This property is unique in many different wonderful and completely frustrating ways. As listed on the VRBO/HomeAway site this property is fabulous: location/location/location! Its architecture is beautiful, the setting is park-like and serene, and there is plenty of room for a large family group to stay together under one roof. It was the perfect place for our family of 6 adults to stay over a holiday weekend. We were very happy with our choice and would consider a repeat stay. For these reasons:5 stars.
That said, there is something very strange about the property. It is poorly kept just to minimal standards of cleanliness and lacking care so that some necessary maintenance items verge on being hazardous to renters. We had to have them bring in a smoke detector. One toilet feels like it is going to
fall apart as you sit. The lighting is not marked so it is difficult in such a large home with many steps to find the correct switch when needed. Some furniture feels like it will fall apart if you touch it the wrong way. The linens are poor quality and minimal. Towels are small, thin and worn. No top sheets, no extra blankets or pillows. The mattresses were okay but were covered in plastic so very noisy to sleep on. The kitchen is bare of even basics. The kitchen feels like it is used for catering only. Not enough silverware for 8. The dishes that were in the hutch in the eating area were the ones they told us to use but when we pulled them out they were filthy and we ditched that plan for paper plates (that we brought). We had considered cooking our Thanksgiving meal at this house with other family members from Sacramento but after trying to make a regular lunch there with difficulty we scratched that plan. For all of these maintenance/comfort reasons: 1 star.
I really don't know how to rate this property overall. If it weren't so expensive I could probably overlook the negatives a little more easily. If maintenance and comfort items are not attended to soon this property is going to become a total disaster. On the other hand, if someone with an eye for detail puts in some serious elbow grease, TLC, and money, well, then it's a different story. A conundrum on how to rate this property. Let the renter beware. Again, we would consider a repeat stay.
This house was a lovely surprise! We thought it looked promising from the photos and it was even nicer in person. Lots of space for three couples to comfortably spread out and roomy common areas to eat or hang out together. Great backyard area with several places to sit. It was a perfect home base for a fun weekend.
The house is beautiful, very large and comfortable to keep our whole family under one roof. Bedrooms, bathroom kitchen area very clean. The area is quiet, very close to shopping, cute little village near and with a park a nice little shops.
All that said , like stated on another review, property needs a spring cleaning, the BBQ grill needs to be replaced, knobs don't work, and it was pretty dirty . Linens were limited a couple of the beds did not have a top sheet. The kitchen is very basic, no serving dishes, pitcher or a baking dish. coffee filters. so if you are planning on entretaning, bring your own.
For the price, we expected to be a little better equipped, with the basics.
If we go back to Sacramento with a large group, we will return.
This was the perfect rental home for our family reunion. Close enough for local family to come and go. A beautiful spot to get together. For those of us from afar a great place to stay for three nights. The house and property was nicer than I imagined and it was described quite accurately. Indoors was spacious and well maintained and the back yard was nicely landscaped and furnished so there were several different areas for a small group to gather and visit. We ranged in age from 3 to 83 and it was fun and comfortable for everyone.
The manager was responsive and pleasant, welcoming us and explaining the property details. I would recommend this property to anyone and would certainly stay here again.
What a welcoming home for our family from Oklahoma. Out for a family wedding, the house easily provided room for 10 of us. In the evening deer would stroll through the spacious back yard and we'd wake up to wild turkey's rummaging through the flowers. The house was clean, appliances were wonderful, and the game room adds a relaxing touch. And don't forget the baby grand piano (how many vacation homes offer that?) The owners were gracious and professional. Easily a 5 star experience.
This home was beautiful and a perfect gathering place for a girls' weekend away. We enjoyed the house and backyard, as well as its close proximity to the river. Scott, the property manager, was very helpful and responsive. We were a bit disappointed that the advertised hot tub was not available for use and also by the lack of cookware available in the kitchen, as mentioned by other reviewers. However, we truly enjoyed our stay overall.
State capital tour, walk to American river over the bridge to great Starbucks patio. Close enough to ski in Tahoe, Salmon hatching operation, Wine county in 30 minute, few blocks small village with restaurants. American river trail, numbers of parks near by.
