My wife Pam and I, own and manage the property. I am a Doctor of Pharmacy and owner of Wiley’s Pharmacy in Altamont, Tennessee. Pam owns Tin Roof, (a Primitives and Antique Gift Shop.) Located inside the pharmacy in Altamont, TN. I have lived in this area all my life with the exception of College years. My personal residence is on the lake as well, so I am available to answer with knowledge most of your questions about this beautiful area I call home.
I am involved with mission work here at home and in other countries including Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico, Africa, Europe, and Israel and enjoy exploring this great nation America every chance I get. I must add though even with my extensive travels there is no place like the simplistic beauty and peaceful living this area affords. It allows me the opportunity to enjoy my passion for fishing, hiking and golfing. Living in the midst of Tennessee State and National Parks is a blessing. Just Google the Cumberland Plateau to find out about this amazing area.
I have three grown children and two grandchildren. I raised exotic animals for years including Zebra’s, black face sheep, Z-donks, Llamas, goats, donkeys and white fallow deer.
I am a committed Christian and am very active in my church.
My goals are simple in this season of my life:
•Work Hard •Play More Often •Enjoy Life Daily.
Larry Wiley purchased this house in 2005
I chose this property so I could share my love for this area with others. Our lake house is one of the best kept secrets in the area. Having a private, fenced in, twenty three acre home on Big Creek Lake (73 acre lake) is a jewel. People that come up for a visit want to move here because of all the beauty, wildlife and just a relaxed environment to share with their family. Mountain living but with the option of fine dining, exploring the National Parks or flea market shopping. Going into the city of Chattanooga or Nashville for the day enjoying the local culture and museums is also an option. I believe this retreat is a getaway families will enjoy together through all the activities available, the modern amenities and just the ability to sit and listen to the music of nature whether it is the wind whispering through the trees or the geese letting you know they are about to land on the lake. The House at Lakeshore just keeps it simple in a very hectic world. Simple is good.
I believe one of the unique benefits of the lake house is the quiet. There is a peaceful calm and serenity here that’s priceless! Fresh air, rejuvenation and the enjoyment of nature are a few things that come to mind when I think of lakeside living. This is Mountain Life at its Finest!
Unlike any rental we have ever stayed at. We feel as if we were visitors in your home with the fresh cut flowers and great muffins. Thanks Pam. We came with the intentions of hiking and taking pictures of waterfalls in the area, after arriving @ The Beautiful House at Lakeshore we didn't need to go anywhere else. Pam, the house is so pretty with antique furniture and décor. We were comfortable no matter where we were especially on the most amazing deck. B
Larry and Pam's Lake House was the perfect get-away for our family Christmas/New Year's gathering. The home is impeccable , beautifully furnished, and met our every need. Knowing it was Christmas event, Pam kept the Christmas decorations in the house - such a nice touch! We had some cold days, but that didn't keep us from enjoying lake canoeing and hiking nearby, and of course, there were some fierce ping pong games downstairs - a great family gathering space. The country setting and animals were just the tonic for our city weary life! We prepared some masterful dinners in the well-stocked kitchen with two refrigerators (that was super handy), and we all slept well in the comfortable beds with quality linens. Did I mention the great lake view? Wow! Stunning! I can't say enough great things about our host. From our first contact, Larry and Pam were communicative and helpful - just good, good folks. I hope we can return again to this lake house jewel on the plateau.
We live in Florida and we met up with my other 2 sisters and their families from Wisconsin to this beautiful home for Thanksgiving. With 6 adults and 9 children, there was plenty of room for everyone. We arrived to see the donkeys and goats, which the kids fed every morning. The home was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed to make a Thanksgiving meal for our big family!! The property was beautiful!! The kids enjoyed the lake and the hammacks, but mostly the opportunity to play and run outside. We all had made great memories and will remember this vacation for years to come!!
What an amazing home & location.
Our 6-guy prayer retreat had as perfect an experience as we could imagine.
The hosts were responsive and warm.
The home was spotless ... spacious ... inviting.
The lake is so tranquil and quiet and peaceful - great for a calm kayak or canoe excursion.
Would give this property the highest recommendation.
We stayed at this beautiful property over a weekend. We have stayed at several vacation homes in past years and I can say this is the best property I have ever stayed. The owner, Larry and his wife Pam are very friendly, they received us at the property as we pulled over and showed us around. Pam had freshly baked blueberry muffins for us. They even had water bottle case in refrigerator for us to use, a small gesture but not many do that. My point is they are not your regular owner property owners who you’d probably never meet, they are very nice couple and go out of their way to make their guests experience memorable.
Property is on the Lakeshore, they make paddle boats, kayaks available for use. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor games available for both kids and adults. They have goats and donkeys for kids to pet and feed. There is so much to do there that we changed our plan to visit Chattanooga and rather stayed at the property through out our rental.
Everyone in our group had lots of fun here and we plan to come back in future. I highly recommend this rental if you plan to visit this part of the world.
I'm not sure I can summarize our trip in just a few words ... From the moment we turned into the driveway our mouths were open. The land, the house, the lake, the view are all utterly gorgeous! There were 10 adults and two children in our group. We arrived before the rest of our clan, and I loved showing each couple around the house and watching their faces as they took in every room and all the details ... and the deck with that amazing view! The furnishings and decorations are just perfect!
Our group was our four children and their spouses, plus two grandkids. The bottom level with the bedroom housing two queen-sized beds and its own private bathroom was perfect for the parents with the two granddaughters (ages 10 and 7). The game room is also on this level, and we put an air mattress in the office for my son and his wife to have a private room as well. The other couples arrived first and snagged the upstairs bedrooms (we got the master, of course). ;)
The bathrooms are beautifully updated with gorgeous tile and fixtures. The "car wash" shower in the master was awesome! The kitchen was perfect as we brought all of our food and drinks so we wouldn't have to leave the house! (Two refrigerators sure helped!)
We did do the short drive to Greeter Falls and hiked down to swim at the bottom of the falls. That was so much fun, even though the falls weren't gushing that day. There was still plenty of water to swim! However, we didn't stay long since we wanted to get back to the house!
Two of the guys spent many hours on the canoe jug fishing. Our granddaughters must have burned off 300,000 calories jumping off the dock into the lake and climbing back up the ladder. It was hard to keep them out of it! The garage full of floats was a pleasant surprise! Everybody enjoyed floating on the lake together. The paddle boat was so much fun, too! The girls had their little electric scooters with them and the driveway was perfect for that! The seven-year-old fell in love with the male donkey (and vice versa!) and didn't want to leave him. <3 We visited the momma and baby, too. One of my favorite spots was the rainbow hammock by the lake. So peaceful!! We loved hearing the geese fly over, sometimes "crash landing" into the lake. We played board games, foosball, ping pong and corn hole ... and enjoyed the fire pit on the last night.
It was the perfect place for our family getaway. Time to decompress and reconnect with each other. Thank you for an amazing trip!
My family and I had the pleasure of staying at the House at Lakeshore. Larry and Pam are such genuinely dear people. Their decorating has created such a peaceful place to retreat to, unplug and just rest from the insanity of a busy life.
I spent some much needed quality time cuddling up in a hammock, in the shade of the oak trees, with the love of my life... and our view of the lake from the hammock was nearly perfect.
I had a wonderful opportunity early one morning to sit on the dock and get a little fishing in. I am a terrible fisherman but that's beside the point.
The stillness of the water. The distant sound of a woodpecker hammering a tree. The hooting of an owl somewhere near by. The sight and sounds of the geese gliding over head. The occasional splash of a fish breaking the surface of the mirrorlike stillness of the lake... the way the early morning vapor seemed to glide across the top of the water as the sun rose up over the trees to light the day...
In a word... Peace.
If you have the opportunity, put this beautiful place on your vacation destination list.
Though you won't have to unplug from technology, please consider doing so and just enjoy being in this peaceful place.
Summer months we have a paddle boat available. Bring life jackets if you can't swim, or maybe your kayak or other water toys (no gas engines). Enjoy the 'Serenity' and fun that our lake has to offer. Swimming in the lake is permitted, however, NO DIVING from the dock. Bring fishing gear. Some great areas to visit locally: Buggy Top Cave Tours, Sewanee Natural Bridge, Fiery Gizzard Trail, Foster Falls, Greeter Falls, Savage Gulf, Great Stone Door National Park, Meadow Trail, Tracy Lake and Coke Ovens, Cumberland Caverns, Wonder Cave, Fall Creek Falls National Park, Ruby Falls...
