Description

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday cabin in Hatfield - Buckhorn Lake Cabin

4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Convertible bed(s), Sleeps 11

Buckhorn Lake Cabin is a beautiful, log cabin built by my husband, and surrounded by pine trees and large wrap-around deck with view of Buckhorn Lake, a quiet, no-wake lake. The cabin is officially designated a no-stress zone. The 2,200-foot cabin sleeps 11, and has two full baths. It’s heritage living, but with all the amenities of home including dishwasher, microwave, jacuzzi, stone fireplace, heat, and air conditioning. The perfect place to get reacquainted with family, friends, nature and you. So grab some floats and tubes and jump into the lake, sunbathe, read on the deck, play music and board games in front of the stone fireplace, engage in a ping-pong tournament in the family room, create a great meal and enjoy one another, relax by the fire pit and roast some marshmallows, ice fish, cross country ski or take a walk and look at the stars or the wildlife.

Offically Designated No Stress Zone: The cabin is perfect for a romantic weekend, family gatherings, women’s or men’s get-togethers and spiritual or business retreats. Or come for a solo retreat and stoke-up your batteries. Located one mile from Hatfield, Wisconsin and 11 miles from Black River Falls, Wisconsin, the area looks like the “North Woods,” just closer! The cabin is approximately 2 1/2 hrs. from Minneapolis and Saint Paul, 3 hrs. from Milwaukee, 4 1/2 hrs. from Chicago, 2 hrs. from Madison, 1 hr and 15 minutes from the Dells. One mile away is Lake Arbutus, an 839-acre lake with boat and jet-ski rentals, boat ramps, picnic areas, beaches and playgrounds and an indoor roller skating ring. Discover treasures at the local Flea Market/Craft Show.

Great recreation on site or near by: There are loads of recreational activities available during all four seasons without ever having to get into your car. Just walk out the front door. Buckhorn Lake is across our road and is connected to a canal, linked to other lakes and the Black River. You can canoe, kayak, swim, fish, bike (we have a canoe, two-person kayak and bikes on site) and cross country ski or snowshoe for hours without ever having to get in your car. So throw your car keys away for a while and technology (if you can) and get to know your spouse, family and/or friends or even yourself better.

Don't worry about bad weather: Majestic Pines Casino is nearby, as is a affordable movie theater and antiquing and an affordable fitness center which includes a swimming pool/whirlpool and dry sauna; fitness room ,gymnasium 2 racquetball courts, and a 125 meter suspended walking/running track available. An indoor and outdoor water park is just 1/2 hr away.

About Leah Dobkin

My husband, with a little help from me, my son and some friends, built our log cabin over a two- year period. We bought the ten-inch logs from a local man who builds log cabins and owns a lumberyard. The logs were harvested from this man’s sustainable forest. We tried to incorporate recycled and reused materials as well as new green products, such as radiant-heat bamboo flooring. We are just starting to rent the cabin. We hope to find vacationers that will respect and appreciate all the hard work that went into creating the log cabin. We are told by family and friends that the place has wonderful karma. I am a writer and over a one-month period, I wrote a book at the cabin, which will be published shortly. My husband renovates old properties and sells or rents them and is an energy auditor.

Leah Dobkin purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Leah Dobkin chose Wisconsin

We bought land here because we wanted a place that we can get to for the weekend that wasn't a long drive, but looked like the North Woods. We have had a camper on the property for a number of years, and have spent wonderful times in the region. We can share information about great hiking trails, where to eat and shop etc. The Black River region is not as well-known as the “North Woods,” but it is closer, less congested and beautiful. My husband loves to come up just to smell the pines and watch the wildlife. We hope you will love the region too!

What makes this cabin unique

There are so many choices of activities to do without getting in your car. It's so nice to drive-up and stay put. We try to keep the place a no electronic zone, although it is not easy. When we do however, we end-up reading more, playing cards and enjoy quiet thinking time, which is often elusive in our busy lives.

spring break success

  • 5 of 5

We had a truly wonderful 5 day vacation here. Everyone had their own room to sleep in and lots of private space for my college aged son and his friend who came on the train from Minneapolis. We picked them up in Tomah, just 45 minutes from the cabin. We cross country skied from the cabin on 10 inches of fresh snow. A REALLY nice kitchen. Every aspect of the cabin was as described in the website. Beds very comfortable. The cabin was well stocked with board games and books and I loved that there was no TV! Leah was incredibly helpful will all of my questions before and during our stay. We will go back again for spring break and bring more friends next time!

The log home was beautiful!

  • 4 of 5

Our time at the Home Away (Buckhorn Cabin) was pleasant and peaceful.. The evergreen trees all around were lovely.. We did some kayaking on Buckhorn lake and the kids enjoyed the beaches in the area. They loved Lake Wazee's clear water and nice beaches for building sand castles.

We enjoyed eating at Stones Throw dinner club.

We were celebrating our 50th anniversary and it was a great time to be together as a family.

Home Away was well supplied with everything we needed.

Clean, comfortable, very well-equipped cabin is perfect for family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We spent our family (11 adults, 2 babies) vacation at Buckhorn Lake Cabin. We found it to be very clean, comfortable and very well-equipped for our family. The kitchen was especially well-equipped and enabled us to make and eat all of our meals together. The area is lovely. We especially enjoyed swimming at Wazee Lake.

Leah was very easy to work with. We did not miss tv or electronics and spent a lot of time talking, playing games and making memories together. Loved it!

Relaxing, beautiful, cherished time

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful cabin in a very quiet location. At first having 7 kids I was concerned there would not be enough to do, but Leah put my mind at ease. She was always quick to answer questions. We had more than enough room and having no tv or Internet was a big bonus. We read, played games, did day trips everyday, and enjoyed many many ping pong games in the basement. Firepit was lovely, target outside our boys shot at with their bb/air soft guns, bikes, basketball, and so much more. Kitchen had all I needed. We did not use the water access across the street, but it really is not necessary there are so many lakes and bodies of water to play on. We went hiking, tubing down the black river, to Lake Wazee, then rented jet ski on another lake, spent a day at the awesome community center in Black River Falls, and went to and indoor outdoor waterpark with an awesome skating park that the boys could scooter on, and lastly enjoyed horseback riding . Nothing was more than a half hour away. You can't beat the beauty, price, location, serenity, and peacefulness of this home . Oh and we may have had a few nerf wars so forgive me if you find darts 10 years from now. (Our kids ranged from 7-14).

Beautiful area to visit

  • 3 of 5

Cabin was beautiful inside and out. We'll stocked in all rooms. Had ping pong table in basement and game in loft. Well supplied with games, books, magazines and information book on area with things to do.

The water smelled as Leah described - rotten eggs, but that was totally out of her control. Water pressure to fill tub was really slow.

We went canoeing on flowage (which was full and flowing) was great for taking kids on and also wahzee lake. Fishing was great on the lake - lots of trout. Swimming was super good there, sandy beach - no weeds or rocks to step on. Only complaint with beach was the biting flies. No way could you sun on beach - son said same with fishing - files biting there too

Kids fished flowage and had fun. They even caught a snapping turtle along with some other fish. Didnt swim flowage.

We had a party of 11 - 8 adults and 3 kids. Sleeping that many was a problem for adults. The loft, which was beautiful, had problems with quality of beds. They were made for kids not adults and they were very uncomfortable. The 2 queen beds were very pleasant to sleep on. In basement was a bunk bed, single on top with double on bottom, the bottom bed was a futon & very uncomfortable, not made for adults to sleep on. There was a futon in living room which the kids slept on.

Firepit area was great, except for fact that it was lined by other properties. When looking at picture of house you get impression of being in the woods but it is really located in a residential area. You heard other neighbors outside and saw another firepit going.

The property was pretty well clean but we were picking up fireworks and sparkler stems in grass area by porch and path on back to firepit. We didn't want to he blamed for it.

Leah had great communication with us. Let us know lots about cabin and where things were located in it. We callef her before we went up was that was very helpful. One other problem Leah should be aware of is that the canoe and kayak locks are reversed from what is on paper. I don't know if anyone reversed it back or not.

Other than that we had a great time there but would not come back with a large group of people.

Owner's Response: Glad you all had a great time. In response to your complaint, we put memory foam on the beds that we thought could use it. We actually love that that there is no homes directly behind, in front and to the side of our property and that trees surround our cabin. We do have one neighbor with a log cabin to the right of us with forest in between our cabins. And their is another cabin across the street next to the the public access road. I agree, we do not live on a 100 acres completely surrounded by nature, and there are a few homes in our community, but there is gorgeous nature around too.

Notes:
We have an extra deep jetted tub large enough for 2 adults. I'm not sure if that is considered a jacuzzi or whirlpool. We also have a stroller, and portable high chair and games and adult and children books galore. There are a few steps to get into the cabin. We have purposefully kept the cabin a no electronic zone to provide an opportunity for both adults and children to have a unique experience. We leave it up to guests if they want to bring anything electronic. There is a portable ipod/CD /tape/radio player and clock radio with a CD player. The cabin is a great place to sing, especially from the loft balcony where you can really belt it out. Musical instruments are great to bring too. We have a keyboard.
