A FEW LATE SUMMER–EARLY FALL WEEKS STILL AVAILABLE!
About Lee Watkins
Lee recently retired as Informatics Director for Johns Hopkins Genomics, Kathy is a retired medical social worker. We love to garden and to travel far and wide but love even more coming home to our beach house in Dewey - and now our garden is here and you can share in the bounty! This really is our vacation home and our favorite place so we come to Dewey Beach every chance we get.
Lee Watkins purchased this House in 2010
Why Lee Watkins chose Rehoboth by the Sea
Our families have been coming to the Rehoboth area for generations, but we looked for a place at the beach for over 10 years before we found and fell in love with SeaGarden Cottage - the beach house of our dreams. Dewey Beach is the prototypical beach town, two blocks wide with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and Rehoboth Bay on the other. There are dozens of restaurants from coffee shops to pizza (Grotto, Mama Celeste's) to Thai to fresh local food & craft beer (Dewey Beer & Food Co.) to gourmet dining (Two Seas) and delicious American fare (Woody's Cafe). Anything you can't find is just a mile away in Rehoboth - including the world-class Blue Moon and Back Porch restaurants, sushi on the roof at The Cultured Pearl, and the original Dogfish Head brewpub! There are many watering holes like the world-famous Starboard and the best live-music scene of any Atlantic Coast beach town (the Bottle & Cork just can't be beat!). There are several beach supply shops, a marina where you can rent a boat (can also rent jet-skis at Ruddertowne) or put in your own boat, and just down Rt. 1 is the Old Inlet Bait & Tackle that has absolutely everything for fishing (including a rod/reel repair shop), crabbing and clamming. Whether you love reading on the beach all day or shopping at the tax-free outlets or taking the kids to a water park or spending evenings on the Boardwalk (personally, I've never lost my love of Skee-Ball), or board-sailing the back bay or surfing or skim-boarding the ocean waves, or taking in an incredible live music show at the one & only Bottle & Cork or a delicious meal and a great beer at Dewey Beer & Food Company or a truly fine meal following drinks on the roof deck at Two Seas or fishing for that big striped bass from the jetty at Indian River Inlet (or drifting for flounder on the sandy flats of the bay or from the fishing pier in Lewes) or just collecting shells on the beach, it's ALL here within a stone's throw of SeaGarden Cottage!
What makes this House unique
SeaGarden Cottage is cozy and comfortable but there's plenty of room so it never feels cramped - a beach cottage that lives big! It has space enough for eight yet is small enough to feel like a private retreat for two. SeaGarden Cottage a true original that has been been lovingly maintained and gracefully updated. At SeaGarden you can park your car and not have to get in it again until you leave (unless you want to, of course). You can walk out the front door in the early morning and stroll down the wide beautiful beach then stop in for breakfast and great coffee at Baked or at the old-school diner Sunrise (friendly cheap and plenty) or at the Fifer Orchards market down the street (where you can also pick up some gourmet groceries, fresh veggies, fruit or flowers). Walk down to the corner and jump on the open-air Jolly Trolley to do some shopping (and, perhaps, buying) or just check out the Boardwalk. Walk the other way towards the bay and put your kayak in at the cute little Read St. park while your kids play on shore. Drop into Dewey Beer & Food Co. for a craft beer and delicious lunch or dinner - it's right across the street from SeaGarden Cottage in the beach block! We love picking fresh tomatoes and peppers right outside the back door all summer. We love riding our bikes to Fifer Orchards market and into Rehoboth for dinner. We love walking hand-in-hand to take in a free music festival at the Rusty Rudder entertainment complex... and then walking home through the cool ocean breezes late that night. We love the laid-back Dewey Beach attitude - 'It's a way of life!'

second time staying here and it was the perfect location for our family, and dog.
Great trip, great place!
Overall we were incredibly happy with the cottage! Great location, so well stocked (they thought of everything!!), adorable, Cozy and charming! We would totally rent again! If I had to give any feedback it would be that at times the cottage felt damp (could have been bc we had a ton of rain?) and I would add a bit more comfy furniture to the living room, otherwise perfection!!! Thank you!!!
Thanks Melissa, it definitely seems to be monsoon season! It is a very old cottage -- original part dates to the 1930's -- built on a concrete slab, so when the ground saturated (like it has been lately) it could feel slightly damp. There is a setting on the Nest thermostat for just drying the air when it's humid (not usually a problem when the A/C is running, which takes humidity out of the air, but it may not have been hot enough outside), I should mention that in my usage notes! Also, thanks for the feedback on the furniture, yes we picked it more for durability than comfort (since we rent mostly to families - with jumping kids and dogs! not to mention our own grandchildren...) and we struggle with how to keep the living room from feeling too crowded. That being said, we do plan to replace it (at least the couch) with a larger L-shaped sofa that should be much more comfortable!
Great house close to the beach!

Perfect beach cottage!
We come back every year to the Sea Garden Cottage for "Greyhounds Reach the Beach". We love the location and the set up of the cottage is perfect for our little group of ladies and greyhounds.

Another great stay at SeaGarden!
The house is in a great location and as always very clean and well maintained. The house is stocked with everything you need for a week at the beach. Lee and Kathy clearly take pride in ensuring their guest have a great place to stay on vacation.
Usually 2 beach chairs and 2 bikes available. Dewey is the skimboard capital of the mid-Atlantic! Boards and lessons (inc. free clinics) available from Alley Oop Skim or East Of Maui Surf Shop. Excellent in-shore bay (flounder, croaker, spot) and nearby pond fishing (bass), as well as beach (blues, kingfish), ocean (striped bass) and deep-sea fishing (marlin, tuna).
