About Lauri Gartner
After 16 years of living in various parts of the country we moved back to Michigan in 1989 with our 3 kids & settled in Traverse City where Lauri grew up. We wanted to be close to family and enjoy the slower pace of life in a small town and the beauty of northern Michigan, we really missed it.
Lauri Gartner purchased this House in 1999
Why Lauri Gartner chose Northport
We looked for property in Leelanau County because it's still pristine and undeveloped and 20 years later it's hardly changed. Jim's parents had a cottage on Lake Huron when he was growing up & he loved hearing the big waves at night, so he was happy to find this place with 300 feet of frontage on Lake Michigan.
What makes this House unique
Pictures don't do justice to our property---- the first time I saw the beach I couldn't believe how beautiful it was with rugged sweeping sand dunes and blue blue water, it was so natural and pristine, it really was spectacular. My husband found the property with a realtor & I wasn't really impressed by the pictures-- they didn't show it like it actually looks because it's hard to get good pictures with the dune in front of the house and woods in back. But when I saw the house I loved it, the setting is charming and unique. The whole property is just incredible. In person the house looks so much better than the exterior pictures show it. We've had friends from L.A. stay and both times they've said it looked totally different from the website and they couldn't believe how beautiful it was in person. Our house is so peaceful and relaxing, I love being out there and wish I could go out more often. I like the fact that our beach is usually deserted, rarely anyone even walking by, so we have privacy , not crowds. You can truly get away from all the busyness of life and just relax. When family & friends visit, everyone is obsessed with searching for petoskey stones and colorful rocks. I can spend hours everyday searching for beautiful stones & a friend lacquered his to show off their colors and put them in a bowl on his coffee table. I'm not much of a beach walker but others in the family walk everyday to Cathead Point, it's great exercise walking in the wet sand. Of course everyone loves the sunsets, they're incredible on Lake Michigan. But they're especially beautiful from our deck or fire pit because we're on the dune which is up a little higher. It really is a spectacular sight which I never tire of seeing over and over again. Lauri & Jim Gartner Traverse City
