About Sally Englund
We love to travel, snorkel, and dive. We like having our own boat, but now only have a smaller one in Canada. Our son lives in Victoria, Canada, and was the BC light heavyweight amateur boxing champion and competed on Team Canada in England. He was also the Golden Gloves champion for Western Canada. He has just retired from boxing and is in his 4th year of university as a Fitness Trainer and Athletic Therapist. Our daughter lives in San Francisco and works for Adobe Software company. Dave and I have 35 years of teaching experience and have also run a group home and taken in therapeutic foster children. We are looking forward to what retirement will bring, but will still be working part time. Currently I have become a Therapeutic Horse Riding Instructor and volunteer working with handicapped children and adults on horses. THH KONA. Now that we are half retired, we spend 51/2 months in Canada north of Victoria and 61/2 months working in Hawaii. Sally is a substitute teacher and Dave drives school bus for his high school where he taught.
Sally Englund purchased this House in 1988
Why Sally Englund chose Opihihale
This is our home for most of the year. It is out in the country and quiet. Also not far from Kailua Kona and near the best snorkeling and Scuba beach. We vacationed here for almost 10 years and then moved over full time 15 years ago. Now that we are retired we plan to be at our place in Canada for 5 months or more. In 1987 , after spending a year on a teacher exchange in Australia, in the tropics, we decided we wanted to move full time to Hawaii, to the Kona Coast, and a nice realtor helped us find this place.
What makes this House unique
We really enjoy the pool and hot tub, and the nearby beaches. We love the house and copied plans from a friend who had a Frank Lloyd Wright house in Honolulu. Our driveway goes past another house which is right on the road, It's about 250 feet long and paved. We have solar lights to light your way at night. The driveway has a circle at the bottom to make it easy to turn around.

50th Class Reunion Not to be Forgotten
Three childhood friends since 1961, along with their spouses, gathered at this beautiful place to have our own 50 year high school reunion. It has been the most perfect place for our time together. The location of the house is perfect. The beauty of the setting is spectacular. The house is a perfect size to be comfortable, and the bedrooms all look out to the beautiful pool and patio area, with the stunning view in the distance. The good sized kitchen is fully furnished with everything you could possibly need. We cooked lots of meals and had everything we needed to make them ono delicious. This place is magical. It is difficult to put into words how much we enjoyed staying here, and how much this place will always mean to us as we remember our time together.
Mahalo Sally and Dave!
We really enjoyed corresponding with Tom- he and his partner stopped by to see the place in advance as they live on the Hilo side. He said Frank Lloyd Wright is his hero. They brought their dog and asked for the vacuum because the dog likes to be vacuumed. We thank him for his great review.
Great for families with kids.. little ones will need floaties for the pool. 25 minutes to Kona
I liked the layout of the house with all the bedrooms with sliding doors to the pool area. Had 4 of my grandkids and they were in the pool alot of the time, kept them and me happy. We ate all our meals out on the covered patio. The bed's were comfortable, the nights good. I would suggest this property to family and friends.
Thank you Celeste for your great review- it was fun communicating with this guest. Aloha

Wonderful house ,open and very spacious!! Cute lil geckos all around, a Beautiful landscaped yard of all sorts of Flowers& Fruit!! The Lanai w lights was so nice and having the Pool right outside all rooms, convenient easy access!! The Pool was the"Highlight"of the house!! There is also the Hot Tub that sits on deck with Amazing View!! It's an awesome 3 acre spread that looks above the Captain Cook coast line, very pretty beaches just a short drive down or up Coast!! Kona is only 20 miles away, short drive, but recommend car rental!! I would definitely stay here again. Although we came during the Volcano activity.. The view was a lil Haze/Vog but all in all a Great place&the Owners Sally was very accommodating to my concerns& Happiness!! I'm so Thankful to have spent my 40th here. The location is not far from Green Sand Beach& Kona Magic Sands(my faves,Tortoises too)Also plenty of Amazing coffee businesses along the road to try..

Thanks Mariah for the great review- really glad you liked it and had a happy 40th.
It was a real pleasure corresponding with Mariah - she was so positive and enthusiastic. Hope to have her back again. And she left the place nice and clean. Aloha, Sally
We loved it
Beautiful, peaceful, charming, rustic loved our stay there. Enjoyed gathering Macadama nuts and using the special nut cracker to open them. The pool and hot tub were wonderful. The mosquitoes were a bit of a problem when you sit outside in the evening.
We would be happy to stay there again.
This was our second stay, the home has some signs of sloppy guests (e.g. carpet stains) but the location and amenities are very hard to surpass. We loved being able to look at the stars before sunrise from the hot tub, relaxing by the poolside in the sun during the daytime and grilling (or dining out) in the evening. Sally is extremely responsive in replying to any query and always gets back in a timely fashion for resolving any issues. We particularly enjoyed watching the goats grazing the bushes below the house on the lava rocks, listening to the birds after sunset and waking up to the cool air in the mornings. For those who don't want to be with the other tourists, don't need A/C, and enjoy solitude we highly recommend. The only two negatives for us were: the sunburn risk kept us from being poolside as much as we wished and leaving, of course.
Mahalo Sally for opening up your home, we will always consider your place first on future trips to Kona.
We were really happy to welcome back these guests because they were so relaxed and willing to handle things themselves without complaint. We hope they come back again. And they love the place as we do.
