About Catherine MacIntyre/Bob Caldwell
We are both music educators that now live close by on the mainland and love to spend as much time as we can at our place on the island. Bob grew up in Victoria and met Catherine while they were both studying music at the University of Victoria.
Catherine MacIntyre/Bob Caldwell purchased this House in 2002
Why Catherine MacIntyre/Bob Caldwell chose Victoria
This property has been in our family since 1967. In 2001 we decided to replace the original 400 square foot cottage and build a new home which we have shared with extended family and created many wonderful memories. Since then we have also been renting it as a vacation home that hopefully enables others to have their own memorable vacation. One of the things we've found while renting our home is that people who visit our property want to return and repeat the experience. We are excited to be able to offer our place to guests wanting a unique vacation home close to nature, but also close to Victoria, Sidney, and Brentwood Bay.
What makes this House unique
Saanich Inlet, which is also called Finlayson Arm, is a body of protected water similar to a Fjord. You won't often hear the crashing of waves, but rather the lapping of water as you fall off to sleep. However it is the ocean and storms do come up occasionally which gives you another unique experience of ocean front living. Our place is located in a small, quiet community known as Willis Point. You feel like you are away from it all yet you are a short 30 minutes away from Downtown Victoria. You are also 15 minutes away from Butchart Gardens and the village of Brentwood Bay which has kayak and boat rentals. There are wonderful wineries, restaurants and gardens nearby, plus the added bonus of being on Saanich Peninsula where there are fresh and organic food stands and stalls throughout the area during the growing season. You are also 10 minutes away from the Red Barn Market which has local produce, meats and a deli. This place, that our family has always called 'the Cottage' , has been a wonderful summer and winter location to share family gatherings. While the adults are visiting on the main level or outside patio, the kids can be up in the loft playing video games , air hockey etc. Visitors also enjoy the water - swimming, snorkelling and beachcombing. Every evening we have 'Sunset Ceremony' where we toast the sun as it sets behind the Malahat hills across the inlet. The cottage is a great place to retreat and reconnect with nature where you will likely see eagles, herons, seals, otters, and deer. A walk down the road will lead you to Gowlland Tod Provincial Park with hiking trails, waterfalls and beaches to enjoy.

The hosts were the most friendly of any hosts we have had before. Everything in the house was labeled, she communicated with us frequently about everything we needed, and was very friendly. The house was clean and spacious with amazing views. We loved walking down to the beach to see the rocks and star fish. My only feedback as a suggestion not a complaint would be to reinforce the railing on the stairs to the beach because I was afraid of going down with my 5 year olds.
The photos do not do the property justice .It is sublime .It is in a fantastic location ,so quiet and peaceful , but we saw deers in the garden on the first day ....how amazing is that? The home is divine and the best my family have stayed in .Fabulous
Amazing cottage on the water!
Property is a perfect getaway on the water. Wonderful views. The hosts made sure our family stay was perfect.
The property was lovely!!
The view was incredibly from every window.
We had a slight issue at the start of the stay but the Property Manager was very quick to address the issue and we were really impressed with their speed and willingness to address.
The drive to the property was a little complicated but the destination made up for it!
I would recommend this property to anyone who would like to relax and enjoy beautiful views of the bay and relax.
Unbelievable views of Saanich Inlet. Very well kept home and convenient to downtown Victoria and Butchart Gardens. Also other activities such as kayaking to Seal Island. Owners were great to work with. Would definitely consider this property again for our next trip.
Did not want to leave!
This house is simply amazing, if you want to get away from it all, and enjoy the beauty of Vancouver Island this home is for you.
We visited for 4 beautiful days in July, 3 adults, 3 kids, enough room for a few more and everyone was more than comfortable.
When I am back on this side of the country, I will be looking to stay at this home.
