Welcome to Lachland! This 5 bedroom home has been a beloved family vacation home for 4 generations. Lachland is located on Tonche Mountain, a privately owned mountain on a private, gated road. The estate encompasses over 40 acres and is surrounded by many hundreds more of private and conserved land. You will experience spectacular mountain and reservoir views from the porches and bedrooms, and nature walks that begin the moment you step outside. The gracious 3000 square foot home easily contains and entertains a large family or friends group. Very comfortably sleeps 13 guests, with additional space for squeezing a few more in. Guest house sleeps 6. New this year are 2 "glamping" options, rustic outbuildings buildings--a quirky, cheap option. The house began life as a barn in the late 1800's, it was converted to a hunting lodge in the early 20th century by Senator Walton, the previous owner. It has been in our family since the late 1940's, when the hunting lodge was converted once again to a family home. The original hand-hewn barn beams are still visible in much of the house. The decor has charming vintage appeal with many original details. Bedrooms include: the master bedroom suite with a king sized bed, private bathroom and dressing area, the all season 'sleeping porch' that is great for kids or families with 5 twin beds, the green room with 2 twin beds, the blue room with 2 full beds, and the sunrise room which has a king sized bed (custom built raised bed to witness the sunrise, truly awe-inspiring). Vintage 1950's kitchen is well equipped and has large modern appliances. You'll be ready for everything from a 9-course-from-scratch dinner to Chinese take-out. The dining room is directly adjacent to the kitchen and has seating for up to 17 on a lovely antique banquet table. Many of our guests have commented how wonderful and rare it is to be able to sit down together at one table. A large living room makes it easy to reconnect with family and friends over a game, a lively conversation or a movie. A stately Steinway piano, circa 1893, adds to the fun. The loving room is part of the original barn structure, and maintains a rustic elegance. Lounging on the wide open porch and soaking up the spectacular views is a required activity. 3 bathrooms ensure plenty of room. You will have access to basic household items such as dish soap, paper towels, aluminum foil, etc, to make your vacation seamless. House linens are provided. Explore the grounds and be taken in by the sweeping lawn, rock formations and rolling fields that surround the house. Spend a lovely evening at the stone fire pit, roasting marshmallows and watching the fireflies. Make sure the kids visit our fairy house, a favorite of the Lachland children. Perhaps the best feature of the house is the vista of the surrounding mountains and the Ashokan Reservoir. The open porch and raised stone patio allow for breathtaking views, and many of the bedrooms have excellent views also. Large picture windows in the living room, dining room, and kitchen ensure that you'll have great scenery inside the house too. A unique getaway in a truly beautiful area. Adorable 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom guest house, originally a writer's cottage built in the 1920's, also available during May-Nov, PLEASE NOTE: additional fees apply for guest house. Main house sleeps 13, guest house sleeps 6. Please contact owners with any questions, we are more than happy to assist you. We do allow large events, please inquire.

A well-maintained property in a wonderful picturesque location
We spent a couple of days on this property. A breathtaking, scenic location; very quiet. Spacious house with enough rooms for a large gathering. Well stocked kitchen, with plenty of pots, pans, plates, glasses and utensils. Very clean house, incl. restrooms. Multi-zone temp controls worked very well during winter time. Very quick and responsive caretaker, prompt replies to our questions. Plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities; the view from the house is just spectacular. Would stay there again.
Great for large groups!
If you're looking for a place to host a large family gathering, look no further. We hosted our large extended family for Thanksgiving. Twelve of us stayed at the house, and we cooked and served Thanksgiving dinner for 23 people.
Here's what you should know:
-Very clean..spotless kitchen and baths!
-Kitchen: Cool and vintage. They have everything! Really.
-Great appliances. Two coffee makers! Extra fridge in the garage.
-Plenty of hot water. Pressure is good. And you can drink the tap water (tastes great).
-The dining room really seats 17, and there are enough dishes and utensils to serve 25 people.
-The beds are very comfortable. The one king is quite elevated. I needed a little stool to climb up.
- The "master bath" is accessible through the dressing room/hallway (as opposed to the bedroom), so it's easy to share it with others (which was very convenient for us).
-There were more than enough linens and towels.
-The directions to the house are perfect. All of our guests found the house without difficulty.
-The house was warm/comfortable. We had the coldest Thanksgiving since 1901 (single digits) and were toasty warm inside. Also, the gas fireplace gave us some additional heat.
-The piano in the living room is in very good condition and sounds like it has been tuned recently.
-Livingroom furniture is super comfortable, and the room accommodates over a dozen people.
-Satellite TV was good...we were able to watch all of the football games. Good selection of channels, too.
-No Wi-Fi, but decent cell signal (at least for those of us on Verizon Wireless).
-Plenty of parking.
-We didn't have children with us, but there are tons of toys and games.
Pictures cannot convey the true beauty of Lachland and its surroundings. We viewed beautiful sunrises each day and a full beaver moon on Thanksgiving night. We walked up the mountain road and took in the landscape, views of Overlook Mountain, and the Ashokan Reservoir.
We're looking forward to our next visit!
Our family thoroughly enjoyed the breathtaking views as well as the charming large old house
We had plenty of room to sleep relax and enjoy family meals around a very large table that seated 20+ people. All bedrooms are upstairs and have views of the sunrise, sunset, surrounding landscape and the Ashokan reservoir which were very inspiring! The property had walking & hiking trails yet was nearby to shopping in the charming town of Woodstock. The property manager was only a phone call away & available to assist us as needed. We definitely recommend this VRBO to our friends or to anyone else who is looking to enjoy time away from hustle and bustle! We
would consider staying here again in the future. Thanks so much.
Great place for our family of 12.supplied everything you needed and more.loved the big table.very clean and beds were comfortable
The photo's do not do this splendid propert justice. You have to see it for yourself.
Our stay was in the 1st week of Sept. The capacity is 19 with the guesthouse. Our group was 19. This property is solely designed for comfort. 19 of us and we all easily felt at home the day we arrived. Large kitchen with large dinning room and dinning table with a splendid view. 5 bedrooms in the main house, 2 full bathrooms upstairs and never did any of us feel crowded. A living room with a gas fireplace and piano. The porch is huge, they even have a hammock and dinner bell to call in all your friends and family who are out wandering the wonderful forest on the property. Outside there is a fireplace, we had a dozen people surrounding a warm fire singing and conversating late into the night.
Tamanny is very experienced and loves to accommodate. Our group really didn't require much because everything necessary for a large group to be comfortable and fully enjoy what the Catskills has to offer was there. But she was always checking to see if we did need anything and how we were doing.
This house welcomed our group and came alive for 5 days. Great food, laughter, conversation, music, nature and fellowship. The memories of our stay here will last a lifetime. And I am certain they will for anyone else who stays here as well.
Beautiful views from the wrap around porch
This was a terrific house for our group of 8 adults. Lots of beds and all the amenities. It is very private and has gorgeous views of the hills and Ashokan Reservoir.
