I inherited this property and built Laughing Raven in 2000 from logs harvested from the Kenai Peninsula. I'm a neurology nurse practitioner and work in Anchorage but plan on retiring to Homer. In the meantime I'd like to share my home with individuals who wish to have an unforgettable Alaskan adventure.
Mo Hillstrand purchased this house in 2000
I built Laughing Raven on property that was an original Alaskan homestead. I spent my summers as a child playing on the Homer Spit. Laughing Raven is conveniently located 3 miles from the center of Homer on 20 private forested acres with spectacular views and very comfortable accommodations.
You can sit by the fire place and plan many out-doors activities Homer has to offer. You can also just relax on the decks or in the hot tub and just enjoy the scenic views and observe the wild life.
"Thank you for the opportunity to stay at your beautiful home these past few days. It was truely a relaxing time. We even had some 'special' visitors- a mama moose and her calf ! Thank you again. We hope to return sometime. Sincerely, Karen"
Very simple. Everything that the description promised was dead on. The only exception was that the kitchen was even MORE plentifully stocked than we would have expected, and the house was IMMACULATE. We've used VRBO several times before, always with very good results, but the Raven was without question the cleanest and most inviting place that we have stayed. It's the perfect blend of spacious and quaint, and the location could not be much better. Throwing in the resident bald eagles to greet us was an exceptional touch.
My only criticism…you have GOT to get Mother Moose and her baby to cross the driveway more slowly so that we can get better pictures next time. And there WILL be a next time, no question about that!
Absolutely perfect home and location. Slept 7 more than comfortably. Great quiet piece of land close enough to everything in Homer and the rivers to the North. All the amenities and supplies you could need. And the owner was very responsive, helpful, and gracious. Thank you, Mo!
We throughly enjoyed this lovely log home which has a full kitchen for cooking, beautiful living room with cosy fireplaces and comfortable furniture to relax in. The hot tub on the deck is well maintained, easy to use and great after a long day hiking. We took a couple of the light plastic deck chairs up to the knoll to enjoy sunset and the view. ( keep a lookout for the moose who also likes to stroll on the knoll). Dinner at Fat Olives in town was quite good. We would like to return with a family group and highly recommend it.
This cabin is really beautiful. It is very large and has everything you could need. The hot tub is great though only fits about 4 people. The cabin does not have a view of the bay, but a close spot in the yard has an excellent view of the bay and mountains. The property is really nice for taking walks. Kitchen had everything we needed for a weekend of cooking. The beds were comfortable. The radiant floor heating is great and the fireplaces make for cozy evenings. The deck is huge and grill nice.
Booked an extended family fishing vacation for my son's high school graduation. We enjoyed the space in the large house (two families), family area was great for playing games and hanging out in the kitchen. Kitchen/house was stocked with more than you would expect. Everyone loved the indoor/outdoor space and it was quick to get to all the fishing spots we went to. We would rent here again! Only thing I would ask for is chairs (fire pit?) up on the hill to sit and enjoy the view of water.
Extended family of seven stayed for a week in July 2014. Beautiful, spacious and clean accommodations with gorgeous views. We enjoyed fishing on the spit and cooking up the catch at the end of the day in the well stocked kitchen. The house had absolutely everything we needed for a great week. Even got to see a moose a couple times. Hope to retun again soon.
