About Larry Strout
We (Larry Strout and Penny Rodrique) acquired Bear Forest in June of 2009. Larry is a university professor and Penny is a retired robotics instructor at a middle school. We, and our daughter, Nicole, started visiting the Smokies in 1995 and returned frequently mainly to HIKE! We love hiking! We've been to the summit of Mount LeConte more times than you can count! Bear Forest is really a summer home and a Christmas/New Year's retreat (and soon to be summer retirement home) that we have now decided to share with you. There are two comments people make after staying at our cabin--'We could live there!' and 'We didn't want to leave!'

Why Larry Strout chose Gatlinburg
Perfect spot for our needs. Hiking, arts and crafts, downtown Gatlinburg, and the grocery store are all close (along with great hiking trails) and the cabin brings us peace and quiet.

Good Place to stay
Me and my family always enjoy going to the smoky mountain area. Makes it better when you have a great place to lay your head at night and eat your breakfast in the mornings. Will look into renting this place again for future trips.
We are so glad you were our guest. We look forward to having you stay again real soon.
Beautiful Cabin on the Mountain
This was a quaint beautiful cabin right in Gatlinburg, TN that had everything I was looking for.
Thank you for the kind words. You were the perfect guest...making a special effort to find out how to leave the cabin at checkout.
Could Be Better
Not as secluded or private as we had hoped. Also could use a good cleaning - mouse droppings in the silverware, large cobwebs in jacuzzi window, dust hanging from beams, musty smelling, etc. Upstairs toilet runs. Can opener doesn’t work. Crockpot dirty and smelled bad. Enjoyed time relaxing by the fire in the evening.
Thank you for reviewing your stay at our cabin. We apologize for the issues you experienced and any inconveniences they may have caused. As mentioned in our listing, we own the cabin and because we are not yet using it all the time (as we will in retirement), we are renting to share it with interested individuals and families. There is NO management company. It is NOT a business. Having said that, if we had been made aware of the problems immediately, we would have dispatched a handyman or I would have driven 7 1/2 hours myself to take care of them.
Cabin stay at its best!
The property is located very close to the shopping outlets and other attractions in Gatlinburg. The cabin was clean and spacious. Kids had lot of fun in the jacuzzi tub which is placed inside the cabin. The only negative is the parking spot which is very steep and not properly constructed.
So glad you enjoyed the cabin...including the inside jacuzzi tub!
It is a gravel driveway...I will add that to my listing so it will not be a surprise to anyone.
Again, thank you for being our guest.
Often times guests can watch bears ambling about around the cabin and neighborhood.
