters hidden in the trees say, "Thank you, please come again!”
Vacationing in Yosemite
We had a lovely stay at Starlit Chalet starting with a warm welcome from the property manager, Debbie. The house was clean and tidy and the surrounding area was beautiful. We went to Yosemite every day so did a fair bit of driving but the house is located almost equidistant between the El Portal and Fish Camp entrances making both accessible. This is a great place to stay to explore Yosemite!
It makes our day, well, our whole week, when our guests appreciate our efforts to make their stays memorable! And great guests make it all come together. Thank you!
Really charming location
Really loved the location, probably even more than the crowded Yosemite. It was nice to meet Paul and Debbie in person as well. The weather wasn’t star-friendly but we do hope to get there some time in the future when the sky is clear.
Gold-panning, Zipline, Argentine tango lessons (when Paul is in town), 3 golf courses in area, including one in Yosemite
