Chateau / Country House, 4 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 2.25 Baths, (Sleeps 8 adults )
About John Ryan
We rebuilt the house from top to bottom over the last 10 year using local natural resources. We have enjoyed these past 10 years of weekend, summer and winter breaks from the city. They have been some of the best times of our lives.
John Ryan purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2000
Why John Ryan chose Clinton Corners
This location was only 90 minutes from New York City and 1 mile off the Taconic Parkway. The country setting was totally relaxing but there is endless things to do and places to go all within a short distance driving that you could never find in the city.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Sitting back and watching the renowned Dutchess County Sunset on a summers evening. Or walking around the neighborhood as a family with our dog, meeting our neighbors along the way. Getting to know not only our neighbors but the regulars in the local village that have lived there for years but are still welcoming to newcomers. It is always the best place to have a family party, and not only do we enjoy it but our family and friends look forward to their chance to drive up and spend the weekend there, either relaxing or celebrating.

Horrible hospitality, horrible stay
Arrived on 2/7/20 (Friday) freezing outside to a house set at 55 degrees at 10 PM. The hosts did not either understand the concept of a warm home to greet paying guests or did not want to have to pay for preheating the place.
Then, we raised to heat, but NO HEAT. In fact NO HEAT OR HOT WATER until Saturday at 3 PM. Our party of five slept in our coats and ski pants over night. I texted the owner at 11 PM at night and was told to go down to the boiler room to try to fix the situation, which I declined, I told him to send a professional.
The next morning, two men came at 9:30 AM to fix the heating and stayed until 11:30, wandering around the bedrooms- one of us being ill, it was a horrendous experience. They told us the boiler valves were rotted, that the filters were clogged, and they changed and fixed the situation.
The owner then sent a text saying "I will make amends." I am not sure what the amends were that he was planning to make.
For one thing, he had provided large, uncut logs which smoked and died in the fireplace, and we could get no heat from them. When told this, there was no response from him.
Finally, when the hot water came on, we looked for and found NO TOWELS. The owner, finally, hours later, told us towels were in basement.
We couldn't wait to leave and left first thing Sunday morning at 9AM.
I cannot believe people this inhospitable operate on VRBO. I have rented here since 2707 and this is my first such experience. And the first time I have written such a review.
I am sure that I can get my money back from complaining to VRBO or to AMEX, as heat and hot water are basic amenities, but honestly, I wish them luck with their ill-gotten gains. What goes around must come around.
I had been to my house just 2 days before, the heating system had been serviced on jan 24th 2020,. I called the guest at 6pm on the evening of the stay to if she had any questions and told her where she could find the key. I gave direction on how to use the thermostat, advised the radient heat worked separately ,asked if she would go to the lower floor and turn on the heat fan , refused, when the guest needed towels ,excess towels are in the laundry room as stated in my contract, I since have installed remote thermostats so the heat can be on
We had a wonderful time staying here for New Years. John was very responsive, the house was warm and cozy, the kitchen had all that you could need. There's a supermarket about a 20min drive from the house, so if you don't feel like leaving you should stop on the way.
The location is pretty great. It's not totally secluded, but there's more than enough privacy.
The two fireplaces are in great working condition and well maintained. Overall, it was wonderful and would stay here again. Especially in the summer when the pool is open.
You should stay here!
This time of the year is beautiful around Stanfordville ,in the evening time to sit around an open fire with ample wood is so relaxing.
Spring and summer everything transforms as the trees creates a canopy over the property.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The home was adorable, clean and cozy for me and my family. There isn’t much of a town to explore, but we took day trips to Rhinebeck and Hudson and had a great time in both lovely towns. Overall a great experience and I would love to come back some day.
Earlier in the year there is a lot going on around there with the farms, wineries, pine plains and millbrook are 2 other nearby towns ,
Plenty of supplies at the house to make our stay feel like home. The house is right off the parkway but far enough back in the woods to not know you are near the road. Heated floor in vestibule was amazing after coming in from the cold. One day we just stayed inside by the fire and relaxed. The owner called us on our way down to the house to give a brief check in review which was nice. Often times you never hear from the owner. We had a great time and appreciate the owner letting us stay in his home this Thanksgiving.
I am glad you enjoyed your stay at our home, its so comfortable with a fire on in the wintertime
Charming country house in a great location
Just came back from our second stay at John's house and would definitely return for a third summer. We are a family of 4 - I have twin 7 year olds - and the house was the perfect size for us. It is comfortable, the kitchen was stocked with the utensils and tools necessary for lots of cooking. The house was very clean, cozy and is conveniently located to lots of activities and attractions (note: everything is at least a 15 minute drive which is normal for upstate, but there is no actual town). The pool is a great addition and something not easy to find upstate, although it does take a long time to heat up. John was a great host and very responsive to any and all questions.
we try to keep updating our home,
The property was much smaller than what the pictures depicted. The interior of the cottage was clean for the most part. There were many items provided for daily necessities such as shampoo/conditioner, body wash, laundry detergent, toilet paper etc. The dishes and utensils were very old and stained. We bought disposable items because we didn’t want to risk using something that may not have been washed properly. The exterior of the property needs some upkeep. Lots of junk scattered around the entire yard. Old rusty tools, nails, kids toys, wood etc. Dirty windows, pool has damage to the lining, outdated pool furniture. We actually went to the local hardware store to purchase our own lawn furniture that we can lay on. The pool has a heating element but only worked on and off. The listing states there is are speakers outdoors for music but we could not get that to work. There is no information inside the home describing how to use any of the amenities at all. The only information provided is the WiFi password and there are some pamphlets on the local area. For the price we will not return. We feel this property is way over priced for what was offered.
In the country we have our oen well, the well water give has a larger percentage of lime, this will in time appear to stain cutlery and glassware. we need to replace the ware often . the pool heater runs with the water pump so when the pump stops running after 8 or 10 hours so will the the heater, the heater is intended to heat the pool to approx 80 degrees as is typical of all pools, the pool furniture is a is wooden and as directed cusions are in the closet, also 2 lounge chairs,
If you are a larger group it is prudent to bring additional daily necessities based on your use. Our landscaper comes bi weekly to take care of the lawn and property and takes great pride in his work,
inside our home you will find the wifi info posted through the house,we look forward to to you really enjoy your visit and we are always available to assist as we live close by
