Newly completed (summer 2012) and fully furnished garage apartment with lovely natural light; comfortably sleeps 4 (queen bed in loft + queen futon in living room). Kitchen with all the essentials plus a few non-essentials.

Great location in the heart of 78704; convenient access to downtown Austin, South Congress, Austin-Bergstrom airport, Zilker Park and more.

We've been living in Austin since the late 90's and have loved it thoroughly, even through its growing pains. Both of us are UT alumni.

Why Dan Burton / Erin Feil chose South Lamar

You'll see bumper stickers all over town saying, "78704 - it's not just a zip code, it's a way of life." We've been incredibly happy here in the main house since 2005, and built the garage apartment with the intention of renting it out in 2012.

This area has hung onto it's laid back attitude, but it's full of activity - parks, bars, greenbelts, springs, restaurants, stimulating events, weird art, big trees, live music - all within walking/biking distance? A way of life, indeed.

What makes this apartment unique

The garage apartment was a dream to build. We lucked out with an excellent architect who's wife is an interior designer, and we couldn't be happier with the experience working with them, as well as the final result.

We wanted a slick, modern, simple space that was open, breezy, and full of natural light - that's exactly what we got, and we continue to enjoy sharing it with travelers.

The Woodlands

Great Austin Apt

The apt has everything needed for a great weekend in Austin; located in a great area of town, with many places to walk. A ride to downtown on Lyft or Uber is only a few bucks, so that was too easy! Dan and Erin were very helpful in sharing details for places to go and they provide a long list of places within walking distance (take their advice on the pizza from ABGB - Yum!). Erin is a yoga instructor and offered a private class for us in the apt, which we gladly accepted. Adding some yoga to our weekend allowed for that extra slice of pizza at ABGB without guilt. The ladder to the loft was a little scary for me, so we opted for the futon, and it was super comfy. One mention is there are no window coverings on any of the windows, so when sleeping on the futon, be aware that the morning sun will smack you in the face pretty early. And if you are modest about people seeing you in your pj's, then maybe consider full coverage pj's for this trip.

Great hosts, great property, great location!

As a first time vacation rental user I wasn't certain what to expect so I had done a lot of research, which paid off. All of the other reviews of this property were totally correct & painted a very accurate picture of what to expect. Additionally the pictures give a very good indication of what you will find at their property & the reality was even more positive.

Dan & Erin are wonderful hosts & while I didn't have any issues, they made sure that I knew they would be available to address them if I had. They have built & outfitted their property pretty much perfectly for almost any trip by any small group to Austin. I loved the setup & the décor, very sleek & modern, totally functional & efficient while simultaneously also very attractive. The large plentiful windows provide a unique stay experience & are an excellent touch. Also, they are one more example of Dan & Erin's attention to detail as they are tinted enough that while you have a good amount of light & that airy open feel, you aren't worried about excess sunshine or heat.

The central location was perfect for my & I imagine most other trips to Austin. I went several places during my stay & it was always convenient to get where I was going.

In conclusion, I'd happily recommend this property to anyone considering a trip to Austin and would happily choose to stay here again for any trips there I might have in the future.

This was the most adorable apartment! There were 5 of us and it was the perfect size. Erin and dan were also great! So nice and accommodating. If I ever need a place to stay in Austin again I will definitely be staying here!

ACL weekend

Very nice apartment with modern furnishings. Owners provided many amenities in case you forgot something. CVS and tons of eateries (Gourdough's Public House is a must!) and shopping also within walking distance. It was kind of a hike to Zilker Park where the festival was, but wasn't terrible. And of course owners were very helpful and hospitable. We would definitely come back and stay. But wouldn't recommend more than 4 people for stay.

Clean, comfortable & convenient!

This place rates highly in my book. I come to Austin for work and enjoy the personal touch of home rentals as opposed to hotels. I have stayed in a number of homes in Austin and Casa Thornton rates at the top of my list. The amenities are perfectly considered and executed. Surrounded by great places within walking or biking distance. The hospitality from Dan & Erin is one I will keep coming back for.

Sweet Garage Condo nestled in South Austin

It was so fun staying in this apartment.

When we arrived we were met by Dan & Erin who quickly showed us around, gave us some local eating suggestions, and then left us to settle in. Our first impression - this place is FUN - architecturally pleasing, tastefully decorated, and clean.

Pros -

Location. Excellent for cruising around eclectic South Austin. Close in to pretty much everything that makes Austin cool. As mentioned - really well appointed. Usable kitchen, incredible bathroom/shower setup, fun loft bedroom, nice furnishings.

Cons -

Stairs. If you have a problem with them, this may not be the place for you. You climb stairs to get into the apartment, climb again to gain access to the loft bedroom.

Overall? We loved it. The only real "con" for us was that we had to check out the next day. Definitely planning a return visit!
