I love this VRBO program. It is exciting to me to meet new people and all of my guests, for the most part, are really nice and responsible people.I am willing to work out extenuating circumstances and unusual group needs. For example, if you have a large group, or odd dates that do not fit in the usual format.
Very recently I have been able to find someone who is willing to clean up after guests leave. She charges $125.00. Please let me know ASAP so that I can get you on her schedule. She is even willing to work weekends and Sundays.
If you go tubing down the Apple River, be sure that you wear life jackets and shoes or water socks. Remember, it is a real and wild river. Do not mistake it for a waterpark Lazy River. We really had a lot of fun on their outdoor water slides. If all you want to do is slide and mini golf, then the ticket is only about $8.00 or so. Combined with River tubing, will run you closer to under $15.
It does happen that when I get a reunion type group, they ask me to arrive before they leave so that they can have have me take a group photo of everybody in their group at the same time in front of the water and trees. Can look very professional that way. There is also a waterfall for taking special photos in front of Willow River.
'Outside the tree house the bright, busy sounds of day had given way to the soft, soothing sounds of night-the quiet conversation of frogs and toads, the soft cry of the owl, the sigh of the night wind. And if you listened very hard, you could almost hear the softest sounds of all-the sound of lightning bugs switching their lights on and off, on and off. Stan and Jan Berenstain
GET OUT INTO NATURE!
When we are sick, a view of nature can help us heal faster. When we are distracted, a view of nature can help us regain our focus. And when we are stressed, images of a natural landscape can slow our heart rates, relax our muscles, and help us feel calm again. Get outside today-or even just look out the window-to feel happier. *Plan a play date at a nearby nature center or park. Let the kids discover what lives under rocks, logs or what lives up in the trees. Build a fort. No equipment necessary. *Spend the weekend on a family hike at a park you haven't yet visited. Block out time now and you'll fell better later. *Sunshine is a well known antidote to depression and time outdoors can be successful in reducing anxiety, impulsivity and hyperactivity.
'Ah, said Papa, painting beautiful word pictures, 'to wake with the rising sun and catch our breakfast from a crystal clear lake!'
'To bathe in its sparkling water!'
'To snack on delicious wild berries as we tramp the mountain trails!' 'To gaze at the beauty of a lakeside sunset!' 'Then, to sleep through the peace and quiet of the solitude and privacy far from the noise of traffic and neighbors' barking dogs!'
It all sounded great to the cubs. 'What kind of fish will we catch, Papa?' asked Brother. Walleye and Bass, no doubt, the St.Croix County DNR keeps the lake stocked with plenty of Walleye and Bass, he answered with supreme confidence. 'After all', exclaimed Papa, Bass Lake Is the cleanest lake in all of St. Croix County' Stan and Jan Berenstain 1989;

About Lisa Nelson
Our family spent many wonderful summers 'at the lake'. We feel it is a disappearing and nearly lost treasured memory that we have, and now wish other children to have that kind of experience to pass on to future generations as well. Our lakes are being depleted of fishing possibilities and fewer and fewer present a pleasant swimming. There is a limit to how many visitors at any one time (in addition to registered occupants). People other than those in the guest party may not stay overnight in the property. Swim and use boats, toys, floats, non-motorized motorcraft at your own risk. Guest assumes liability of any harm, accidents injuries, or illness that occurs that may result from use of said property for themselves or anyone that they invite to use the property with them. Guest must assume risk of any harm and responsibility for actions that their guests may do to themselves and damage to property. Guests must keep the property and its furnishings in good order. Use appliances only for their intended purposes.
Why Lisa Nelson chose St. Joseph
To eliminate any confusion, I am posting the cleaning list here. Please take care going up the driveway not to create dibits. Everything should be wiped clean, being careful to remove crumbs smudges and spills. Run the vacuum over the all that floors and carpets. Make sure that the hose is tightly attached to the base of the vacuum. Shake the throw rugs outside away from the house and then just leave them on the picnic table. Unless other arrangements have been made, you are responsible for removing all of your own waste. Owners car is very small and cannot fit it all in. Cleaning products are supplied , and can be found over the washer and dryer, and under the kitchen sink. Kids and dogs tend to smudge up the glass doors and coffee table. Please take care to clean up after them. You do not have to do anything with the beds and bedding. I am responsible for stripping, laundering in hot, and remaking the beds. Wash and fold the towels that you used. Polish spots off of the bathroom mirror. Clean sink, tub, and there is a toilet brush and bowl cleaner. Please wipe down with a solution of dish soap or stronger- Inside of the refridgerator, and microwave dining table, and countertops. Spills on fronts of cabinets and appliances, if there are any. Coffee maker, if used. Stove top and oven, taking care not to scratch away the black glazing on the stove top. Put all dishes away clean. Mop floors where necessary to get up all the dirt. Especially by the entrance. Any questions please ask!

Best winter get way Ever!!!!
I loved this place. Me and my girlfriend couldn't have had a better time. The owner was so nice and the cabin was amazing. Great amenities and close to alot of attractions. Altho we stayed in the whole time because it was so comfy and coze there was no real reason to leave. Ill have to say it was sad to go tho after spending the weekend in such a relaxing environment. And to think it was the middle of winter! I can only imagine this place when the weather is nice. Either way its the perfect place to be if your snowed in. We will defiantly be back. Rain, sleet or shine. I suggest everyone take a week or weekend and refresh yourself. This place is just wonderful.
Just a note - any one concerned about safety traveling to the Mid-West to vacation, our lake house has poured concrete with re-bar re-enforcement construction and an insulation rating of 32.
The master bedroom walk-in closet is entirely underground and you will be able to take comfort in that. Don't be afraid to compare to our competition. You being a photographer, I wish I could get you to share some of the beautiful pictures that you took here. You must have talent because it shows in them. For anybody thinking about a winter's stay, we believe the winter here is the most beautiful time of the year. The pine boughs heavy with snow weighing them down. The lot is situated between two bluffs overlooking the lakeshore and it sets us down closer to the water. Thus we may not have the birds eye view of the lake, but we get to feel sheltered from the wind and since there are so many trees, they act as a wind break for each other keeping the snow from blowing off. As pure as the driven snow... As they say. And now with the reforestation of the portion of the lot that used to be underwater, more pine trees are growing in than I care to have because most are non-native. This area is supposed to be covered and our forests full of the white pins variety, which I feel to be the most beautiful. Sort of lacy and airy, but when they grow to be very old and tall, they become majestic as an oak. And speaking of oaks, the lot is canopied supplied by red and white old growth oaks. We have had two so far get so old and mature, they finally toppled over. The tree service chopped them up to be used for firewood in the fire pit. Our guest reported hearing one of them and said it was amazing to see the tree on the ground, and to know that was what it was that they just heard. This was a good year for our lakes in the mid-west. While states out west like Nevada, California, Colorado, Arizona, are suffering droughts, water shortages and rationing, we here in Minnesota and Wisconsin are enjoying a replenishing of our water deprived years. Many area lakes saw water levels plummet and to dangerously low water levels. We could feel a future of what was 10,000 lakes reduced to only the very largest lakes of the state remaining. This would be a horrible outcome of global warming. Much of our culture is based on and affected by the culture of "lakers". Those of us who live here know that lakes call us to rest and relax the best! I am happy you were. THANK YOU!!
Rare find near the Twin Cities
This property is so unique in being a lakefront property so close to the Twin Cities. The owner is very responsive and met us there to show us around. The house is spacious with plenty of room for a large family. The beds are as comfortable as described. The kitchen is very well-equipped (knives are actually sharp!) and everything works well. The lakefront is rustic but we loved it. There are boats, kayaks, paddle board and a canoe, as well as a swimming float and plenty of seating for those who did not want to go in the water. The lake is clean and not busy. Our teenagers LOVED the swing as well. I actually did not find the cleaning list to be any problem and would rather do the cleaning myself, especially as the owner is so accommodating about checkout time. I wish I could give 4.5 stars! There is truly nothing to compare to this property that I have found in years of traveling to the area. I would give 5 stars except for 2 things: the cabin is a work in progress, totally livable but some tiling and cabinetry not quite finished, and the mosquitos. On a sunny day they are not a problem but on rainy days or in the evening they are plentiful.
Thank you Holly. I am sorry you got some rain. I always feel bad when my guests do not have ideal weather because when the weather is nice it is absolutely stunning. I think it is the tall red and white oaks that give it a feeling of majesty and rare beauty. You just do not get to see old growth woods so close to the cities. Unfortunately, mosquitos are something everybody has to contend with when they are vacationing lakeside for part of the summer. My guests are allowed to spray, and it really works! You were great and I wish you will come back. PS the cabinets have been completed since this review posted.
Great for a quick get away from the Twin Cities
Most of our group came over from the Twin Cities area, this cabin is located about 45-60 minutes away. Cabin comfortably fits 10 to sleep, is perfect to a larger groups of people looking to spend time by a lake. Kitchen is nice and open and easy to prepare large group meals. The beach is nice and very pleasant to swim in or just hang out on the dock. The kayaks, paddle boards, and canoes where nice to use on the lake and there are life jackets in the shed. We are planning on returning next year.
Pro Tip: You should bring your own toilet paper and paper towels if you have a large group. Some toilet paper/paper towels is provided, but we were glad we brought some roll of our own.
-Oliphant Brewing is only about 8 miles away if you are looking for local craft beer, they are also attached to a liquor store if you are looking spirits
Also buy firewood in town, there is no fire wood on site.
Also the Cleaning List: this has been a topic on many of the reviews, it is long, but if you have a few people in your party you can get it down in about an hour or two. I think if the cleaning list was gone and people just cleaned up after themselves and un-made the bed it would probably be better, the problem is that I am sure some people do not clean up after themselves and would leave the place very messy.
Thank you Hilari. The cleaning list was made actually at the suggestion and requests of my guests. They were interested in doing the cleaning themselves and not have to pay a cleaning fee, but they were at a loss as to how to go about it. All I am asking is that people clean up after themselves. And with the larger groups things can get very dirty. I do the beds. Strip them. Launder the sheets on hot and remake them. This saves a lot of time for my guests. It is impossible to get cleaners in there to work weekends. That is why I ask that people Put the place back to the condition it was in when they arrived.
This lake house soo beautiful ! My friends really enjoyed the view from the living area and the boats. Everyone had a wonderful time and Lisa was so helpful with everything. Definitely will be returning .
Great for a group of girls
A group of girls got together here to celebrate my sister's upcoming wedding. It was perfect for a group, with tons of sleeping space, a grill and outdoor tables for dinner, and so many kayaks, canoes and other activities for the lake. Lisa was extremely kind and flexible, allowing a dog on the property as well as accommodating check in and checkout times that were convenient for my flight. The highlight for me was watching the sun set next to the fire pit lakeside. The tree swing was amazing as well! Guests should be prepared for a long cleaning list and to take their trash out with them. I would definitely return.
Thank you. (I have shortened the list).
Wonderful week at the lake!
This lake house has everything! Large windows overlooking the lake, privacy from other cabins on the lake, more boats than you'd know what to do with, a large great room for family gatherings, enough comfortable beds to sleep an army, and the one thing that kept my four year old busy for hours at a time... a large swing that is hung from a tree 30' feet up in it! We literally had to pry him off of it when it was time to leave :) Lisa was amazing. Called back immediately whenever I had a question, was very gracious by allowing our dog to come, and was just an overall great host!
Thank you for the complement.
