Beautiful villa on the beach
We had a fantastic time. From arrival and meeting the staff to the meals. The villa was amazing. The pool was cool, the hot tub was hot. The staff were helpful. Victor and Javier were excellent cooks. Restaurant quality food! Fridge was always filled with ice cold drinks that we requested. They even made fun drinks for adults and alcohol free drinks for the kids!
The beach was a little rocky and the water shallow. Great snorkeling right off the beach. I tried to get in some open water swimming, but it's depth is variable. Lots of reefs/coral.
The area was amazing. A small resort town. The streets felt safe. 1.6mile in length so the runners in our group did intervals and had a great time in the mornings! There are 3 restaurants/bars within walking distance. (we rented a golf cart which made it much more pleasant!) La Lunita was easily reached by walking along the beach. La Buena Vida had a bigger bar with an amazing assortment of tequilas. Que Onda is really close as well but we never made it there. The akumal dive shop is about 1.2 miles on that same road. We went on fishing, diving and snorkeling trips through them and they were excellent. The Yal-Ku Lagoon is less than a 1/4 mile from the villa. Fantastic snorkeling there!
Worth every penny.
If there were half stars, I'd give it 4 1/2!
My extended family and our close friends loved Villa Bellamar! The chefs (Victor and Pablo) were great, and very accommodating to our specific tastes and allergies. We enjoyed eating out on the patio near the pool for every delicious meal (the guacamole and pico de gallo were amazing), although the dining chairs are quite uncomfortable, so we used pillows from the couches to make the seats more comfy.
The security guard, Jose was super helpful and friendly! We loved the grounds, and really enjoyed laying by the pool and on the beach. The snorkeling was absolutely amazing...we saw tons of fish and coral, plus a turtle, and some rays! Be sure to bring water shoes, because you need to walk over rocks and coral to get into the water. The enormous pool was super cold, (and rarely in the sun to warm it up) so the adults barely used it, but the kids braved the cold water most days! The kids loved the hot tub, although it took over an hour to get warmed up each day, and the filter didn't seem to be keeping it very clean. I did ask for help with this, and the staff worked on it immediately.
The bedrooms were very spacious, as were the bathrooms, although the showers were difficult to climb into for my 75 year old parents (super high bathtub sides)! I had a problem with a slow drain in the tub, and it was fixed the same day, thanks to Aurelio. The maids, Marta and Ana kept the rooms very clean, and worked around our teenagers who slept super late every day!
We also loved walking down the street to the little local shops and the restaurant/bar on the beach, La Buena Vida for some fun cocktails! We would definitely return to Akumal and Villa Bellamar in the future!
YES an Amazing Property---Better that the photos!
We held a 17 person yoga philosophy retreat there in early Dec.2017.
We were warmly greeted by Fernando & Wilma and shown around their beautiful estate. For the first day or 2 until we got the hang of it - he was very quick to answer any questions we had. In fact from the time I first inquired (Jan 2017) Fernando was always courteous to answer my numerous questions.
The rooms are large, easily accommodating 2-3 persons, and almost all the rooms had ocean views. The linens were fresh not overly bleached and changed every 2nd day.
There was plenty of usable space for various activities, at various times of day. We held "sunrise meditations" on the roof which offered amazing views, and if it slightly rained there was a teaching room large enough to host the program indoors. We mostly enjoyed the outdoors area on the property, the lounge areas, pool and evening hot tubs. The venue was clean clean clean! The Mexican speaking kitchen staff did their very best to accommodate our food requirements and I have to say the food was way better at the house than what we got when we went to neighborhood restaurants. I was glad to have a few students with us who spoke spanish -- to get us past a few language issues.
There is a lovely lagoon for snorkling just a 4 min walk from the house and you can swim right off the beach in front of the house as well or go kayaking. The area is SAFE - we even walked home at night after dinner without concern. We would definitely recommend this property and would use it again.
As for mosquito's - they are everywhere in Mexico but this house and garden is well maintained. So while we had a few who were slightly inconvenienced - bug spray was the answer! Thank you Fernando & Wilma for opening your stunning estate!
Our group had an excellent time at Villa Bellamar. We spent six nights there on a small yoga retreat, and the group is already discussing coming back again next year. One of our crew has even pitched it to another group doing a trip later this year, hoping to return even sooner!
The photos here are gorgeous, but the property, believe it or not, is even nicer in person than in the photos. The rooms are big, the beds are great, the common spaces are well situated and comfortable, and the outdoor space is just fantastic.
The staff were all incredibly helpful. We had a couple small issues crop up, and they were attended to quickly.
The food was delicious! If you have any special dietary needs in the group you'll travel with, make sure that you are extra clear in your menu planning with the executive chef. Our group had a few different dietary restrictions and we had a little mix up with two of the meals, which I take responsibility for; once I sat down with the executive chef again and we got on the same page everything was perfect. The two chefs on-site with us every day were talented, friendly, and extremely accommodating, and the food they made was top-notch.
If you like to snorkel, the reef just out from the beach was incredible. The entry just out from the resort is a little treacherous, so if you're less comfortable with the water you'll want to make sure that you have water shoes, or you can walk around the beach a few minutes to a sandier entry.
Long story short, it's a fantastic property, well-staffed, and you will absolutely enjoy your stay!
GREAT space for large groups
Villa Bellamar was by far the best place our company team has had our annual retreat. The staff is on point, with any requests no matter how small or grueling, Jose the night guard is especially keen to make sure our team had everything we needed. Everyone on the staff, from the owner, to the house managers - are incredibly responsive and accommodating. We had a large team of 33, and all of our organization from food, room assignments, internet needs, transportation, was taken into consideration before we even got to the house. Big props to Fernando who took care of all my questions and put me at ease. I would highly advice to add Chef Antonio and his team to the staff, the food they prepared was amazing and really saved us a lot of time - more time to take advantage of the pool, jacuzzi, and beach, along with the bartender!!! The house is close to a lot of external activities (golfing, cenote snorkeling, XPLOR adventure park, turtle beach right down the road). The location is ideal for those looking to relax within the home but not be too far from activities. Our team really REALLY enjoyed our stay here and are looking forward to coming back.
Great place to take kids
Property is amazing !! There were 23 of us including 8 kids under 6 and the house was perfect set up! Chef and bartender were amazing for the week and very accommodating! Food was good!
