About the property

Darwin's Hearth has been standing in the heart of Downtown Frederick since Stonewall Jackson marched his troops through the town on their way to battle. Whether you are looking for a stroll through the area's rich history or a week's getaway in a super trendy little town, our little home is waiting to welcome you!

Our home is a completely renovated historic home within walking distance (2 blocks) of all downtown shops, restaurants and bars. Walk 2 blocks in the other direction and you'll stumble into Frederick's magnificent Baker Park that has a big playground for the kids, lovely strolls for the adults and free concerts every Sunday evening in the summer.

At Darwin's Hearth, we welcome your whole family including small children and even your small doggy if he or she knows about indoor rules!

As an added treat, with every rental of at least one week we'll throw in a free massage (either at our home or at the spa) by My Red Bow Spa in nearby Braddock Heights!

We know you'll love our home as much as we do and can't wait to welcome you into the warmth of our hearth and home!

About Christena

I grew up in the area and have lots of family nearby. We bought this lovely home to live in, but work has taken us away from the United States for a few years and while we can't enjoy our home, we would love for others to enjoy its quaintness, convenience and rich history.

Christena purchased this townhome in 2012

Why Christena chose Frederick

We bought the home quite simply because we fell in love with it!

Great space, great location!

  • 5 of 5

This townhouse was perfect for our family of 4's week long vacation. So much so that we ended up staying an extra day! It's a prime location just 1 block from Market St. in Frederick where there are countless cute shops, restaurants, and bars. It's also a prime location to visit several other nearby attractions. During our stay, we visited Harper's Ferry, Gettysburg, Lancaster, DC, Hershey Park, and several other small attractions all in less than 2 hour drive. The owner was very responsive and has an attentive welcome team that readily answered any questions/concerns that we had during our stay. Keeping budget in mind, the house is fully stocked with everything you need especially the kitchen and patio gas grill which enabled us to cook many of our meals at home. I would highly recommend!

Comfortable and cozy

  • 4 of 5

We were in Frederick for our daughter's wedding. We found the house to be charming and comfortable. We knew we would have family coming and going throughout the weekend, so we brought 4 folding chairs with us. You can comfortably fit 10 around the dining table. The kitchen had everything we needed except space in the cabinets for the things we brought with us. Once we gathered up all the plastic bags that others had stuffed in the cabinets , the situation improved drastically. We bundled up the bags and took them home with us to recycle. We did accidently lock ourselves out on the 2nd floor deck. I was showing my daughter and her finace's mother around. Fortunately, my adult son was in the room wih bunkbeds and he let us back in. The room with the bunkbeds has french doors. While it looks very charming and open, there is no privacy in that room at all.

We slept in the Master BR in the front of the house. We could hear the road noise but it didn't bother us. The house is air conditioned and sometimes too chilly. We kept trying to turn it up a bit. We ate breakfast twice out on the back patio and found it to be very peaceful, private and completely shaded by a large tree.

All in all we enjoyed our time at Darwin's Hearth.

Love it

We are a military family in transition to our new location in England and really appreciate you allowing us to bring our fur babies. Darwins Hearth is a beautiful home in a great location. Minus the street noise this was a perfect stay for us and would definitely stay again.

Great location and amenities.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Darwin's Hearth, here are the pro's and con's from our perspective. The property is well located, within walking distance to downtown shops, restaurants and Baker park. The Kitchen on the ground floor is spacious and well kept. The TV is located on the third floor which requires going up some steep and narrow stairs. It was also very hot in that room in summer, even with the air conditioning. Would have been great to have the TV on the ground floor. The house was in fairly good condition given it is an old property, however the couches in the living area could do with a clean, when we lifted up the cushions to look for a lost toy it was extremely dirty underneath. Overall we had a nice stay and would recommend this property to those looking for a furnished house in down town Frederick.
