About Lisa Nelson
Our family spent many wonderful summers 'at the lake'. We feel it is a disappearing and nearly lost treasured memory that we have, and now wish other children to have that kind of experience to pass on to future generations as well. Our lakes are being depleted of fishing possibilities and fewer and fewer present a pleasant swimming. There is a limit to how many visitors at any one time (in addition to registered occupants). People other than those in the guest party may not stay overnight in the property. Swim and use boats, toys, floats, non-motorized motorcraft at your own risk. Guest assumes liability of any harm, accidents injuries, or illness that occurs that may result from use of said property for themselves or anyone that they invite to use the property with them. Guest must assume risk of any harm and responsibility for actions that their guests may do to themselves and damage to property. Guests must keep the property and its furnishings in good order. Use appliances only for their intended purposes.
Why Lisa Nelson chose New Richmond
I have found someone who is willing to come out after you are done with the place and clean up after you. She only charges $125 and you can decide at the last minute if you don’t want to do the cleaning after all. To eliminate any confusion, I am posting the cleaning list here. Please take care going up the driveway not to create dibits. Everything should be wiped clean, being careful to remove crumbs smudges and spills. Run the vacuum over the all that floors and carpets. Make sure that the hose is tightly attached to the base of the vacuum. Shake the throw rugs outside away from the house and then just leave them on the picnic table. Unless other arrangements have been made, you are responsible for removing all of your own waste. Owners car is very small and cannot fit it all in. Cleaning products are supplied , and can be found over the washer and dryer, and under the kitchen sink. Kids and dogs tend to smudge up the glass doors and coffee table. Please take care to clean up after them. You do not have to do anything with the beds and bedding. I am responsible for stripping, laundering in hot, and remaking the beds. Wash and fold the towels that you used. Polish spots off of the bathroom mirror. Clean sink, tub, and there is a toilet brush and bowl cleaner. Please wipe down with a solution of dish soap or stronger- Inside of the refridgerator, and microwave dining table, and countertops. Spills on fronts of cabinets and appliances, if there are any. Coffee maker, if used. Stove top and oven, taking care not to scratch away the black glazing on the stove top. Put all dishes away clean. Mop floors where necessary to get up all the dirt. Especially by the entrance. Any questions please ask!

The expectation is that guests will leave the property as they found it. I have a cleaner that will do it for $125 even on Sunday. Let me know ASAP.
If you do not want to do the cleaning yourself please let me know so that I can schedule the cleaner for you.
100% refund if cancelled at least 60 days before arrival date.
We stayed here because it was 8 minutes away from where my daughter got married. Very peaceful, plenty of room, even got to use the water toys! Extremly private location. Lisa was very accomadating in letting us check in early as we had rehearsal dinner that night. Totally reccomend her lake home!
Kelly’s family was a joy to have. Left the place in really nice condition. I thank her for the nice review.
Very quiet and great scenery.
My stay was very nice. Relaxing. Had great weather. Plenty of room for a lot of people if needed. It was just myself so I had more room than I needed. Plenty to do outside on and around the water. Mosquitoes weren't bad yet but the ticks we're out in full force! I think I got them all. Could see a ton of fish from right on the pier. Turtles and muskrats playing as well. I will definitely try to come back. Lisa was very helpful with directions and had great communication while leading up to the arrival date. Even waited for me to show up. Was almost 2 hours late. The worst drive I've ever experienced in a downpoar. I appreciate everything. Thank you!
Nice weekend cabin getaway
This property worked great for our group of 8, the fireplace was nice at night and the views of the lake with the big window were great. We didn't realize we needed to bring our own TP and hand soap, but besides that we had everything at the cabin. We stayed for 2 nights and it was rainy/cold for the weekend so didn't get to enjoy a ton of the lake - but in the summer time this would be a nice place to stay.
I always feel bad when the weather isn’t ideal, and guests do not get to make the most of the lake. I do list what to bring in the listing. I also go over what to bring and how to get there verbally with guests just to be sure there is no confusion.
Quick cabin weekend
We spent a long weekend at the cabin and had a good time. There were plenty of water toys to keep everyone entertained and the house was comfortable.
If you are expecting a luxury cabin this isn’t it. If you are looking for a place to sleep, fix meals, and relax this is it.
If we are back in the area we would rent again.
This isn’t a luxury cabin except for the value of being so close to the cities, peace and quiet, privacy, wildlife, clean water, and opportunities to have fun!
Pros and Cons
Our trip included myself, my husband, our two dogs and an almost one year old boy.
-Beautiful lake setting
-Dock outside/ easy access to fishing
-secluded private area with minimal sounds
-working and updated appliances on site
-homeowner reccommended a local pizza delivery place that delivered out by the property and tasted great!
-fully equipped kitchen and utensils as well as bath towels and cleaning supplies
-(#1) no locks on doors!
-(#2)no air conditioning! And smells musky inside unit.
-(con #3) no screens on any windows or doors
-(#4) Lots (I mean LOTS) of rugs on the property - inside and outside. Rugs were not clean and made space feel dirtier and more cluttered than it actually was. Outdoor carpets were moldy.
-property owner disclosed to us upon arrival that the unit had no locks, no air, and had mice and spiders that frequented the home. Wish this had all been disclosed prior to arrival
-bugs in unit! Spiders, lots of ants, centipedes, Beatles, mosquitos, etc. We know this comes with a waterfront, wooded location but just be prepared...
-no fire extinguisher, fire alarm, or carbon monoxide detector in unit that we could locate.
Overall it's a beautiful property and we'd probably go back as a couple or in a group of friends. For us it was not ideal for the family that we have during the summer months. The property owner was very easy to communicate with and quick to respond to any messages. We can tell she is putting hard work into the property and the updates she's made are beautiful. (Loved the ceiling fan in living room, the big bay window, the kitchen cabinets, and the two fireplaces)
I take my work at the lake seriously. The house has four sliding glass doors. Two in the great space, and one in each bedroom. They are very expensive triple pane low e that were imported by Loewen Windows of Canada. Every one of them has a lock. She must not have seen them under the handles. Of the 67 reviews of my house posted, and seven years being on VRBO, NOBODY has ever encountered “bugs in unit,” SIMPLY NOT TRUE! I did mention that if the cabin sits vacant mice and spiders get in, so I keep it rented. And I don’t have a problem with that. They did have two dogs, I don’t know if that had anything to do with their problem. I know for a fact that she did not encounter any mosquitos because it wasn’t the mosquito time of year yet. If any of these things were true they could have asked for a refund or a discount. I honestly don’t know what she is talking about. There are three smoke alarms, 2 fire extinguishers and a CO detector all in working condition, and located in very normal usual spots so I don’t know why she said there was none. It is as though they are not even talking about my house! Their claim makes me sound like an irresponsible owner. There is a window A/C which is all this house needs because it is engineered with twelve inch thick walls and a 36 insulation rating, so it stays nice and cool. She does not say that it was uncomfortable in the house. Nobody else has ever said anything about the house smelling “musky”. I frequently have the house deep cleaned. If there is an odor, she tackles it. The window where the A/C unit goes was missing its screen because it didn’t get put back on the last time the A/C was put away. There were screens on three of the four sliding glass doors. The glass door that is the main entrance doesn’t have a screen because kids and dogs ruined them. There are mats outside to keep grass from growing on the path to the beach. Upon leaving, Mark texted me, ”Thanks again for the experience. We love the bay window, the boat dock was a hit with both dogs plus we all were able to go out on the boat at anytime. We are quiet people so not being around or hearing others was by far the best.” I went the extra mile and arranged things so that they could arrive early and stay late. I welcomed their emotional support dog free of charge. I never got a call from them with their issues. Instead they posted in this public forum. It would have given me a chance to make things right, and be the responsible thing for them to do.
Rare find near the Twin Cities
This property is so unique in being a lakefront property so close to the Twin Cities. The owner is very responsive and met us there to show us around. The house is spacious with plenty of room for a large family. The beds are as comfortable as described. The kitchen is very well-equipped (knives are actually sharp!) and everything works well. The lakefront is rustic but we loved it. There are boats, kayaks, paddle board and a canoe, as well as a swimming float and plenty of seating for those who did not want to go in the water. The lake is clean and not busy. Our teenagers LOVED the swing as well. I actually did not find the cleaning list to be any problem and would rather do the cleaning myself, especially as the owner is so accommodating about checkout time. I wish I could give 4.5 stars! There is truly nothing to compare to this property that I have found in years of traveling to the area. I would give 5 stars except for 2 things: the cabin is a work in progress, totally livable but some tiling and cabinetry not quite finished, and the mosquitos. On a sunny day they are not a problem but on rainy days or in the evening they are plentiful.
Thank you Holly! I am sorry you got some rain. I always feel bad when my guests do not have ideal weather because when the weather is nice it is absolutely stunning. I think it is the tall red and white oaks that give it a feeling of majesty and rare beauty. You just do not get to see old growth woods so close to the cities. Unfortunately, mosquitos are something everybody has to contend with when they are vacationing lakeside for part of the summer. My guests are allowed to spray, and it really works! You were great and I wish you will come back. PS the cabinets have been completed since this review posted.
