About the property

Villa, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Looking for a sunny getaway that is only an hour and fifteen minutes from Portland, yet feels like it is miles away in Tuscany instead of on the Columbia River?

We have your perfect getaway just five miles from downtown Hood River in the hills of the sleepy town of Mosier.

Imagine sipping a lemonade or glass of wine on a large deck overlooking vineyards and orchards at sunset or star gazing at the spectacular night sky!

Enjoy your Hood River vacation in this custom, energy efficient 3,000 square foot home (naturally cool in the summer and warm in the winter). The heated floors, solid wood doors, stone countertops in the gourmet kitchen, wood fireplace, marble showers, venetian plaster and hand-painted armoires will make you feel like you're in an Italian villa with all of the modern conveniences like WiFi and big screen TV in the media room.

Everything is here to make your Columbia Gorge Vacation a retreat you'll want to come back to often!

This Columbia Gorge vacation home is situated on 10 acres with views of our own small Sangiovese vineyard as well as surrounding vineyards, flower farm, and cherry orchards. You can soak up the views with the floor to ceiling windows in the great room, outside from the large deck or under the big oak tree on the back patio as you grill on the barbecue.

There is a seasonal creek that flows through the property and brings a variety of wildlife - elk, deer, bunnies, wild turkeys, to name a few!

For the hiker, there are miles of trails surrounding the home. For the wine lover, there are many wineries in the area to visit and taste. For the nature lover, there are many beautiful vistas to feast your eyes.

Whether you spend a week or just a weekend, you're sure to go home relaxed and revived!

Eco-friendly and special:

The focus in building this home was to provide a very private getaway that is energy efficient and uses as many natural and recycled materials as possible. The walls are actually made of recycled Styrofoam and cement formed into very large concrete blocks (Rastra Block) – this gives the house super insulation (R Factor 50 versus the normal 25).

Many materials came from Mosier – the ceiling in the great room is reclaimed lumber from the original farm house that was part of a large cherry orchard that encompassed our 10 acres and 100 acres of the surrounding farms and land parcels. The brick on the steps was part of an old church in town.

While the kitchen cabinets don’t look recycled (they are custom made Rutt cabinets) - they were bought on Ebay and repainted. The front door is from the Philippines and is made from recycled railroad ties. The armoires in the bedrooms and the powder room are from Thailand – made from recycled wood and iron gates. The coffee table is an old wagon wheel.

The water is well water coming from our own well 600 feet below ground – nice and fresh after the volcanic rocks filter it!

This was our second stay at this amazing property. We were there over the 4th of July weekend and decided to bring family members back in October. The house is beyond comfortable. The kitchen and dining area were great for a family dinner. We loved having a grill to cook out on.. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. The house is off the beaten path, but close enough to Hood River so it is an easy drive into the restaurants. One of our favorite things to do is head out the front door for a great morning hike. We will definitely plan another get away to the bautiful villa.

Perfect family get away!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed everything about this home. It was tucked away on a beautiful piece of property with amazing views yet not so far away from it all that it was an easy drive into Hood River for dinner. There were 6 people In our group and there was more then enough space for us to spread out. The kitchen is beautiful with everything you need to cook a meal. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms well equipped with plenty of towels. So many fun things to do in the area...wine tasting, hiking, fruit picking and beer tasting to name a few. This is a unique property that I would highly recommend and definitely rent again.

Delightful getaway

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 4 stayed in the Tuscan villa for three nights during our trip to the Columbia River gorge. Overall, the experience was very positive and we would not hesitate to return to the property for another stay. On the positive side: The location is gorgeous. It is isolated, quiet, out of sight of other houses. It overlooks a beautiful little valley lined with vineyards and orchards and is very picturesque, with a view of Mt. Adams in the distance. The house is lovely and nicely decorated, with plenty of space and all the amenities you need. It is close to Mosier (which is a little village with limited resources: no gas station, limited dining and shopping, etc.), but within a reasonably short drive to Hood River, which has all the resources you might need, include numerous nice restaurants, shops, etc. Being in the country, there were lots of small creatures around the house (ground squirrels, lizards, harmless snakes, birds) for our kids to watch and explore. The beds and showers are comfortable and the kitchen adequately supplied for most needs. On the negative side: no air conditioning. I expect that it is rarely needed in this location, but on two of the days we stayed the temperatures got up into the 90s and even with open windows and pulling down the shades, it was often near midnight before the house cooled off to a comfortable sleeping temperature. Not all of the windows in the house have shades and it is hard to keep the sun out if you want/need to. Also, the window screens are very cheap and one actually fell out during high wind and we had to replace it (not a big problem). The only other issue was cleanliness. While the house is generally clean, there were lots of cob-webs and dust bunnies blowing around. Overall, we would highly recommend the house. I expect it is one of the best -- if not the best -- alternative for people staying in this location. If you're looking to relax within easy access to wineries, waterfalls, and other Columbia Gorge attractions, you could do a lot worse than the Tuscan Villa.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your detailed review. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at our wonderful home in Mosier. Dust bunnies and cob webs accumulate fast in the country but I will inform our house manager and make sure this gets addressed more thoroughly in the future. I have also noticed that the window screens are aging and will look at replacement options. Thank you again for staying at our home. We hope to welcome you back soon.

Excellent Stay!

  • 5 of 5

The views, the house, the furnishings, were all excellent! Saw many wildlife; deer, turkeys, hawks, fox, bear! We were there for a wedding in Hood River and was not too inconvenient to get back and forth to the property. The seclusion was a welcome retreat from all the stress of the wedding! Was a very memorable stay and look forward to visiting again!!

Tucked away in a wonderland

  • 5 of 5

We hosted a bachelor party here, using the house as a base for 3 straight days of river floats and two mountain biking trips.

The house was a cool oasis in roasty July wether in the upper 80's. Sitting on the deck we enjoyed one of the most beautiful sunsets we had ever seen (seriously, the clouds and the valley framed it in a way that made us feel like we were IN it, and we were not stoned!). The next night we got a crystal clear view of the Milky Way and an active meteor shower. Wow.

The only things I wish I had known ahead of time were how steep and gravely the driveway was (though we made it down and up even in our 2WD vehicles), and that part of clean up includes emptying the dishwasher. But these were minor things. We would definitely come back again to use this magical place as our launchpad for Hood River adventures.

Serene, Peaceful refuge

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a long weekend and had an excellent time. The house is beautifully situated just outside of Mosier and has great views and is totally serene and peaceful - you definitely feel like you've escaped from the city. The house was very comfortable for our in-laws, myself and my husband and our two small kids. The big main room is so comfortable and easy to cook, entertain or just sit and read while listening to the breeze. Very enjoyable and we would highly recommend it!
