Overview

About the property

Studio, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

The March 2004 full renovation was updated in December 2013. This 'chambre d'hotel' apartment on the Rue des Tournelles is just a three minute walk from the Place des Vosges, one of the most beautiful 17th century squares in all of Europe. We refer to this 230 square feet ground floor studio apartment as 'le petit bijou' or the 'little jewel'.

The apartment was featured on the Parisian TV magazine show 'Paris Premiere' in April 2004. The local TV Company engaged a well-known Parisian designer and produced the making of a luxury 'pied a terre'. From the demolition of the old, to the haute design of the new, it is an encapsulated history of our Parisian dreams realized.

The renovation is a work of art and features a restored limestone wall, stone tile floors, a very accommodating bathroom, pastel striped painted walls, and the very hip 'kitchoo' cuisine with stove, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher.

All the furnishings have been selected to accommodate your most comfortable visit to Paris. Everything here is comparable to a luxury hotel except at one/quarter of the cost. The 4 star Pavillon de la Reine Hotel three blocks away charges 500 euros/night for a 150 square foot room and it doesn't come with a kitchen.

The apartment, in a 19th century 'Regency' style building, sits along the quiet rue des Tournelles. In the 17th century, the Marais was home to the most aristocratic families of Paris and 400 years later, little has changed in the architectural feel of this old quarter.

The very narrow rue des Francs Bourgeoise is now filled with 'hip' boutiques, and 'trendy' restaurants and cafes share the buildings of the old Jewish Ghetto along rue des Rosiers, but some of the quieter street like rue des Tournelles look the same as they did over a hundred years ago.

It's a short walk to the Notre Dame or the Louvre, but the Marais is so intoxicating, you could easily spend a lot of your time just enjoying the Place des Vosges, Hotel Sully, Museé Picasso, Museé Carnavelet and carefree walks through the small winding streets.

Services included in the cost are phone calls anywhere in France and in the US, cable TV, English movie stations, free and unlimited wireless Internet, linens, towels. Our bilingual contact will be just a phone call away if you need any help during your stay.

In the apartment will also be our guide to the neighborhood, favorite restaurants, cafes, wine shops, bakeries, and markets.

About Joelle Dussuyer

I was born in France, Lyon and I have lived in San Francisco now for 37 years. David and I got married on July 15th 2016.. We feel very lucky to have two places in Paris, this wonderful studio and a beautiful one bedroom (VRBO 33626). It has been a pleasure hosting so many nice guests throughout the last few years. I am looking forward to having you too! :)

Joelle Dussuyer purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Joelle Dussuyer chose Paris

It is simply the most hip area of Paris, yet full of history, good restaurants and attractive shops. It's centrally located, walking distance to most of the main Paris museums and landmarks and easily accessible by metro. Simply the best area in town.

What makes this apartment unique

Designed for American tourists by a French native who has lived in the States for 36years. I had you in mind. The apartment is very quiet, very comfortable, clean and beautiful. The bed is extremely comfortable. I've had several renters tell me that it is the best bed they have ever slept in. Florence and Sol, my Paris contacts are the best!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Had a great time in Paris..even though it was windy, cold and wet.

Brigitte met us at the apartment and took care of all the little

details. She is absolutely a wonderful, friendly, helpful

person...you've got a great caretaker. Went through the "personal yellow guide"

and it was very helpful for day to day activities. Great idea! The apartment is

very, very cozy and comfortable. Host service...absolutely excellent :-)

Just wanted to say "thank you" to Gretchen and Jonathon for their hospitality.

Great Paris Apartment

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place. The apartment is quiet, cozy, in a great building and neighborhood. The studio had everything I needed. It was in a convenient location. Close to shops, restaurants and transportation which all are easy to walk to. I was by myself and felt perfectly safe. I had some questions and spoke with Joelle. She was very helpful. I would definitely stay there again and you should too.

Convenient location in a great part of Paris

  • 3 of 5

The apartment is small, with a comfortable bed, a good bathroom and very limited kitchen. Florence, our contact was helpful and came out of her way to assist with a couple of problems. One drawback to this apartment is that it is immediately adjacent to a noisy front door that services a number of other apartments in the building. This was the fourth apartment we have stayed in having been to Paris five times previously so I feel from experience my rating is fair.

Owner's Response: The door usually closes without noise but the mechanism was disturbed because of the heat wave. I am really sorry it inconvenienced this renter. We had never had this problem previously. Upon learning of the issue we tried everything in our power to solve it. We immediately informed the building management who has since repaired it. The building regulations in Paris preclude us from doing our own repair work otherwise we would have fixed it right away. I am happy that Florence was able to assist this renter in many other ways and they enjoyed their stay in Paris.

Terrific Paris pied a terre

  • 4 of 5

Great location! The apartment had everything I needed./wanted...very comfortable bed, terrific shower with excellent water pressure, stovetop and fridge. Free phone service in France and the U.S. and internet. I found everything I needed in the immediate neighborhood...bakery, bio market, restaurants. Several guidebooks, maps, and stuff to read!

The only downside was that the owner's representative did not leave the key for me as stipulated, so I was not able to get into the apartment at the appointed time. This was a major inconvenience. Not a good start, but the apartment itself is fantastic!

Owner's Response: We had a glitch with this arrival. Florence did get delayed. What made things more difficult was that the renter had lost her phone. Florence ingeniously found her in a cafe and paid for her lunch. I gave a nice discount for our mistake. Very happy she loved the apartment.

Great bedsit in a top location.

  • 5 of 5

This little bedsit had everything you'd want for a short stay in Paris. It's comfortable, the bed is fabulous, terrific shower and excellent wifi. There are probably 20 great bistros, restaurants and patisseries nearby and a small convenience store a few minutes walk away. We recommend Chez Janou for dinner (almost across the road) - but book or go early for a pastis while you're waiting, and up the dead end of the street is Fragments, the best little coffee shop for breakfast or just a stop. Thank you Joelle, you made our stay memorable and you couldn't have been more helpful.

nice small place in a great location

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The room was very well located, cozy, comfortable, and we were able to walk to most of the sites we wanted to see. There were great restaurants in the neighborhood. Coming and going was easy, and the personal guide materials send and also present in the room were terrific.
