About Charles Prince
Howdy All! My name is Charles Prince. I was born and raised in Oregon and learned from an early age to appreciate the beautiful gifts in my backyard--the Mckenzie and Willamette River's. Back in those days our parents cut us loose in the morning and expected us to wear ourselves out by evening. Living between the Mckenzie and Willamette afforded me wonderful opportunities to hone my independent streak and fishing skills. I was a fishing and rafting outfitter on the river for 12 years before I decided to pursue a different path in life... I have four children (three boys and a girl) who have been raised around the river. Many of the finest days of our lives have been spent at our Vida home. We feel truly blessed to have such a quiet, pastoral setting to share with our friends. Our dog's Gerta and Barchen say it is awesome too :) Good dogs are welcome, but there are no fences, so please keep them close. We hope you will enjoy our home as much as we do... Cheers! Why Charles Prince chose Vida
Our home is unique in that it has approximately 400' river and creek frontage, plus over an acre of grass to run, jump, fish, play or just relax. As you will see when you arrive--our hearts are in it :)
What makes this House unique
From the moment you turn in the paved drive, the Mckenzie begins to work her magic on you. Before you even begin to unpack the car, walk down the sidewalk past the covered entry and gaze at the river... then you will understand what makes our location and home so unique. Take in the incredibly large yard well off the highway which makes for an exceptionally quiet and peaceful location for getting away with family and friends. There is outstanding fishing right on the property. Our home is located at the mouth of Gate Creek, one of the largest tributaries of the river. With over 400 feet of river and creek frontage, there is plenty of room to soak your toes and wet a line. The Rainbow and Steelhead congregate at the mouth of the creek which can lead to amazing days! Flyfishing is especially good from June through July and again in September/October for Rainbows and Steelhead looking to fatten up on Caddis, Mayflies and other treats. The property is also an excellent raft takeout. Come experience the magic of the Mckenzie for yourself--but beware, it is an addictive experience :)

Group fun on the river
Great setup for our group of 3 UO families. we we’re concerned the location was far from campus, but it was an easy drive and gave us a chance to see beautiful Oregon! Plenty of open space to hang together we’ll-stocked kitchen allowed group dinners and lots of fantastic outdoors.
That is wonderful Annette. We have had many groups attending sporting events stay.
Fantastic spot for family vacation
This is a beautiful location! The set up of the property is perfect for our multi-generational annual family vacation. It fit the 12 of us perfectly. We’ve rented this property twice, and greatly enjoyed it both times.
I love hearing this LaVena.
Fantastic for family retreats
The Roberts family really enjoyed the River House again this year!!! Playing in the creek, fishing in one of the best holes on the McKenzie, and the time to catch up in a great outdoor setting. We have made this an annual event and it gets better and better each year.
Thank you Dana!
Your family is a joy to host year after year!
I love hearing the stories of your grandkids adventures at the house.
I look forward to hosting you is 2020!
With fond regards,
Perfect for our family
Our three generation family had plenty of room to have a really good time together. Spacious great room and large enough kitchen for several to work in it. Good separation of sleeping quarters. Fun to have the river with shallow enough water for wading. Grandpa taught 16-year-old granddaughter to fish and she caught 2 trout making the trip memorable for her and for all of us. The property was large enough for croquet and yard games with so much to do there we left the property only to hike into Proxy Falls. A great family retreat!
A wonderful escape on the river!
Had a great time hanging out on the river. The house is a little rustic, but comfortable, large, and wonderful!
Lovely Gathering Spot on the River
We loved our long weekend! The house was so well appointed for our group of 12. Views of the river, gathering spaces for a large group and every cooking/serving item you might wish for.
We also loved the area. We discovered great hikes, did a raft trip on the river, and just hung out at the home.
Only two drawbacks. The smaller bed in the apartment...ouch. Noisy and hard. This is ready for an upgrade. Also, the doorways to the master bath was too narrow for our friends' wheelchair...otherwise the accessability was great.
Overall, we had a really great stay and would love to come again.
The Mckenzie River has several natural hot springs to soak away your stress.
Belknap Springs is a developed spring 30 minutes East on Hwy 126. With two pools and river view, it is a gorgeous setting.
Terwilliger Springs 'Cougar Hot Springs' are more rustic springs managed by the Forest Service located approximately 30 minutes S.E. above Cougar Reservoir on Aufderheide Scenic Dr. The springs are situated a short 1/3 mile off the paved road in an old growth forest. Truly a gorgeous setting!
The Mckenzie River Trail offers a great hiking or mountain biking adventure just 15 minutes upstream.
