5 bedrooms, 3 baths, views galore! Plus 3 bedroom guest house available May-Nov.
Welcome to Lachland! This 5 bedroom home has been a beloved family vacation home for 4 generations. Lachland is located on Tonche Mountain, a privately owned mountain on a private, gated road. The estate encompasses over 40 acres and is surrounded by many hundreds more of private and conserved land. You will experience spectacular mountain and reservoir views from the porches and bedrooms, and nature walks that begin the moment you step outside. The gracious 3000 square foot home easily contains and entertains a large family or friends group. Very comfortably sleeps 13 guests, with additional space for squeezing a few more in. Guest house sleeps 6. New this year are 2 "glamping" options, rustic outbuildings buildings--a quirky, cheap option. The house began life as a barn in the late 1800's, it was converted to a hunting lodge in the early 20th century by Senator Walton, the previous owner. It has been in our family since the late 1940's, when the hunting lodge was converted once again to a family home. The original hand-hewn barn beams are still visible in much of the house. The decor has charming vintage appeal with many original details. Bedrooms include: the master bedroom suite with a king sized bed, private bathroom and dressing area, the all season 'sleeping porch' that is great for kids or families with 5 twin beds, the green room with 2 twin beds, the blue room with 2 full beds, and the sunrise room which has a king sized bed (custom built raised bed to witness the sunrise, truly awe-inspiring). Vintage 1950's kitchen is well equipped and has large modern appliances. You'll be ready for everything from a 9-course-from-scratch dinner to Chinese take-out. The dining room is directly adjacent to the kitchen and has seating for up to 17 on a lovely antique banquet table. Many of our guests have commented how wonderful and rare it is to be able to sit down together at one table. A large living room makes it easy to reconnect with family and friends over a game, a lively conversation or a movie. A stately Steinway piano, circa 1893, adds to the fun. The loving room is part of the original barn structure, and maintains a rustic elegance. Lounging on the wide open porch and soaking up the spectacular views is a required activity. 3 bathrooms ensure plenty of room. You will have access to basic household items such as dish soap, paper towels, aluminum foil, etc, to make your vacation seamless. House linens are provided. Explore the grounds and be taken in by the sweeping lawn, rock formations and rolling fields that surround the house. Spend a lovely evening at the stone fire pit, roasting marshmallows and watching the fireflies. Make sure the kids visit our fairy house, a favorite of the Lachland children. Perhaps the best feature of the house is the vista of the surrounding mountains and the Ashokan Reservoir. The open porch and raised stone patio allow for breathtaking views, and many of the bedrooms have excellent views also. Large picture windows in the living room, dining room, and kitchen ensure that you'll have great scenery inside the house too. A unique getaway in a truly beautiful area. Adorable 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom guest house, originally a writer's cottage built in the 1920's, also available during May-Nov, PLEASE NOTE: additional fees apply for guest house. Main house sleeps 13, guest house sleeps 6. Please contact owners with any questions, we are more than happy to assist you. We do allow large events, please inquire.

It was the perfect place for what was probably the best thanksgiving/family reunion we've ever had. Lots of room but it still feels very cozy. Beds very comfortable and lots of them. The super cool kitchen is straight out of a 1950's custom kitchen catalogue, but has modern stove/fridge and enough plates, dishes, cups and glasses for multiple meals with a big family. I think this place has one of the best views in the Hudson Valley. The only bad thing was that the pictures on this site don't do the views and the house interior justice. Great vibe this house has and we plan on booking it again for future get-togethers and maybe even our wedding.
Wow, that is so great to hear! Glad you had a fantastic holiday weekend. Thanks for visiting Lachland, and for being such great guests.
A Catskills with friends weekend getaway dream house come true
We loved everything about the house. The views, the garden, the adjacent woods, the outside fire pit, the proximity to Woodstock and spectacular hikes but also the house itself, from the American 50s retro style, the flow of the first floor, the sheer size, the comfort of the rooms, the kids playroom (and its toys) and the magnificent dining and living rooms.
The house feels immediately homey and comfortable and the pre-stocking helps settle in within minutes.
Our friends had varying experiences about renting houses in the area but were all seduced by Lachlan.
We will be back !
Two suggested areas of focus for the owners:
1. A modern and high capacity dishwasher (to match the new fridge)
2. The house is set next to a road, albeit private, and whilst traffic is light kids cannot be left alone running in the garden immediately outside the house. We recommend some sort of light fencing to create a secure zone, that combined with the rest of the garden would create an amazing play area for kids
I don't even know where to begin - my siblings and I, along with our families, gathered to celebrate our mom's memory and we could not have found a more magnificent location. We shared love and joy in a setting that was so breathtakingly beautiful we felt healed. This a house that is clearly a place of joy and love, and the owners go above and beyond to make sure their guests feel like family. Thank you for a magnificent weekend and we WILL be back!
Thank you for choosing Lachland for such a special time. What an incredible family you are!
Classic Catskills retreat in perfect location
We had extended friends and family for Memorial Day weekend to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday. Nice and secluded but convenient to Woodstock if you need supplies or want to go out to dinner. Huge house with tons of room and very well appointed. You can tell the family knows how to vacation. Can't wait to go back!
Beautiful & large open area, fast demage deposit refund
We have a group of 5 families staying at this property during the week of President's week. It's about 45min drives to Hunter Mt & Windham Mt. The look from outside is gorgeous. Kids are having fun playing sled outside of the house when there was snow. But the house is not as new & big as shown in pictures. The kitchen, living room, and all bedrooms are kinda old. Our kids thank me for renting a "creepy" house because the living room is kinda dark and old. However, the owner is 100% responsive. When I asked about the damage deposit refund, the owner did it in 24 hours which is kinda of impressive compare with other owners. I would say if the owner can renovate the house a bit, it will be perfect.
everything was great!
We really enjoyed our stay.
Located in the stunning Hudson River Valley, Glenford is an easy 10 minute drive from Woodstock, also known 'the world's most famous small town'. Woodstock is a mecca for artists and the unusual. Make sure you plan to visit Woodstock, do some shopping, have a great meal, see a favorite band and enjoy the people watching--you won't be disappointed. Don't miss the community Drum Circle every Sunday 4-6 pm on the Village Green, all are welcome to join in! Nearby are world-class outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, fishing, nature walks, biking and skiing. Be sure to visit some of the charming local lighthouses that have been recently restored. For the indoor-inclined the area features top-notch restaurants, galleries, music and art happenings, and one of a kind boutique shopping. Many of the area restaurants feature truly local, organic and sustainable food sources, but a classic diner-esque burger and fries can be enjoyed too. The area is known for excellent eateries, and there are countless food styles to choose from. Many family-friendly and wallet-friendly activities to be found, fun can be had for the budget-minded as well the big spenders. The activities are too numerous to list but some of the area's renowned attractions include the annual Garlic Festival (self explanatory), Opus 41, (a six acre rock sculpture garden), Levon Helm's Midnight Rambles, (legendary music events featuring top musicians in an intimate setting), the incredibly popular Catskill Mtn Railroad antique train rides. Also check out what is going on at the Bearsville Theater, where surprisingly well-known artists love to come and perform. You will be provided with literature detailing area hot-spots and must-do's, although relaxing and taking in the spectacular mountain views with family and friends may end up being your favorite!
