Everything we could have asked for!

  • 5 of 5

The Herb Cottage suited our needs so perfectly. We were looking for an affordable, convenient getaway to help us through this fickle, delayed Spring transition, so it was important we be somewhere that would supply enough of its own fulfilling charm and relaxation should weather not be on our side. Luckily both sides of the equation worked out! We opted to save money on a rental car and took the NYC Trailways bus into downtown Woodstock. Its about a 10-15 minute hike slightly uphill to the cottage but very straight forward and endurable if you are accustomed to walking like us city folk. A Lyft got us home late from dinner one night, and to and from the entry to Overlook Mountain, which we hiked for the majestic view. We had a great time exploring downtown Woodstock, and could easily get back and forth with our rations to the cottage, which was lovely to snack/lounge/read in next to a fire in the wood-burning stove. Tea selection was great, bed comfortable, and the clawfoot tub a treat following our mountain climb. We have long wanted to watch the NYT crossword documentary, which was one of numerous DVDs for various occasions in the extensive collection available to guests. All communication with the proprietors was pleasant and helpful, they answered all our questions promptly and honestly. Most importantly, us history-loving librarians loved learning about original owner Anita Smith and exploring her book collection. It truly felt like we were getting a taste of the old-school Woodstock flavor. We would love to come back!

Great cottage getaway in Woodstock

  • 5 of 5

We had a great experience staying at the cottage as part of a weekend getaway from NYC. Woodstock offers some great farm-to-table restaurants, is close to skiing, and is quite quaint. The cottage was very clean, was as advertised, and we esp. loved the wood-burning stove. Judy was perfectly responsive and attentive.

Perfect weekend getaway from NYC

  • 5 of 5

We booked this lovely cottage during a snowy weekend and it was cozy, charming, and rejuvenating. The wood burning stove is a beautiful touch. It has great access to town and the surrounding parks and I would recommend to anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors with a comfortable and romantic home to retreat to. Will hopefully be back!

A cozy winter retreat, close to town but where you can escape from it all too!

  • 5 of 5

The Herb Cottage proved to be the perfect place for two busy Library directors to shake off 2017 and welcome in 2018! We finally got a chance to read!! And watch movies from the huge and amazingly alphabetized DVD collection! The cottage is steeped in history yet met all of our modern needs! As vegans we were able to buy plenty of provisions from the local natural foods grocery and we loved the Garden Cafe so much we ate there twice! Despite frigid temps, we found both our accommodations and the town to be cozy and warm. This first trip to Woodstock and the Herb Cottage won’t be our last!

Second Stay at the Herb Cottage This Year

  • 5 of 5

Our (husband and wife from NYC, both retired) experience at the Herb Cottage was so pleasant last March that we decided to return for four days in December. The cottage is ideally located for exploring the Catskills and Woodstock. The cottage was clean, comfortable and well and thoughtfully stocked. The staff found a watch we had accidentally left behind and are returning it to us. In short, highly recommended.
