Overview

About the property

Luxurious 3 bedroom country house with views over estuary.

Only 20 minutes from Galway City, Weir Haven is a picturesque thatched country house set on 2 acres of beautifully landscaped cottage gardens. The calm and beautiful interiors are furnished with top class furnishings, selected antiques, designer fabrics and objects d’art.

This truly is a perfect base from which to explore the world-renowned Cliffs of Moher, the picturesque village of Kinvara, Aillwee Caves, the Burren and the Burren Perfumery, the Aran Islands, beautiful Westport, Connemara National Park, Bunratty Castle & Folk Park, Coole Park and Thoor Ballylee - home of WB Yeats.

It is also only five minutes from Moran's Oyster Bar, one of the most famous lobster and oyster bars in Ireland.

Weir Haven provides 5-star luxury, self-catering accommodation for up to eight people. The house comprises extra spacious drawing room (30x15ft), large dining room (25x15ft), bright, spacious sun-room (30x15ft) with double-height windows. Kathleen, the owner, loves to cook and entertain and previously ran it as a very successful luxury bed and breakfast so you will find an exceptionally well equipped kitchen (20X15 ft) with handcrafted units, granite worktops, 4 oven Aga cooker, a large island unit suitable for casual dining and a well stocked pantry. Upstairs there are four luxurious, extra-spacious bedrooms which are individually styled each with private en-suite bathroom, king-size bed, settee, easy chairs and flat-screen TV. Stunning river and garden views from all rooms and Italian Marble flooring throughout the ground floor.

There are several terraces for al-fresco dining and relaxing outdoors offering views of the Weir Estuary, Kilcolgan Castle and Moran's Oyster Cottage.

A Welcome Pack of fresh fruit, fresh orange juice, home-baked bread, milk and other essentials is provided for guests on arrival. Daily housekeeping is also included.

Weir Haven is built on land steeped in history at Tyrone Avenue. The area formed part of St. George’s Estate dating back to the 17th century and the ruins of Tyrone House - a neo-classical cut stone mansion - is only 1 mile away, as is St. Sourney’s Church and Well - a religious site dating from the 6th century.

Lovely and unforgettable!

  • 5 of 5

We had the great pleasure of being Kathleen's guests last October and our four day stay was the highlight of our two week trip to Ireland. The property, first of all, is immaculate and prettier than any pictures could do justice. No one could have been a more gracious host - from the amazing accomodations, the best homemade food, the Irish musicians she had come and play especially for us and the very convenient location. The property is situated within a very easy 15 - 20 minute drive into Galway to the North and a ten minute drive to Kinvarra (for music) and the Burren to the South. This is an excellent choice for couples wanting a romantic and elegant vacation.

As pretty as a postcard

  • 5 of 5

I had booked this as a house rental for a five day stay. When we arrived the house looked as pretty as a postcard. Kathleen, the owner, met us and showed us round the property. She had left freshly baked scones and bread for us and we were made to feel most welcome. The inside of the house is a delight, it is a real feast for the eyes! There is lots of space. The kitchen is amazing, it has a four oven AGA which keeps it lovely and warm; if you enjoy cooking this will be the very place for you. The views from all the windows are breathtaking. The area is very quiet and peaceful, yet it is only a short drive to Galway city. By the way; the beds are really comfortable. Kathleen is very houseproud and the place is really clean. There is a lovely garden around the property which is very private and secure. There are two excellent restaurant bars about a mile away, Paddy Burke's and Morans. This house is ideal if you want something very special.
