Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-5)

Come to the mid-coast of Maine and step away from your everyday routine. Put your ‘indoor’ life aside while you relax and breathe-in the beauty and tranquility of Maine, out of doors.

This classic, ‘Wicked Cute,’ Maine camp is the perfect get-away to refresh your spirit. Simple and cozy, it provides just what you need – a worry free departure from the hustle and bustle.

But there is more to this camp than just the cabin. This vacation also has you living on a lake with your own private dock! Step outside and take in what Norton Pond has to offer – swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing, tanning, napping, relaxing. The adventures are yours for the making.

And your water adventures are not limited to Norton Pond. A waterway connects Norton Pond to the majestic Lake Megunticook, another premier Maine natural resource.

Should you decide to venture from the camp, you will find you are only minutes away from unique Maine attractions including the fabulous Maine coast and its many harbor towns. Camden, one of the most popular Maine coastal villages is only 10 minutes away. Besides the parks, views, dining, and shopping Camden offers, the city also grants you easy access to supplies such as groceries, fuel, laundrymats, etc.

There is also a convenience store nearby for essentials. They happen to carry what the locals consider the best pizza around! (And your hosts consider their breakfast sandwiches and hamburgers the best anywhere!).

Whether you are on your own, with your significant other, some friends, or with a couple kids in tow, this ‘wicked cute’ camp will be good for anything that might be ailing you. Come experience it!

Additional Information:

Sleeping Arrangements? There is one bedroom with a Queen-sized bed on the first floor. Two twin beds are upstairs in the loft. A futon in the living room makes a bed as well.

Bathroom? There is one bathroom with a sink, toilet, and hot water shower.

Bringing A Boat? There is a public boat launch on Norton Pond and your boat can be moored at your private dock. (Water skiing, tubing etc are allowed. However no single passenger powered vehicles are allowed such as Jet Skis). There is room to stow your boat trailer at the camp. (Please always check your boat carefully when moving it for any traces of plant life. Invasive plants are a danger to Maine's many wonderful bodies of water. Norton Pond's beauty depends on your diligence in this regard).

Bringing Bikes? The roads around Norton Pond are a combination of paved and gravel with very little traffic so the kids have some great options. The roads further out are standard, two-lane country roads – better reserved for the biking enthusiast.

Exercise? Relaxing is a great form of exercise for those of us needing to get away. But if you also want to get physical while you are at the camp swimming is an obvious choice. Running/Jogging/Walking is also an option. Roads around the Pond are low traffic and scenic – very much outdoors! And country roads further out will give you all the long distances you could want.

Pets? Pets are welcome (see our policy in the rental agreement). We do expect you to clean up after them though. This includes picking up anything they leave behind – whether on our property or on that of your neighbors on the Pond.

Things To Do? (Get ready - It's a long list!)

Enjoy birding, swimming, mountain climbing, hiking, beach walks, clamming, sight seeing, nature walks, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, biking, windjammer cruises and day sailing on schooners, golf, whale watch cruises, museums, shops, restaurants, galleries, wineries, concerts, art shows, auctions, island hopping, farmers markets. . . And this is only what we have come up with so far. . . .

Also:

Acadia National Park (1 1/4 hrs north)

L.L. Bean & Outlet shopping (1 1/2 hrs south)

Lobster Festival, Blues Festival, Windjammer Weekend,

Boat Shows

Sandy Lincolnville Beach, Lobster Pound and ferry to Islesboro (5 miles east to the coast)

About John Zacharias

Your hosts are two siblings and their spouses. (The picture shows brother and sister during one of their Maine adventures).

One couple lives in the Camden, Maine area and the other is from beautiful western Michigan. All of us have fallen in love with this part of Maine and are excited to share it with you.

John Zacharias purchased this cabin in 2010

Why John Zacharias chose MidCoast - Penobscot Bay

While our childhoods were spent in Minnesota and Michigan, our more recent experiences together have been here in Maine. Maine's climate is similar to that of our hometowns' so in many ways it reminds us of 'home.' As adults we have shared vacations here, reunions, and most recently a family wedding. With each visit Maine becomes more endearing. So endearing, in fact, that one of your host couples actually relocated to the area permanently a number of years ago.

This patch of land here in the 'mid-coast' of Maine lets you feel like you are getting away while still having so many things to do. Whether you want to be alone, be part of a crowd, or a little bit of both - you will reconnect with yourself, and each other, here.

What makes this cabin unique

Many of us at Norton Pond have our routines.

It may be waking up early and taking a fresh cup of coffee out to the dock to watch the day begin.

It may be putting on some cross trainers and taking a brisk walk to get the blood flowing.

You may see one of our neighbors take a daily swim - a routine she enjoys every day she is at Norton Pond, regardless of the temperature or time of year!

There are so many wonderful choices. . . What will your Norton Pond routine be? Whatever it is, be prepared to have it relax, refresh, and re-energize you!

Guestbook comments from the owner

This cute camp was perfect—even my visiting sister and brother agreed. It reminded us of our childhood camp experiences. Thank you. Also, the camp was better supplied than we were used to, a very pleasant surprise.

cozy relaxing retreat

  • 5 of 5

the cottage was just like in the pictures. Cute, cozy, rustic cottage feel on a beautiful calm lake. my husband and I enjoyed our morning coffee sitting on the dock in comfy chairs in the morning sun. The lake was big enough for water sports but was not busy and it was not buggy even being surrounded by woods. went to Camden, great variety of shops and took a cruise on the Appledore. Ate at Chez Michel-great seafood and primerib, Waterfront has great chowder, SeaDog brewery- great fish tacos and good food selection. mt. Battie has a great view and hiking trails. Acadia is worth the hour and half drive but get there early as it's a busy place. stopped off in Bar Harbor for lunch. every detail was thought of in this cottage. cooked on the grill and evening campfires. Loved the great view of the lake looking out from the cabin. so relaxing and would stay here again. can hear the unique sound of the loons at night. very peaceful and a great place to unwind.

Great getaway

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is adorable and the area of the pond is perfect - only gentle waves while we were there and lots of opportunity to explore the attached lake. We brought a paddle board and had a great time on it every day. The only drawback is there's no gentle entry into the lake for our dog - he could have jumped in off the dock but didn't have anywhere to easily climb out.

It doesn't get any better than this!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just spent a hugely enjoyable and idyllic week at the Wicked Cute Cabin on Norton Pond! We went kayaking right from our own private dock, we swam off the dock in the refreshing water, we gazed at stars from the chairs on the dock (you can see the Milky Way spread across the expanse of the sky!) while listening to the call of the loons and watching the lights from neighboring cabins twinkle on the water. We sat in the chairs under the shade of the trees enjoying the silence and beauty of the lake. We were there during the 4th of July celebrations and enjoyed private "surround sound" fireworks that echoed around the lake. The view of the fireworks from the middle of the lake was awesome! We invited friends and family for an evening barbecue at the outdoor picnic table and later toasted marshmallows to make s'mores around the campfire. One of our daughters and her husband joined us at the cabin for two nights. There was lots of space for all of us and our two dogs. The cabin is cozy, the beds comfortable, with all the conveniences of home. The kitchen is fully outfitted and got all the groceries we needed from the stores in Camden. There's lots to see and visit in the area, although it was hard to tear ourselves away from the lake and our cozy cottage. My husband went on hikes with our dog only a few miles from the cabin. We took a day trip to Acadia for lunch, a hike, and dinner. You won't find a better, more relaxing, or fun vacation spot than this! We'll be back!

Cozy cute

  • 5 of 5

We spent the last week of September and the first part of October at the Wicked Cute. Three glorious days of 70 degrees then a freak storm with 5+ inches of rain and ending the stay with a high temp of 50 degrees. Through in watching the blood moon eclipse over Norton Pond and that's was our adventure in a nutshell. The Camp was cozy comfortable for our stay and we loved the tranquility. The owners were great to work with and you won't be disappointed if you decide to stay here.

Loved It!

  • 5 of 5

Spent the week of July 4 at the Wicked Cute camp with our family of four (two adults and two tweens). The location was awesome. Norton Pond is stunningly beautiful, and the private dock makes it a great place to kayak, swim and fish. We rented kayaks from Duck Trap Kayak, and they were great to work with. Was surprised by how quiet Norton Pond was, even with it being the week of July 4. The location is 10 minutes from Camden, the harbor, quaint shops, and great restaurants. Also within 10 minutes are lots of hiking trails with amazing views overlooking the bay, the lake, and mountains. Had a great clam dinner at roadside stand at bottom of Mt Battie, lobster at Young's Lobster Pound and clam chowder at Cappy's.

The Owner is very pleasant and accommodating. Answered all of my questions very promptly. The cottage is quaint and comfortable. This was our first trip to Maine, and it was fantastic! Would love to go back again someday! And if we do, we're coming back to Wicked Cute camp!

Adorable and Small

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 10 days in September 2014. We can echo all the other reviews regarding the cottage and the variety of activities, restaurants and lobster pounds in the area, as we have been to Norton Pond many times. I would add that the cottage is lovingly and tastefully decorated in cottage colors-- coordinated fabrics and folkart-- adding to it's attractiveness. The kitchen, although small, is excellently stocked with cooking pots, utensils, serving dishes, and china. For us, the only negative would be the difficulty in housing more than 4 people comfortably (preferably 2 adults, 2 children) and entertaining more than 4 only because of the size. It worked perfectly for the 2 of us and we'd definitely return in the future. John, the owner, is very accomodating and a joy to work with, and his sister and brother-in-law next door were extremely helpful when we misplaced our house key. Having them nearby was a big plus.

Owner's Response: It is so good to hear from guests who love Norton Pond and The Wicked Cute Camp as much as we do. Thank you for taking the time to pass along your comments. We are set up for 4 guests - 2 in the queen bed downstairs and then 2 in the two twin beds in the loft.
