This bright and sunny 3 bedroom brook-side country cottage with 2 bedroom guest house on 13 acres in the Monadnock region sleeps 6-12 comfortably. The house is simply but comfortably furnished with everything you need while away from home. In winter, hike, x-country ski, or snowmobile from the front door. In summer, listen to the babbling brook from the large screened-in wrap-around porches, private deck, or spacious yard, or swim in beautiful Lake Whittemore a short walk away. Nice property and clean house

  • 5 of 5

Six of us stayed at the house in August 2016 for the Hampshire 100 Mountain Bike Race - three adults (+ one dog) in the main house and three adults in the guest house. The main house was charming and comfortable. The guest house was spacious and the extra beds and bathrooms over there were especially nice to have - no one felt cramped. The kitchen was fairly well-stocked.

At the end of the road are some trails, and the house is also a short drive from the Pak Monadnock mountains and other trails - quite a convenient location for mountain bikers/trail runners/hikers. Also plenty of nice paved and dirt roads in the area for bike riding. We brought our dog and the quiet, dirt road was nice for walking her. We would stay here again.

Feels like home

  • 5 of 5

This house was amazing! Full of everything you might need (ketchup, laundry detergent, tape). Private area, close walk to the beach. We had our wedding in the area where there's hardly any places to rent and we were so glad to have found this! Family that were coming to the wedding from out of state were able to stay and we were able to spend time together. I would recommend to everyone! Especially for the price I couldn't have been happier finding this place!

Perfect summer getaway for friends!

  • 5 of 5

Ericka and Alfie's place is magnificent. We went up for the long 4th of July weekend and had a great time with our group of 7. The backyard is huge, perfect for frisbee. The screen porch was definitely my favorite part. We are able to stay "outside" chatting and relaxing well into the evening cool and bug-free! Inside was a bit cozy when we were all inside together prepping meals, etc. but we ate all our meals on the porch and had plenty of room to sprawl (there are 2 tables inside, we just preferred to be outdoors). Beds were comfortable and the house was very clean and well-stocked. The pond is about a 7 minute walk down the street and absolutely perfect. Sandy beach, clear water, swimming dock, perfection. I cannot say enough about this place. Looking forward to returning in the future, hopefully with a bigger group to make use of renting out the guest house as well!

Great Location for Skiing at Crotched Mountain

  • 5 of 5

We attended a Ski Championship at Crotched Mountain the first weekend in March. A group of racers, support staff (coach and race officials) and families spent the long weekend at the Brookside Cottage. The location was perfect, close to the ski area, yet in a New Hampshire town, not a resort. It was great to have a kitchen for breakfasts and dinners, with some of the others involved in the race joining our crew for dinner. Even though it was March, we were able to grill on the screened porch! We rented both the main and the guest houses and were quite comfortable. The main house feels like an old farm house and the guest house is more modern. Each has its own charm. When not skiing was nice to take walks or run through the woods near the house and enjoy New England forests. We would not hesitate to stay here again!

Perfect for a Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We chose this location as it was close to our son's camp, and we loved it.

The area is beautiful, the house was great, and the screened in porch was perfect for sitting and enjoying the sound of the brook while reading when the day was done.

It was 100°+ for the first couple of days we were there. There is one window a/c in the master bedroom on the first floor. We just kept the doors closed to the upstairs, and our son slept on the couch. It cooled the downstairs enough to be comfortable. We're also from FL, so this was not a big deal for us. May want to consider this if you need central air. The next few nights it was more than cool enough to keep the windows open.

Yes, a few things need to be updated, but everything worked just fine. We were barely in the house anyway, as we went traveling around. Crotched mountain is right down the road, as is a small beach (we really didn't want to go swimming though). I suggest you walk around the towns of Peterborough and Keene, and drive a little further south to visit Cathedral of the Pines. The twin mountains were close enough for a short day trip. Brattleboro, VT is also close by. There is cable and.WI-FI, which is great as cell service is spotty, even on our Verizon phones.

My cons, couldn't really find any. I am used to older houses, so the steep stairs didn't really surprise us, as that's just the way these old homes are. We did have a small issue first day, and the owner was quick to take care of it. We recommended this home to family and friends. We've also decided if our son goes back to camp next year, we'll gladly rent the home again. It was perfect for our four night stay.
