Doug Jones purchased this Villa in 2001
Why Doug Jones chose Tortola
We spent many years on sailing vacations traveling in the islands. Then we started mixing our time half sailing and half in vacation rentals. When our favorite vacation rental was no longer available we started looking for a place where we could enjoy longer winter stays. It took only one sunset at High Point Villa to end our search.
What makes this Villa unique
One of the best things about High Point Villa is just that. We are at the top of the hill and enjoy total privacy (except on Thursdays, when the gardener and housekeeper are here, pool people Friday afternoon). No cars and trucks driving on nearby roads, just the sounds of the breezes and the birds. We enjoy watching the variety of boats moving up and down the Sir Francis Drake Channel.

On top of the world
Open air living with views that cannot be topped. No need to go out to dinner when you have the best dining space one could imagine (on a enormous deck overlooking the ocean, islands and sun setting) and a great kitchen with all the necessities and more. I also appreciated the solid, well built home, deck, pool and furniture. As for the road way up, it's what one has to expect in the Virgin Islands. Though steep at times, with several switch backs, it's solid concrete the entire way - we rented a Jeep Wrangler that can be shifted into 4 wheel low, that made going up and down a breeze. I have photos of sunsets and my family that I'll forever cherish, thanks for sharing your beautiful property.
Pictures don't do this property justice!
We spent a heavenly week at High Point Villa. To say the views are "awesome" is an understatement. The property came with everything as advertised, and the lack of a dishwasher wasn't really a hardship. The kitchen appliances were excellent, and there was even a coffee grinder, which really came in handy when I bought whole beans instead of ground. The property managers greeted us upon our arrival, and were both knowledgeable and friendly. They procured a few provisions for us prior to our arrival, which was extremely helpful (eggs, bread, milk, etc.), and made a chicken dinner with lobster bisque for our first night. Next time, we'll be sure to communicate that there are only two of us, as that would cut down on the quantity, and the price, of the dinner. A really nice touch in the villa was the labels on all of the wall switches, which made turning on the correct light or fan a snap. The WIFI was great, but we never did turn on the TV - sitting on the porch in the morning with a cup of coffee, or in the evening with a glass of wine, and enjoying the views, made TV a non-issue. It was a great escape from the rest of the world for a wonderful week.
I almost don’t want to tell others what a jewel this is! It might make it harder for me to reserve next time. :). Top of a mountain, incredible view. House is splendid. Lots of nice furniture, open design, the stars at night shine so brightly. You can’t go wrong here. No dishwasher, but otherwise fully appointed with appliances and the kitchen was as well stocked as anywhere I’ve stayed.
High Point is truly one of the highest points on this lovely island. The views are amazing and the property was exactly what we were hoping for. We paid the very small fee to have our fabulous "greeter" Donna began our vacation by filling our refrigerator with some basics to start us out and this is very much worth it. Donna also offers meals created and served in the Villa at a price that is most definitely comparable to the better restaurants, so no need to leave the spectacular sunset! Her menu is extensive - we would recommend the Bronzini and/or the ribs - delish. Perfecto! Doug was very quick to respond to our needs and seemed to have a genuine concern that we enjoy our experience. The con - the drive up and down the "hill". It is not for the feign of heart.
This property is even more impressive in person, the views are incredible in all directions! The crazy driveway is worth it, but make sure you have 4WD! The location is convenient to local restaurants and the West End ferry dock. We enjoyed relaxing while hanging out at the house, watching the boats in the channel and at the neighboring islands. Location is very private and you will feel like you are on top of the world! Overall I would highly recommend this property, we hope to return again in the future.
Good morning Jackie
Thanks for staying at our home. Our neighbors all drive AWD vehicles. Jerry's Car Rental knows our home best and he always takes great care of our guests. You are always welcome back to our home.
Doug and Linda
This was our first trip to the BVI. Between this stunning property, the amazingly kind nature of the BVI community, and Doug’s thoughtful professionalism in providing every detail, the 2-week stay marks a memorable new “high point” in our travels.
Traveling to the island: all needed details were meticulously laid out in an email before our arrival. Also there is a folder inside the house, full of neatly handwritten details and Tortola dining suggestions. On day 1 we were running later than anticipated, but Jerry’s rental (book ahead) had car waiting when we came off the Road Town Ferry, and Doug & Donna graciously waited at the villa to welcome us, having brought the food & beverage groceries we pre-ordered, and gave us a tour of the property. Their affability made us feel at home right away, and patiently answered our touristy questions via email/text throughout the stay.
The property: two big bedrooms with their own deck on opposite sides of the house. Plenty of living room and kitchen space. And the overlook views are as transcendent as described in other reviews and even more In person. If you don’t feel like you have ascended into some kind of home in the sky on the drive up (the incline something you’ll get used to after one or two times), you will feel it during your first sunset or night swim as the clouds roll past, seemingly within arm’s reach.
Tortola: Won’t recommend must-see places to go, of which their are plenty, and Doug’s team of welcomers will offer suggestions, but will say we were overwhelmed with the overall kindness and feeling of community throughout the island.
We hope to come back to this incredible villa someday, and highly recommend for all types of travelers & group sizes. Thanks to Doug for welcoming us, and for making our stay so memorable.
